Golden Smog Vic Show - XRT Sunday Night Concert
LouieB replied to jdmel's topic in Someone Else's Song
I was about to say the same thing.....actually you could have fired a canon through the back of the the main floor or the back of the balcony and not hit a soul. LouieB -
Clearly for the money..... How did Robbie Robertson evoke the pain of the Civil War or the Arcadians, or southern whites or anyone else? He did what every brilliant songwriter does, he used his imagination. LouieB

I am so waiting for a used copy of Black Sheep Boy to cross my path. Sadly the time I saw them live they couldn't hold a candle to Wilco. (Hell they could barely hold a candle to Califone or Clem Snide, both of whom were on the same bill.) For those of us of a certain age, there will never be anyone like Jimi Hendrix. As I have said before, now there are many guitarists who can play like Jimi, but he was the original. Personally I am still mystified by anyone still grieving the loss of Jay Bennett. I still get nostalgic for him when I hear is riffs, but other than that Wilco has moved

I am guessing Rosie and I were the only VCers in attendance. LouieB

This is kind of harsh...I think the topic is - is there a better band today, as in contemporary bands. Just like the goofy thread on the Band, why compare Wilco to the dinosaur acts? Why not just enjoy Wilco for what it is - the best contemporary band there is. LouieB

It used to be a pretty good rail road, but I haven't been on it lately... LouieB

Glenn may or may not be GOD, but he sure is a nice guy.... The Elmhurst College thing was both a clinic for the percussion students and a show, with Glenn and the others sitting in with the group and doing some numbers alone and together. We missed Glenn's talk during the clinic since we thought it started at 8 and we got there at 7:30 and the clinic had been going since 7. But just for the record, Glenn played with the ensemble for a version of "I am Trying to Break Your Heart" that one of the student's arranged for the ensemble and he played on guitar. Glenn of course played drums.

Well yea....These are all groups from the 60s fer cryin out loud. Regarding the NGDB, according to their website, Jackson Browne was a member prior to them recording on Liberty. Also I totally degrooved copies of Uncle Charlie and his Dog Teddy as well as All The Good Times (United Artists), which are both great and prior to Will the Circle Be Unbroken #1. It appears nearly their entire catalogue including the Liberty albums are back in print. LouieB

Getting rid of the crackles when playing new Vinyl
LouieB replied to thebunk's topic in Someone Else's Song
I agree. I also have some cleaner stuff that does remove alot of the surface noise (and doesn't cost over $200), but frankly most of the time it doesn't matter. LouieB -
2 cow is really worth seeing. They are fun and energetic and you won't be disappointed. LouieB

I heard a feature on this guy Tim Fite on Sound Opinions (a show I generally can't stand) the other morning and this guy Tim Fite caught my ear. Now usually I am fairly uninterested in anything remotely to do with rap (and particularly white rappers), but this guy has some interesting stuff to say and this album is completely free for downloading (again not something I do). I gave it a listen and some of the material actually is not only pretty funny, but on target. Check out his download site... but definitely give the video a watch, since it kind of gives a pretty good idea of where h

UH yea..I am okay...not jumping on their bandwagon for even a minute, but the article gave me pause at least. I am clearly biased; as a long term New Yorker reader, if something appears in it, I am more likely to give it some credibility than if it is in Rolling Stone or something like Paste (which I don't read anyway.) In recent years the New Yorker has gotten way more"hip" and at least tries to give new music and such more credibilty than perhaps it is even due. Considering their critics can actually "write" and have something interesting to say about these guys, gives them more credibi

Didn't happen and I didn't try, so unless I run into someone who wants to take me, I am out in the cold. I have lots going on in the next few months (hell the next few nights.....Glenn, Jon Brion,Dolly Vadren, Jon Brion) so such is life. Really the tickets should go to the big fans, which AF seems to have alot of these days. You just can't see everyone sadly. I must be getting really soft in my old age, even thinking that Fall Out Boy isn't totally shit is proof of that (although I did discuss them once with Matt from the Smoking Popes with whom they are on good terms.) I guess I don't

No truer words were ever said. Waiting for Columbus IS one of the all time great live records; representative of how great a band Little Feat was, it sounds great and it has held up over time. In fact I just bought a cheap copy for a friend who is getting back into buying vinyl. No one should dis Little Feat for not being the Band. They were great in their own right and time, talented, great songwriting and rocked liked crazy (something the Band didn't really do....compare it if you must to Rock of Ages...). Comparing any two bands is sort of a fools game we all play, me included; its fun,
