exactly what I said...the word "pop" can be used to describe anything. I like to think of it as "radio-friendly" not that they play much Wilco on the Radio unless you listen to NPR or Sirius Spectrum.
-
I'm expecting more of a "jam" then all lyrics. Wilco songs have never been heavy on lyrics/new verses.
-
Spiders (kidsmoke) is that a "pop" song? I don't think so. When I think of Wilco Pop songs I think of "You and I", "Outta Site, Outta Mind", "Heavy Metal Drummer"...Not Impossible Germany or Company on My Back.

I can see you must be one of those people. Sorry to offend you, but Ive been a member of that board since 2003, and it has going seriously down hill. The release of the new album, the whining, the speculation of a part 2, and all the other nonsense crap that goes on there is amazing. If I were a mod half the members would have been banned months ago. I just hate fake posts, rickrolls, 700 page threads with nothing but moronic jokes, etc. The place totally sucks now. I hope this board doesnt go as far south.

7 minute pop songs exist, but not many Wilco songs that are 7 mins are what I would consider pop. Not sure why everyone is so down on the idea of 20 new Wilco songs.

the word "pop" can be used to describe pretty much anything. There is nothing "pop" about a 7 minute song. Being There and Summer Teeth are extremely poppy..so I don't know what you are all worried about. The problem with Wilco (the album) wasn't that it was poppy, it was because the lyrics felt soul less and forced. It was a big change from Sky Blue Sky which was much more personal and heartfelt. I know its not that popular on this board but Sky BLue Sky is one of my favorite records. Probably in my top 3, after YHF and GIB.

This board is like a cool coffee shop compared to other band message boards like AtEase which are filled with 30 year olds acting like 12 year olds acting like 6 year olds.

I would consider Ghost is Born to be slightly obnoxious.

Gotta say the Spin atricle made me more excited for the album..not that I wasn't excited before. I think Wilco (the album) was a real low point in the bands writing. It felt generic and rushed compared to their other material. It's the only album of theirs I rarely listen to. Reading that they took a break and really spent time writing gives me high hopes that they are back on track. I fell in love with the "experimental folk rock" wilco, so I am hoping this new album heads more in that direction. An Epic double album would be really awesome. Something like Being There meets Ghost is Born.

really like the new song...I wonder if it will stay acoustic on the album, or if it will be a lot different, kind of impossible to tell, but it works really well as a slow acoustic number.
-
let's hope it's more then 8 songs...

My main problem with the last album is that the songs were not personal enough. YHF, AGIB, and SBS were full of lyrically strong and complex songwriting. and even though SBS was simpler, the songs still felt very emotional and real. Wilco The album was basically the band writing an album about there sound instead of creating something honest and real, it felt manufactured. I just want that Wilco back...I want to feel the emotion, as the last album was completely lacking it.

Thought I'd pass on the good news..in a recent Facebook Post. Sorry if this is old... "Okay just a reminder: Wilco are making a record. It will be out later this year and will be followed by many many concert dates. To quote Derek Smalls, they shall tour "the World and Elsewhere" beginning in late 2011" EDIT..whoops just realized that this info was in the press release for the new label..which I somehow missed. Sorry.

It figures they play Forget The Flowers..the song I wanted to hear the most. Oh well. No way I could've afford going to both shows, but I don't think I would be as disappointed with that setlist compared to the Miami one. Hope they come back someday soon. EDIT Actually Im looking at the Miami setlist, and I am glad I got to hear Misunderstood, Monday, and a few more tracks off of Sky Blue Sky...as they didnt tour here for SBS at all. So maybe its a case of the grass being greener.

LOL, I told everyone on Facebook that his son was jamming on stage. Whoops. LOL. I know that his son plays, so I didnt think it was that impossible. That's pretty cool that Jeff let a 12 year old come up on stage and jam with them. Ha ha.

here is what I posted in the other thread I'll be honest I was a little disappointed with the show last night. Don't get me wrong, they played an excellent show, and sounded amazing, but I was hoping for a older song setlist. Maybe it's just my general dislike for pretty much all the songs from Wilco the Album. I was hoping seeing them live would change my opinion of them, but it only cemented that fact. I can't believe they skipped playing Via Chicago or She's a Jar to play something as boring as "I'll Fight" The Spiders acoustic was a cool idea, but it got kinda lost in transition. I wo

So what are the chances they play a cover of "Thirteen" by Big Star? What about a guest appearnce by Feist? Seems likely as this is a Miami show..coming off a weekend.

ticket says Doors at 7:30, show at 8:30

Zeke's is a good place for "cheap" beer pn Lincoln Road. Just remember that it's CASH ONLY. It's not much of a bar, but more of a package liquor joint counter service with some tables out front, and a small bar. If you are looking for a cool pub for before or after the show, check out the Abbey. One of the older (and smaller) brew pubs in South Beach. They brew their own beer and have top micros as well http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-abbey-brewing-company-miami-beach can't wait for the show tonight!!!

This is so right on. I agree completely...SBS is probably my second favorite album..its also some of Jeff's most emotional lyrics to date. I wish Wilco the album had as much sincerity.
-
I loved SBS the day I heard it, and that hasn't changed. I can't say the same for Wilco (the album)

Here is my experience at two Wilco shows. When I saw them on the YHF tour they played an old theater...no one was standing. After the first song ended...Jeff said "This isn't Wilco the movie, stand up folks!" and we stood the rset of the show. I then saw them on the GIB tour and we were in the 2nd row, but there was a PIT section that for some reason they did not sell tickets for. We were standing up..and someone behind me, actually asked me to sit down..which REALLY pissed my wife and I off. Who doesn't stand up in the second row? WTF people? Anyway...after the second or third song..

What bands or artist do you like more than Wilco?
rhino4evr replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
Wilco is my number 3. The Beatles being number 1, Radiohead Number 2. My wife's favorite band is REM..second favorite is Wilco. -
I find this pretty funny, becuase it's true. I mean most of the stuff that teens listen to is fed to them through corporate media or American Idol these days. It's almost all garbage. When I was in high school most of the kids in my class were listening to pop garbage like Right Said Fred or Vanilla Ice, while I was discovering underground acts like Pavement and the Pixies. It's not just teenagers that wouldnt be caught dead at a Wilco show, it's a majority of the population. Which is just the way I like it.
