  1. I guess compared to some others on this board I'm a naive true believer, but my enthusiasm has remained at pretty close to obsessive level since 2010. I would call myself a casual follower since the early days of Wilco, but I shifted into high gear in 2010, following an Evening With show in Richmond, rediscovery of this board, and the first Solid Sound. It must have been some heady mixture, because it hasn't worn off one bit. I've noticed that most--not all--of the people who post on here and seem to have lost their passion for Wilco also don't go to live shows. Maybe they don't go BECAUSE
  2. Oh, I agree--and I already have spent more hours than I'd care to admit. I can't believe that such an amazing resource is available to us for free. I would gladly pay something to keep this site going.
  3. http://sooutoftune.org/concerts/977 This interview has been really hard to find in a usable format and I just noticed that it's now carried on the sooutoftune.org site. In fact, that site is now greatly expanded with tons more content, including lots of Uncle Tupelo shows, Tweedy solo shows and at least a sampling of various Wilco members' side projects. What a great resource this is!
  4. They're offering a free 1-month iPad only subscription, which I just downloaded. Now I have to figure out how to cut and past and I will post here. But Jeff said basically that they're holed up in the loft now working, and that he has between 30-100 fragments of songs that might be developed. It sounded like they're targeting late 2013 for an album release. He also talked about how they hooked up with Low. Apparently the new album he's working on with Mavis is very low-fi and spare (Spencer plays on it too!) and Low heard some of the recording of that album at the loft and thought it would
  5. Oh, this is so exciting to hear! I'm going to see him on Feb. 4 in Charlottesville. It was really hard to get the ticket, because it's a tiny theater (Jefferson) and apparently it sold out almost immediately after it was announced. Finally found a ticket on Craigslist and will actually be driving the guy I got the ticket from to the show. (He's on the way.) Anyway, I had no idea what to expect, and sometimes highly anticipated events like this don't live up to your expectations, so this just builds the anticipation. It sounds like an unmissable night, and right in my wheelhouse. Thanks so
  6. I cannot stand reading any more of this shit. Boys and their killing toys, talking about "lack of respect for the animal" with a straight face. Are you kidding me?? Yeah, it's very respectful to kill a feeling, sentient creature for fun by using just the right sort of gun. Give me a fucking break! I don't know why that idiotic comment sticks in my craw more than most of the rest of this horseshit, but it does. I won't even go into how disgusting--and yet totally predictable--it is to have the right wingers SO up in arms about some illusory threat of having their precious guns pried from the
  7. That was an obscure unreleased Uncle Tupelo song called Wherever, requested by another VCer who's also a taper. I think it was the second night of the two shows at the Vic, so 3/31/12. You can hear it at www.sooutoftune.org, along with Jeff's comments and interplay with the requester. I had never heard the song before but I liked it--it has a few killer lines.
  8. Haha--no, I think you've got the wrong idea about my gender and age group! I'm the rather . . . ummm. . . "mature" woman with a streak of blonde hair, in profile, doubled over in laughter talking to Sue Tweedy at 3:15. Deb is a few seconds later, at 3:22, wearing a black and white hat and rust colored scarf.
  9. I'm a little late to the party, having discovered Neutral Milk Hotel only a year or so ago, but In the Aeroplane Over the Sea quickly became one of my personal favorites. I hadn't realized Jeff was on tour until I searched for tickets to Yo La Tengo at the Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville and saw that he was playing there on Feb. 4. The show was sold out, of course--it's a tiny theater. But I put out some feelers and checked on Craigslist and finally got my hot little hands on a single ticket to the show for just a small premium over face value. I'm very excited! In preparation I just boug
  10. I just bought the mp3 download ysterday and haven't listened to it yet, either, but I'm going to see them at the Jefferson Theatre (great, small venue in Charlottesville) next week, so I'm looking forward to getting familiar with it before the show.
  11. Ah yes, me and my new BFF Sue yukking it up at 3:15. Not exactly my 15 minutes of fame, but certainly a little thrill! Actually Deb Hickey (dmhphoto) made it in there too--and the bitch got more screen time than me.
  12. This show is also up at sooutoftune.org. I'm listening to it now. So nice!
  13. If the interview with Jeff is even half as entertaining as the one with Larry David we're in for a treat. It was so loose and unstructured and funny. By the way, you all probably know this already, but you can subscribe to the podcast for free through iTunes and just get new episodes downloaded automatically.
  14. I agree with lots of what's been mentioned here, but I would add a few more . . . Randy Newman: Good Old Boys Randy Newman: Bad Love Randy Newman: Harps and Angels Van Morrison: Astral Weeks Rod Stewart: Every Picture Tells a Story Michelle Shocked: Arkansas Traveler Iris DeMent: Infamous Angel John Prine: John Prine Marshall Crenshaw: Marshall Crenshaw Warren Zevon: Warren Zevon Lou Reed: New York Rufus Wainwright: Poses Rufus Wainwright: Out of the Game Tom Waits: Heart Attack and Vine Tom Waits: Small Change Prince: Dirty Mind Prince: Sign o' the Times Bright Eyes: I'm Wide Awake, It's M
  15. For my job it's goal setting time and budget crap and no fun. To quote someone we know and love, I am and always have been "short on long term goals" so for me the answer is NOTHING. .. NOTHING. . .. NOTHING. . . .NOTHING. . .. NOTHING. .. nothing at all!
  16. I can't remember if it's on the list, but I love the Lincoln Hall show too. Last night of the Incredible Shrinking Tour.
  17. [quote name=Wilco Me" post="1517430" time="1357185332]I'm just going by memory here so I could be wrong, but I thought the only song from The Whole Love they sang at Solid Sound was I Might. I was definitely wrong. They played Whole Love, Standing O, Dawned On Me, I Might and Born Alone. How did I forget all that? So wow, we might hear lots from the new album this summer!

  19. I am very excited and surprised about a new album. And Autumn Defense just posted on Facebook that they've got another new one coming out too. What with all of Nels's side projects and one-offs, and Jeff producing records by Mavis Staples, Low and Kids These Days, it seems like these guys are just bursting with restless energy. I think Mikael is setting up a recording studio in California too. This bodes well for some fresh, creative turns in the music, I think.
  20. I was at the Richmond, VA show at the end of March, which was also great. The one, two punch of that show and this one, which was streamed, really solidified my love. And of course the other memorable thing about this show was that they announced the first Solid Sound festival. I remember chatting online "What did he say? Mass mocha??"
  21. No, 28 grand each! I'm not the historian here, but I think that's one more show than he's ever done before, and I'm also pretty sure it's the highest price per show ever.
  22. I've only seen Justin live once, and it was a solo show, so I don't really have a valid basis for comparison, but I think I would agree with you. I've seen several recordings where he's with a band or at least one other player, and while they were really good, I missed the intimacy of the solo show. I agree with everything you said--his connection with the audience is just remarkable! I've mentioned it before but not for a while--if you're on Twitter, you really should subscribe to his tweets. They're not particularly clever or informative, but they're just so random, they make me laugh out
