  1. Why doesn't Boehner bring the immigration reform law that passed the Senate to the House and then none of this would be an issue. Oh yea, right, it might actually pass. LouieB
  2. I agree with Paul (who I did not see because maybe he was on the main floor), but holding Tweedy to the end was disrespectful and only giving him one song when that other rock group got two for no discernible reason. LouieB
  3. Worst stage craft ever!!!!! This show was not billed as a film set, but as a concert. We were used as props for the film and funders for the eventual show. Disgraceful. Luckily most of the performances were pretty good. I say pretty good because there were some less than stellar performances a mix of artists that I could not figure out what they were doing there. They missed many opportunities to let the performers be on the stage at the same time (Emmylou and Buddy Miller) (Taj Mahal and Keb Mo) (Otis Clay and Aaron Neviile etc.) By the final encore of The Weight the place was half full
  4. Am I going to have to buy YHF for the third time? LouieB
  5. Actually I do have that and it would get me kicked off. If not for the profanity, then for breaking format. LouieB
  6. I am still curious about the residency thing? Why is that important? louieB
  7. Here we go again. I am back on WNUR.org this Sunday at 5:30 PM CT Got all kinds of cool stuff planned including some Dylan soul, white guys playing R&B, more Numero Group singles, crazy 45s, Stevie Wonder (he is in town tonight), some older blues, and who knows what else I can squeeze in my 90 minutes. Give me a listen if you can. 89/.3 FM in Chicago or WNUR.org on the net. It can be had through Tunein Radio too. LouieB
  8. Well that's different, I think. Not really sure now. Hmmm 2000. Let me think on that too. Mark Ribot, or did someone say him. LouieB
  9. So there is more material on the CD than the LP. Glad you guys are studying up on this. LouieB
  10. Why a residency? Isn't a regular gig good enough? Isn't Austin the greatest live music town on earth? So they say. LouieB
  11. All four of the trilogy are very good and a fast read. It is stopping me from continuing to plough through Proust. LouieB
  12. I'm old and these folks are all my old heros, but maybe it is time for them to have a serious re-evaluation of their careers. It's not like all of them can't stay home and play by themselves. They all are worth plenty of money. (I do have a ticket to see Stevie Wonder though.) A musical tribute to Paul McCartney sounds like a terrible idea all the way around, but that's just me. LouieB
  13. I guess I need to find one of these. Copies of Kicking Television remained on the market for a couple years so I am guessing that despite my slowness in ordering one there will be a few left. LouieB
  14. Well that's sad. Looks like Dylan is falling under the category of someone who is totally out of ideas and falling back on standards, unless that is a joke. What Sinatra always had going for him, until the end, was his ability to put across a song. I am not sure what Dylan is doing in this regards. The Christmas album is funny but really not good in any convincing sense. LouieB
  15. This is too complicated. Does the vinyl have all the notes and cuts as the CD? I assume it does. Not going to burn a CD but will download it for other uses. LouieB
  16. I am reading John Fante's "Bandini Quartet". Really terrific stuff. LouieB
  17. Miguel Zenon, Joe Lovano, Esperanza Spaulding, The list goes on and on. Once again I am not sure what you classify as "modern jazz". That's kind of an old expression. Contemporary? Mainstream? Avant? Experimental? lots of stuff going on out there. LouieB
  18. I have rarely missed a Chicago performance by Glenn. My first time seeing him solo was at OTS 12 years ago. LouieB
  19. Does the vinyl have the CDs included or a download? LouieB
  20. TWEEDY tried to play Chicago and was rained out during Taste of Chicago. I think since Spenser played on Mavis's album he should get some billing. louieB
  21. Fake Fur Coat is a good one. Summer Noon is an ear worm. LouieB
  22. We lived through George W Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Richard Nixon; we will live through this too. LouieB
  23. Haven't heard it and really don't care. Got a lukewarm review in the Trib today by Greg Kot. Seems like the stripped down version would be the better one. LouieB
  24. There seem to be plenty of tickets for Glenn on this Friday at the Old Town School. LouieB
