  1. Low Key because of the video. LouieB
  2. Dave Douglas is great. If you are asking about modern jazz or avant/experimental. Honestly check out some of the earlier threads. Lots of these folks have been discussed before. LouieB
  3. Oh sorry. Vijay Iyer.Craig Tabor, Rpbert Glasper, The Bad Plus, Let me think on this. LouieB
  4. Well two things. See my short article on my footer and then someone resurrect the jazz threads. There is entirely too much jazz during the LP era to try and figure out what you might like. But something I can say with complete certainty; there is a huge difference between jam bands and jazz. Don't even mention them in the same sentence. LouieB
  5. I guess we actually will. Not sure how early I can get in line though. LouieB
  6. My ability to do links is no longer working otherwise I would put up these sides in a heartbeat. Then again promoting 100 year old music is kind of silly even though this group worked the Uptown scene in the 20s. From that point of view it is interesting to me. LouieB
  7. I am looking forward to it to. I have tix to 3 of six (any other extras someone wants to throw my way I will be glad to get if I can make them. I am good for it.) I am doing the first and last Friday's and Monday. I am particularly looking forward to Monday because I figure that will be mellow and maybe different in tone. Because there are six shows people I want to see or hang out with are going to shows I am not. I think seeing all 6 will get a bit redundant, since while there are plenty of songs to choose from, even the five show residency proved to be redundant. LouieB
  8. Having attended the five night run a few years back, there was lots of overlap. LouieB
  9. There is an el train (blue line) directly from O'Hare to downtown. Depending on where your hotel is, you can easily take it and save the cab fare which will run you in excess of $20 bucks and more likely 30. The red line runs from downtown to within half a block of the Riv and is the best way to get there. Time is always iffy. The el runs regularly, but it is at least 45 minutes to downtown and half an hour back up to the Riv. Depending on where the hotel is you could make it in two or so hours, but that is cutting it close. Honestly if you are near the el line, save any cab fares and t
  10. Yup you will have to get a hot dog somewhere else. Lagunitas is off the beaten track, but Half Acre is pretty close to the Riv. (Not walking distance) I have not been to Lagunitas, but I am told it is quite something. I would think the Half Acre would fulfill your beer drinking needs. As always with the Riv I recommend a drink at the Green Mill which is just across the street. It's an historic bar and very colorful during the day. The Riv is in Uptown, a slowly gentrifying neighborhood. The Vietnamese business district is a couple blocks away and there are some fun taco places and ba
  11. Wow little response here. This is a sad one. Cream was one of my favorites as a youngster, as were some of his solo efforts. LouieB
  12. I am guessing you have never been to Chicago. See the thread on things to do in Chicago for some suggestions on the north side. You might try Airbnb for a room nearby. There are no hotels you would care to stay in in the adjacent neighborhood. But please read the thread for basic info on Chicago since you are a newbie. LouieB
  13. You should feel good that you have Tom Ze as your own little music ghetto. I was going to post up about the 1920's sides from Isham Jones with the Rainbo Club Orchestra (from Chicago), but I know that no one is interested in that. LouieB
  14. Its all Obama's fault. Every bit of it. He created it in a lab 40 years ago knowing he would be President. LouieB
  15. So the 4 LP is everything? Just checking. LouieB
  16. I read this at 5 AM. #78 - Reading a stupid article about Wilco at 5 AM. LouieB
  17. Jarrett was not cranky. He did joke at the beginning after an ovation from the audience "can I we go home now?" In fact he was very subdued. A good show with Jack DeJonnette and Gary Peacock. Good stuff. Seeing a show at Symphony Center is an interesting experience. An older crowd that is generally extremely polite. LouieB
  18. I saw Keith Jarrett last night. Not that anyone cares. LouieB
  19. If Stern (who I always enjoyed as entertainment when he was on regular radio) is the best interviewer now speaks to how unbelievably bad things are. He is smart guy and funny but not an actual journalist, But hey if he can get a decent story, what the hell. (I like watching the TMZ too, so go figure.) LouieB
  20. I'll take your word for it. I don't care that much. Thanks. LouieB
