  1. interview seemed to focus a lot on Uncle Tupelo and early Wilco, and very little on the new album. Seems like a wasted opportunity to me.
  2. Record companies have started streaming to the media instead of sending out CDs, mainly because it's a lot more difficult to "capture" a stream and convert it MP3 without it sounding like crap. So most of the torrent sites won't even allow it to be published. It also allows for better security in the form of log ins (the stream is usually only accessed via a record company server, and individual passwords go out to the press). So they know who is logging in and listening, and when. Some recent bands have been sending Streams to NPR before they leak, and they debut there. The recent Panda Bea
  3. i like to think of early low quality leaks as almost demos. You can get a good idea where the album will be, but I try not to make final judgement until I have the proper album in hand. Sometimes it makes an album even better...like you have this certain expectation based on the sound quality, and then when the actual album hits, it's like someone put a new coat of paint on your car. The album glistens.
  4. Record companies sometimes offer a stream to press. It would make sense because if the magazines want to make copy for a September issue they would need to hear the album now to make deadline. I bet it's out there in limited form. The album is probably being pressed at this very moment...
  5. here we go... the opinions seem kinda mixed from the folks that have heard it.
  6. wait..so the album is out there? If anyone has it, please PM me!!! I have already pre-ordered, but need to hear this NOW.
  7. looking for a really great quality version of Spiders Solo. I heard the Hawaii bootleg and he opened up with it, and I loved it. It's much shorter and too the point. I don't think even the acoustic Wilco version was like that. But im not crazy about the sound quality. Can anyone recommend a show/track to download off Wilco Archive?
  8. That sounds good to me. Love Mountain Bed
  9. oh, so I totally forgot another reason I hate You Never Know...that George Harrison guitar riff is SUPER cheesy. Anyway....the "two Nels guitar solo songs per album" thing has been going on since he joined the group. I hope they give him a little more too do this time around..he's such a talented guitarist.
  10. I also think that the album will be bookended by loud progressive jams, with lots of light hearted stuff in between. If it wasn't for I Might, I would be less enthusiastic, but I love the direction of that track so...
  11. I like how the music stops and then picks up again at the end of the teaser. Gets me everytime.
  12. No you are right i am over analyzing it...but when I came to the realization that this was the real reason I was disappointed with the album, not just because it was "average" for a Wilco album, I started to really dislike the album even more.
  13. and if you think I'm nuts, you are probably right. If you think I have too many thoughts about the songs I don't like, you don't want me to get started on the songs that I love I mean I could probably write a Thesis on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, if not on "Jesus, Etc" alone.
  14. yeah, you are exactly right. It's just completely average, which is difficult to swallow when the band has released nothing but above average material in the past. That's why those two songs annoy me so much. Let me sum up what I feel Wilco is "saying" to me when I hear them.... Wilco (The Song) - "You love us, here is more music you'll love because you love us, because we are the only important thing in your life, we are here to help you with your problems. You can always count on us!" You Never Know - "Your problems don't really mean anything to us. In fact your problems are probably m
  15. Misunderstood is like the complete opposite of Wilco the Album. It's a song about being a new artist and not getting respect, it's also about how being a "rock star" isn't as glamourous as it seems. Wilco the song is like the band coddling their audience....it's all done tongue and cheek, but it's still condescending to me. I'm glad Wilco loves me "baby" but they aren't my only salvation in life. And that being said there is nothing on Wilco the album that is emotional in the first place. So good luck trying to "relate" with any of these songs to help get over some stress in your life... Oh
  16. Is Wilco the song really a tribute to fans or a condescending look at who their fans our? The album assumes a parental role/influence of their followers. It's totally big headed.... Follow that with "you never know" which literally calls their audience "children" and basically says..oh don't worry, every generation thinks its the end of the world. everything is just fine..maybe for Wilco or Jeff, but 2008/2009 was a really difficult time for a lot of people due to the start of the ongoing recession, record unemployment, etc. The album just rubbed me the wrong way. I prefer to forget it.
  17. And it seems obvious that Jeff realized this..based on the album title, opening track, and ridiculously lazy cover art. It's the definition of a "in progress" album. Nothing about it feels new, in fact most of the tracks seem like luke warm leftovers that Jeff found at the bottom of the tour bus. God was that album a disappointment...
  18. My main problem with Wilco (TA) Is that it's extremely passive and emotionless. Sky Blue Sky may have been slow, but it was very strong lyrically. Plus impossible Germany kills both One Wing and Bull Black. Going back to my hatred for You Never Know...the chorus "I dont care anymore" is exactly the feeling I get from the album. The album seemed rushed (Jeff has even mentioned it was recorded quickly)..there doesn't seem to be much thought to any of the music. The whole album is generic and a bit self-congratulatory.
  19. I like deeper down, one wing, and bull black nova (although I dont love it) Dislike Wilco the song, you and I, you never know(probably my least favorite Wilco song, due to the arrogant lyrics) The second half of the album is really forgettable to me. I enjoy Solitare a bit..but it feels watered down. I fight is just generic. Everlasting is alright, but probably my least favorite closing track on a Wilco album ever.
  20. I listened to Wilco (TA) last weekend, and realized that I only really enjoy 2 or 3 tracks on the album, most of it is completely forgetable. Something I've never considered before. Compared to loving every song on their previous albums. I blame Feist. I remain cautious to get too excited, but I think "I Might" left a positive outlook. The songs ive heard live sound good, and finally this little teaser has really changed my expectations. I also like that a deluxe edition with 17 tracks will be out Day 1.
  21. yeah..seeing a band for $15 bucks in a small club, then being forced to pay $50 to see them in an arena does hurt a bit. However just be happy you were able to see them play in such a small venue...so all those new "kids" can be jealous of you. That being said, I've seen Wilco 4 times (YHF tour, AGIB tour, festival gig, Evening With tour), and each time I have somehow found a way to be very close to the stage. I've never had a problem getting tickets to their shows either (however I live in South Florida, the 1 place on their entire "evening with" tour that did not sell out.)
  22. Didn't realize people disliked Bragg, His songs on the albums are great, and I enjoy his solo work. I already own Mermaid 1 & 2 on CD, but I would definitely be interested in hearing those bonus tracks, and maybe picking up a vinyl.
  23. Wilco have a pretty large following guys, most of their shows sell out. They have earned every fan they have by hardwork and dedication, and they have done it without having to conform to what a record executive tells them to do. They get air play on some alternative radio and sattellite radio, they arent completely invisible. They have even won a Grammy. I have never met a Wilco fan I didn't like. They tend to attract people that actually care about the music they listen too, instead of just being fed whatever is on the top 20. As long as they sustain quality songwriting/performances, the
  24. I wonder why they havent played this song live yet? Possibly they are "saving" it until the album releases?
