  1. I just love quoting myself, but I think I've figured out the answers to some of my questions. Not every date is going on the pre-sale tomorrow--just the earlier ones, and not even all of those. Go to http://www.bobdylan.com/us/upcoming-dates for the details. MPP and VA Beach pre-sales are not until 4/30. Which I'm kind of glad to hear, because by then maybe my other questions will have been answered as well.
  2. Two questiions. . . .no, make that three: Has anybody heard what pre-sale means in this instance? I know usually pre-sales sell out really quickly and we all go nuts thinking that's our last chance for tickets, or last chance for GOOD seats, and then it turns out there were only a few tickets released for the pre-sale, and they weren't even the best ones at the venue. So just wondering--has anyone heard what pre-sale means in this instance? Live Nation does not have info for the 7/23 show at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Usually MPP uses Ticketfly, but I don't see this event on their page, and
  3. Ye gods. To quote Low, "if I could just make it stop."
  4. Ditto on all the above. Plus, Bob Dylan has never been a guy you'd think you'd like to have a beer with. He's famously--and intentionally, and frustratingly--inscrutable. There are some great artists, of course, like Springsteen, who does seem more like a regular guy. But a transformative genius like Dylan doesn't come along very often, and a certain element of orneriness seems to go with the territory. He goes his own way. My comments earlier about his not being at the top of his game are only directed at his voice, which I personally find painful to listen to these days. It's just shot. An
  5. I'm always shocked at how cheap Wilco tickets usually are, generally in the $45-$60 range. I agree that for a bill like this these prices are more than reasonable. Whether the shows will be entirely satisfying for fans of any of the three headliners is another story entirely, since everybody will be playing way shorter sets than they would be as a headliner. I've resigned myself to the notion that each set individually--well, specifically Wilco's--will not be everything a hardcore fan will want to hear. (For that, there's Solid Sound. ) What I'm hoping for instead is an afternoon/evening of
  6. Hey Dave! Looking so forward to all the Wilco fun to come. I'm planning on Merriweather Post and Virginia Beach, so we definitely need to plan a get together--if we're not sick of all the togetherness after Solid Sound. Ha! According to the email I got today from Wilco HQ, the presale password should be available tomorrow at 5:00 on wilcoworld.net. So far, though, it seems like everything is being released somewhat ahead of schedule, so I wouldn't be surprised to see something a little sooner than that.
  7. Sadly , there's no way Bob alone can rise to the occasion, given the state of his voice. My bet is that his "progeny" (Jeff and Jim) will join him onstage for the last hour, to help out with vocals. I think Bob must recognize the limitations of his vocals these days.
  8. I think they're probably all hellholes compared to the sweet venues Wilco usually plays, but I'm not complaining. Also, this is my chance to conveniently drag my friends and family who think I'm insane and show them what's what! Actually, it will be interesting to hear from others on here who do know any of the venues, because I'd like to make a little roadtrip to see a couple more dates. I can certainly vouch for Meriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia MD as not being a dump.

  10. Looks like the Dylan website has pulled the info. I wrote it down, though (not with details about venue) and here's what I got: 6/26 West Palm, FL 6/27 Tampa 6/29 Atlanta6/30 Nashville 7/2 Memphis 7/5 Noblesville, IN 7/6 Cincinnati 7/7 Columbus, OH 7/10 St. Paul, MN 7/11 Peoria 7/12 Chicago 7/14 Clarkston, MI 7/15 Toronto 7/18 Darien Center, NY 7/19 Bridgeport, CT 7/20 Mansfield, MA 7/21 Saratoga Springs, NY 7/23 Columbia, MD 7/24 Virginia Beach 7/26 Hoboken 7/27 Wantagh, NY 7/28 Camden, NJ 7/31 Denver 8/1 Salt Lake City 8/3 Irvine, CA 8/4 Mountain View, CA
  11. Oh my god, I cannot believe it--Virginia Beach on July 24!!! I get to actually see this dream concert without a road trip!!
  12. I think the only show they haven't played it was in Auckland. I was shocked to see it omitted. Is there any other song in their catalog that gets played more often?
  13. According to the link it says you can only submit one request. I'm not sure how they'll be able to monitor this unless after submitting your request you have to register or something. I haven't done it yet because if they really are going to be able to enforce the one vote rule, I want to make sure of my request. OK, I've decided, Marquee Moon by Television, for 2 reasons--I think I remember that Jeff once got a guitar lesson from Tom Verlaine as a gift from his wife, and also can you imagine Nels on that solo??
  14. On a Randy Newman fansite Little Criminals, someone posted some of Randy's remarks. They were droll and self-deprecating as usual, but one part I thought was really funny. Randy was saying that when he didn't make it in the Hall of Fame about 20 years ago, "I did think I was going to have to die and I'd have to watch from below with my relatives." Typical Randy--he packs a punch with a very few words.
  15. I just loved watching that. It's good to see how relaxed and at ease with himself and the others George Harrison was, and just generally they all seemed to be having a good time reminiscing.
  16. Actually Crow made his reasons known in his last post on the West, Texas explosion thread, as Bleedorange said.

You ASSUME sucked. Maybe Cam meant puked. In which case, the show might really have sucked!
  18. God, this is fascinating stuff, this coverage. It reinforces my admiration for what seems to be excellent police work.
  19. The song request link is now up over at the Solid Sound website http://solidsoundfestival.com/song-request/ Should we try stuffing the ballot box for a song or two?
  20. He's coming to Nashville on July 14. And to Charlottesville on July 19. I'm on it!
  21. [quote name=Carlton Your Doorman" post="1524128" time="1366325365]I remembered seeing this in 2005. The whole thing's a no brainer surely when this sort of thing can happen, plus they get free tickets ...http://dannymiller.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/tweedystones_1.jpg]http://dannymiller.typepad.com/blog/2005/11/you_cant_always.html Oh hell yes! Seriously, now that this notion has had time to settle in, I'm hoping like mad that this does happen again. Gotta see the Stones one more time before they pack it in, and what better way than with Wilco opening? A girl's entit
  22. I actually love the Stones and have seen them many times over the years since the late sixties, so I totally get why they would get a kick out of playing a date or two as the warmup band. And there could be some great interactions--obviously, Nels sitting in with the Stones for a shredfest, and Mick could school Jeff in onstage strutting. And what a time to dust off the old Nudie suits! But I just hope if this happens it would be for at most a date or two, But what do I know? Their instincts haven't steered them wrong yet. I'll try to have faith that they know what they're doing.
  23. This would seem so weird to me, unless it was part of a festival where Wilco played the set just before the Stones. I just don't see Wilco as an opening act anymore. What would they do, play for 45 minutes or an hour? Why would they do that? Maybe as just a one off special event it could be cool. I guess it could expose them to a new audience. But still, I think it would be very unsatisfying for Wilco fans.
  24. Thanks for such a detailed report, Paul. It's always so much fun to watch Josh and his slinky moves! Sounds like an incredibly satisfying tour, for both fans and the band. I would imagine that they'll be pumped and feeling great as they head back home and, presumably, to the Loft to continue working on the new record. This all leaves me feeling really optimistic about what they'll come up with next.
  25. Oh god, tears are streaming down my face! I can mostly get what what's being conveyed in chunks of this review--I do believe I've figured out that Nerusu Klein is quite the guitarist!--but some of it is hilariously inscrutable. But golly gee, I think they liked it! It would be cool if someone on here who is actually bilingual could provide a more accurate translation of what I think was a really well written review, but if not I'll just keep smiling at the thought of "digging a lingering hot" in this "barrel brain of one."
