Just finished You and I. So far, Bull Black Nova and Deeper Down kill. One Wing is great too.. not wild about the vocal harmonies on the end instead of the duel guitar jam, but it's still great. I love how You and I is like one of those lame late 70's love duets.. except awesome

Hmm, I was unaware I'll Fight was played full band. And I always assumed You Never Know was played acoustic until I just listened now and hear the electric guitar for the first time.

It should be noted that You Never Know, Country Disappeared, and I'll Fight were full band acoustic. At this point, only Wilco (the Song), One Wing, and Sonny Feeling have been played as a full band in what we expect to be their album form

Relevant or not, I'm listening to Chutes Too Narrow now, and God is it good. Not many records being made these days that sound like this. The 3rd record definitely had some gems, but was quite a letdown.

I do think its sad that there's already 3 pages on a review that hasnt been written about an album we haven't heard, but I'll add to it anyway because I'm a hypocrite. Pitchfork does tend to focus a bit much on being hip and breaking the next big thing, but I still read it every day, have already picked up some great records on their suggestion this year (How would I have heard Japandroids?) and agree with around 75% of their reviews. I don't expect them to give this a good review as they completely missed the ball on Ghost and (somewhat) on SBS, but with the amount of influence they have over

I am really surprised as well. I was convinced that Good Eye would be awesome live.. like a modern-day Ramrod. I also would've expected him to open up the encores with The Last Carnival in the same way he did with City of Ruins on the Rising tour. At the very least, I'm pleased this isn't a rehash of the Magic tour. There are definitely distinctive sections of the set and their choice of openers and closers seem to be working really well Oh, and Gypsy Biker rules. I didn't see it live, so I can't attest to its quality, or lack of in concert, but the record version is great.

I found his comments on the use of music in movies really interesting. While I don't shy my love for Wes Anderson movies, he's got a point about how a song needs to support a scene, both lyrically and mood wise, and that it's more effective to have songs by one person. Using original songs by a certain artist is part of what made the music in Harold and Maude, Juno and Once so effective. He definitely is an odd dude though.

They sound nothing like that cover. The cover is a total synthed out pop-fest whereas NMH is more in the punk influenced folk category. If you cared enough to get the Merge compilation, you should at the very least get In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and give it a try. It's one of my all-time favorite records
