  1. I've been spinning his first 4 solo discs quite a bit over the past few weeks. NP: Eddie Cochran - Somethin' Else
  2. I'm so sorry to hear that jcroach. I lost my Mom to cancer 3 months ago so I have an idea of what you must be going through. I hope you and your family get through this okay. It wasn't easy for me, but family, friends and music helped me, and still help me deal with it.
  3. I have quite a few of the Numero Group releases, mostly the Soul ones. I haven't been disappointed with any of them. That upcoming Syl Johnson set looks really good. May have to get that.
  4. Never been double booked but once did a gig where we performed in-between rounds of a bikini contest. Not exactly what we had expected when we originally got the gig. The girls dressing room was right next door to ours, unfortunately no Motley Crue like parties ensued.
  5. Started watching this last night:
  6. Harper's Bizarre - Feelin' Groovy Segarini - Goodbye L.A. Black Merda - Black Merda
  7. Just when I thought I'd already seen the best episode of the season they pull this one out. Stellar writing coupled with Hamm and Moss made that one pitch perfect. Very powerful episode. I sense a 4th Emmy in Mad Men's future. When the mouse appeared in Draper's office I was totally waiting for him to tie it in with the elephant and the Samsonite. I definitely recall an add with an elephant back in the day. I'm sure it will come up in the next episode.
  8. I'm a big blaxploitation fan, but this one is particularly cheesy I must say. If it weren't for some fine looking ladies this one would have little else going for it.
  9. Yeah, great film. You gotta admire a film that manages to pull off the rare feat of having its 2 lead characters be so unlikable. I'm not sure which one is worse, I think I'll give the edge to Lancaster's J.J. character.
  10. You're probably right--not about the American part though, I'm Canadian--you post a lot of stuff I'm into as well. I was listening to that Dr. Strangely Strange disc just the other day. I became a fan of Ronee's after seeing her in Altman's "Nashville." Naturally I had to track down her 2 solo records. I also have a bootleg of unreleased stuff somewhere. It's too bad she turned to acting instead of continuing with the music. Yeah, Copperfields is the only other Dillards disc I have. Both are great of course. NP: Maffitt & Davies - The Rise and Fall of Honesty Jimmie Spheeri
  11. Gary Wilson - You Think You Really Know Me
  12. Ronee Blakley - Welcome The Dillards - Wheatstraw Suite
  13. One of my favorite CCR songs. Paul Westerberg did a nice version of this too on a tour a few years back. I don't know about Jeff, but I'd be freaking out on the inside big time working with Mavis. Talk about some serious Soul history (and greatness) there.
  14. The Beatles - I Am the Walrus ("Man you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe") X - Adult Books ("jackie susann meant it that way") Not sure if this counts as literature, but anyway... The Magnetic Fields - I Don't Want to Get Over You ("I could make a career of being blue--I could dress in black and read Camus") Blur - Country House (He's reading balzac, knocking back prozac") Simon & Garfunkel - The Dangling Conversation ("And you read your Emily Dickinson, and I my Robert Frost") Loudon Wainwright III - Cobwebs ("Yeah it might have started back with Jack Kerouac") De
  15. Gladys Knight & The Pips - The Ultimate Collection Jackie DeShannon - Jackie ...plus
  16. Thanks howdjadoo. I saw the links for Son of Dracula on the "For The Love Of Harry" site a while back, but I'm not a fan of MP3s so I passed on them. The version I have is a FLAC (lossless) version that is quite adequate sound wise (vinyl sourced I believe) so it's probably the best it will get until a retail release.
  17. There are a few CDs that were issued compiling various Parliaments singles. I got this one a few years back (worth getting if you can find it): Okay, back on topic. Not a band, but an artist that changed drastically since his first recordings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZ8k6fVe25k
  18. With the Draper in California episode and this latest one we're finally getting more glimpses into 60s culture outside of the narrow world of the office. I half expect to see Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan or Phil Ochs show up in one of Peggy's future nights out on the town, here's hoping.
  19. More good news regarding the Harry Nilsson documentary. It's finally getting a DVD release on October 26, 2010. You can pre-order it on amazon.com: Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him)? My Harry fandom seems to know no bounds as I recently ordered the 13 2007 Japanese Mini-LP 24-bit remasters I was missing from my collection (there's 15 all together.) These releases sound great and have more bonus tracks than any of the previous releases. Also, the replica artwork of the original LPs these come housed in is really fantastic. With the recent reissue of "Spotli
  20. The Free Design - The Best of Free Design Randy Newman - 12 Songs
