Doing the rummage thing is fun for finding odd ball stuff, but if you are dying to find a particular album, most of the time you are out of luck. Go with low expectations and you will find something fun. Go looking for something you want or something of high value and you will probably be disappointed. Looking for stuff at garage sales and thrift stores is a kick. Did it for years and still do. But you can go decades and never find what you really want and spend tons of time and money looking. I am not saying don't keep looking, but because there is so much greater a market for used vinyl it is harder to find things now than it used to be. Actually you can just go on Discogs or GEMM or eBay if you don't care to wait. There are tons of copies of al these albums. While some are harder to find than others, it is not like Neil Young was/is an unknown artist who pressed up a few hundred or a thousand copies, There were tens maybe even hundreds of thousands of these albums, particularly On the Beach and Tonight's the Night that were sold. I hate to jump in here on this because like everyone else I have fairly mixed feelings about this, but this all just makes me wonder; don't police officers have any alternative than taking out a gun and shooting someone? What happened to mace, tazers, night sticks, etc. Is deadly force the only alternative when a problem ensues? LouieB

I see this kind of thing all the time that I want. Mosaic just came out with the complete Dial Records sessions which is 9 CDs including the Charlie Parker, which I have, but it seems like I need this so badly. So I need this VU too, but maybe not. Oh and AMF and the Basement Tapes and when I see some of the year end best of box sets in the papers, etc. etc. etc. LouieB

That's the one. This earlier one was the alt-rock version and Grievous Angel is the mainstream (Emmylou) version. The earlier one suffers from some rather low points, whereas the latter one is mostly excellent. I would imagine there are still used copies of the earlier one floating around. It's certainly worth having if only for the UT Blue Eyes. Edit - Yup, copies on Amazon for $2.33. LouieB

And cold...... There are countless things to do in Chicago and finding some low impact activities for times when Wilco is not playing is still possible. Have I plugged Constellation? They have a great variety of improvisational music in a laid back setting and real seats. LouieB

In terms of collating tracks for compilations, this is all good for folks who don't have them, but for those of us who bought them years ago, it is kind of redundant. The Gram Parsons Tribute album is a good one (although the Wilco cut is one of my least favorites.) However the other Gram Parsons tribute album has a killer Uncle Tupelo cut on it, but the rest of the album is lackluster. Now that I have actually ordered this thing I can begin to listen to it too, whenever it arrives. LouieB

I am aware that the LP has the files which would have to reside on my computer and sound way worse than the CDs played through my stereo. I am pretty sure that the LP version will be around for a bit and I will probably get that sooner or later (I just ordered the CDs for less than 30 bucks.) Kicking Television continued to be kicking around for sale for a couple years after it was released despite the scare that it would disappear. At the price for the LPs I am sure they will also be available for a bit. It is mostly those of us hanging around here that are interested in the LP version and

When I get around to it I think I am going to buy the CDs. I am sure they sound fine and have much more music on them. If the LP version hangs around long enough I may get that, but not sure I will ever listen to it enough to make the cost and lack of tracks worth it. LouieB

The Reader has an early warning section and the actual paper copy has ads for the clubs. The ads have the schedules for the coming month or so sometimes Listings for plays probably has the dates of the runs, but not sure. The listings for music are usually for the week that it is published only. If there are some clubs or plays that look good, go to the websites of those clubs or theaters and it will give all that information. I doubt there is any collated information for all clubs or theaters stretching out for a few months in advance. Only the clubs or theaters would list that kind of
