  3. As a Mets fan, I remember reading that story 4 or 5 times the week it came out, shaking my head and drooling in anticipation of what was to come. Of course, the April Fools aspect didn't even enter my mind. Just another great story by Plimpton. Of course, we practically had our Sidd Finch in the form of young Dwight Gooden in that magical year of 1985. 24-4, 1.53 era. Magic.
  4. Make it all of side 1 of the What's Going On LP! There's a track on the deluxe anniversary edition of What's Going On that underscores just how exquisite this recording is, an alternate mix of "What's going On"... There is no lead vocal, and it starts simply with James Jamerson's bass and the sax riff by Eli Fountain (famously done as a warm-up which Marvin kept), and then slowly adds vibes, piano, Eddie "Bongo" Brown's bongos, strings, drums, and backing vocals. The melodies that interplay among the different instruments (mostly shielded by Marvin's brilliant vocal take) are on full displa
  5. yeah I didn't get that either... found it an ounce confusing Oh, and baseball in hi-def is GLORIOUS.
  6. 4 shirtless Fans in the bleachers had "F" "U" "K" "U" in red white & blue on their chests... good laugh. Braun is the real deal for sure... and Alex Gordon had a nice day for the Royals as well. And my tickets for the last-ever Baseball Hall of Fame Game (Cubs/Padres day after fathers' day, Doubleday Field, Cooperstown NY) arrived today to boot! Lord how I love this game... yeah, but you know as well as I how it is. The fair-weather folks inevitably come out. Believe me, it was a helluva lot easier (& cheaper) to get a ticket for a game @ shea 3 years ago. The fair-weather fuc
  7. He is the world's baby bitch. Next time you see him, embrace him, and say it lovingly into his ear. He'll collapse.
  8. Every native New Yorker I know has an immediate relative living in Florida nowadays... that's just the way it is, bobbob... you really didn't expect to see any Endy Chavez or Brian Schneider jerseys, did you? There probably aren't many Rick VandenHurk or Taylor Tankersley jerseys bouncing around Dolphins Stadium either.
  9. i enjoy folks who enjoy the mets

  13. Gotta say go with a Squier, definitely try to play it through an amp or two first (and not buy one in a box like they sell them sometimes)... if you can spring an extra $80 or so, they make a squier version of the Telecaster Thinline that I couldn't help but pick up, and it felt and sounded rather nice. It seemed like one of those Squiers where if you replace the volume/tone pots and the output jack (and eventually the pickups if you really like the feel of the guitar), and throw a bit of that copper shielding into it, you've practically got yourself a Fender. edit: here it is at Musician's

  16. If we're talking recordings, and the beauty that can result from the limitations of a recording environment, then it's "I Only Have Eyes for You" by The Flamingos for me. The sounds in that recording are so hauntingly gorgeous.
