  1. The Brian Henneman interview is priceless. Lots of great stories from the old days, and he's a very unguarded, funny guy.
  2. Kind of humdrum, I know, but I heard Heavy Metal Drummer at Nordstrom's cosmetic counter today.
  3. I'm guessing Shake It Off and Leave Me Like You Found Me might be on that list, since they never play them anymore.
  4. Cool interview--thanks for posting. I had not heard before about JT producing for White Denim. Also, very happy to see his shout outs to Randy Newman and John Prine, two of my personal heroes.
  5. Well, it looks like a sure thing. We're gonna find out what sequester really means. Here in Norfolk, VA, with the military and ship repair businesses so prevalent, it should be REAL interesting. I wonder what day-to-day impact those of us who don't think we'll be affected will actually feel.
  6. I said it was good advice. When have you ever known me to take good advice?
  7. I'm excited to see the days each performer will be playing too, but as usual there's also the angst about what I'll have to miss. Solid Sound does a better job than most festivals of not scheduling too many overlapping performances, but inevitably there's going to be something that's frustrating. For me, the biggest problem is wanting to be way up front during Wilco's sets, and invariably that means missing some other sets entirely so that I can be close to the front for Wilco. The first year they blocked off access to Joe's Field (the big stage) and had people line up behind a gate until some
  8. I also think Mule Variations is kind of great. Take It With Me alone is worth the price of admission, but there's also Big in Japan, Come on up to the House, Get Behind the Mule, Chocolate Jesus. Hell, it's a great album.
  9. I started looking for this and discovered it's an episode from 11/25/2012. Looks like you're as far behind on listening to your podcasts as I am, Plumplechook! Thanks for the notification, though--this was an episode I had inadvertently skipped over.
  10. I've heard and read the same thing, but I also remember reading somewhere that Jeff explicitly said it wasn't about a particular person. Gold lame doesn't seem to fit with Paul Westerberg, so I tend to think of it in a more generalized way.
  11. Just listened to this today. Wow, thanks for the heads up! I enjoyed it very much, especially for the UT and Wilco content, but also his other remarks. I had no idea John Mellencamp was such a well-known asshole.
  12. I just did this and boy, what a surprise. I wonder how far in time this reaches back, because Wilco doesn't even make the list, and I feel like I listen to an inordinate amount of Wilco now. But this list is full of Bright Eyes (I'm Wide Awake it's Morning, mainly), Green Day (American Idiot) and a Townes Van Zandt tribute album called "Poet" with various artist singing Townes's songs. I do remember listening A LOT to all 3 of these albums when I first got them, but not so much recently. Also, I tend to listen to albums all the way through rather than shuffling songs, so there's not too mu
  13. How about The Lonely 1? That's definitely love of a sort--a sort I can relate to.
  14. [quote name=mountain bed" post="1519826" time="1360902209"]Not a single cop anywhere in the area for 3 days. Oh the shenanigans we can get up to. Let's remember the recent changes in Massachusetts laws.
  15. I saw him in Charlottesville last week, and I've held off commenting because I feel old and out of it, but I really have to echo what brianjeremy said. I'm a newcomer to Jeff Mangum and NMH, but I immersed myself in Aeroplane, Avery Island and even the Jittery Joe's CDs before going. As far as the performance, it was terrific--it felt very much like ripthisjoint described. Obviously, I don't have the soul-deep connection with the music that many people have, though, so I didn't expect to be overcome with emotion and I guess I shouldn't be judgmental about people who were, but damn, it was asto
  16. "Ze full lineup"--ha ha. I predicted it would be "ze end" but close enough. I love these guys.
  17. Well if they don't announce a Tweedy solo--and I'm still hoping they do--I'll bet it's Yo La Tengo on Sunday, with Wilco joining for the final hour or so. I'm more than satisfied with this.
  18. Oh boo hoo hoo. No JT solo. Unless they pull it out as a last minute surprise. Or maybe they'll announce it spur of the moment at the festival like they did with some events in 2011--a pop-up announcement. Could happen, right? Right?
  19. Mmmm, Samosa Man. That does deserve its own announcement.
  20. In rereading the Uncut piece, there isn't much specific info. Jeff says he's always got tons of song fragments that he looks to develop when the band gets together. He said that right now there are about 90 unrecorded song fragments he could develop, the most recent being one he wrote just the day before, with a working title "Associate Sunrise." Mainly he talked about the production of the Low and Mavis albums. He said the Mavis album is very spare musically. Both he and his son Spencer play on it; Spencer is on drums.
  21. Oh, I knew that name sounded familiar, but I didn't remember the Baseball Project connection! Hmm, now I wonder if Scott McCaughey will be there too? I bet he will . . . Thanks for the memory jogger.
  22. By the way, did you all know there's going to be an awesome Wilco festival in June? Three days of peace, love and understanding, with nary a gun in sight. Just thought I'd mention it.
  23. Funny you should use the cat and mouse analogy, Kidsmoke. Both Spin and Hidden Track seem to be mightily annoyed at this way of announcing the lineup, calling it tedious and maddening, whereas I thought it was a very Tweedy-esque thing to do! One of the local Berkshires websites even used "Sadistic Wilco" in their headline--tongue in cheek, I think. Here's a link, with a quote from Tony Margherita indicating that there might even be a few surprise nuggets announced later. I'm listening to Days of Wine and Roses by Dream Syndicate now on Spotify. Loving it!
