  1. Pretty sure Rose Hill Drive has opened for Wilco in the past.
  2. Robbie Fulks does a great cover of this.
  3. I just saw this, Jen. Vibes for Tuesday, and nice impulse buy!
  4. Thanks for all your work on this! Aaaand a couple more things. First, I'm pretty sure the line in I'll Fight is "a hymnal" not "at hymnal." A hymnal is something you would hold. Also, another question. In this verse from You Never Know: There's a lone Heavy hell Synthesized about and I don't care anymore I don't care anymore What is the middle line? Anybody? I can't tell, but I'm betting it isn't "synthesized about and." By the way, nice job ryan7739!
  5. One of the weekly drawing prizes: * an official major league baseball signed by the Wilco crew I really hope they literally just mean the Wilco crew.
  6. Sonny Feeling lyrics question: The winds are less heavy or The winds are less angry?
  7. Ah, I see that now. Sorry, it's hard to keep track of the suggestions if they're not changed in the original posts. (Hollinger.) ( )
  8. Yeah, you're right on the meaning. I was just comparing "aural arms" to "sonic shoulder." But listening to another version from much earlier (Madison, 11/1/08), that sounds much more like "hour of our". Or something with more syllables than aural. Hmmmmm. I just got one of the other lines too, listening to another version: Tired of being exposed to the cold stare of your stereo It's a complete sentence. Also, There's so many wars that just can't be won Even before the battle's begun
  9. "Aural arms open wide" really makes sense, especially given that the next line says the same thing in a slightly different way: "a sonic shoulder for you to cry on"
  10. How did I forget the Monkees? Okay, all kidding aside, I realize that these songs I'm mentioning are different in intent from Wilco (the song). They're more (super cheesy) introductions or explanations of who the band is and what they do. But I just can't believe none of these songs occurred to me before now.
  11. HAAAA. Oh no. Between this, NKOTB and Color Me Badd, this song is never going to be the same to me.
  12. New Kids on the Block (yes, it's a self-titled song) We know you've heard this beat many, many times But we bet you've never heard it with such a vicious rhyme A rhyme with class and plenty of clout To show you sucker m.c.'s what it's about We hear the same stories everywhere we go Hey, it's nynuk who stole the show So for all you party people who are in a state of shock We're the new kids on the block! Chillin' on the corner, the first day we arrived from the looks of the hoods, we didn't think we'd survive Second day we were there, we were walking down the street With a rhyme in mind and
  13. Oh man. Now all I can think about are horrible 80s/early 90s songs that do this. Color Me Badd had a song on their first (only?) album. The lyrics included something like "We'd like to introduce us ... we're Color Me Bad the funky new baaand!" They even mentioned their record company. The chorus was just the band name repeated a bunch of times. (Forgive me, I was about 10 when it came out.) Also there was a NKOTB song where they all introduced themselves. I think it was a rap. On their first album. Not sure if they all sang. OMG, these are the precursors to Wilco (the song)!
  14. Double tracking Jeff's own vocals on a song called Solitaire seems fitting. I know you weren't specifically talking about that one, but anyhow.
  15. I noted that above, but wasn't sure. Glad to have someone who hears it the same, at least. Love the name change. At the end of Sonny Feeling I thought I heard "some of the feeling is taken away." Then I retracted the statement because really, that sounds identical to "some other feeling is taken away" unless you're enunciating like a mofo. Who knows.
  16. Hey Maudie, why are IL and WI so far above everyone else in H1N1 flu totals for the USA? It's Sheboygan's fault, isn't it.
  17. Third listen, Solitaire sounds Loose Furry.
  18. Country Disappeared April blush?
  19. Wilco (the song) I hear "This is an aural arms open wide" Ha, almost jinx, Donna.
  20. I actually listened to it again rather than relying on memory. Now I hear "thrown." Oops.
  21. http://preorderwilcothealbum.kungfustore.com/ Iron-on letters, HA
  22. 2 cents for now... hearing a live version would help.
  23. Hmm. For I'll Fight - going from memory now, but is it grandchildren far and near?
  24. Ha, I was just going to make the same observation. I have never understood the compulsion people have to rank albums in relation to each other. (And not chronologically.) Clearly I'm in the minority, because everyone else seems to do it. But that's just not how I think of it at all. I know what I like and don't like - I could give you lists of stuff I love and hate - but I've never felt the need to put it all onto any sort of continuum. Which is odd, because I organize the hell out of most things in my life. SS - people are doing it all over the place here in terms of where this album
