I just bought this CD yesterday and have only listened to it once, but I really, really like it and I think it's going to hold up well. I figured since I was going to be seeing them multiple times in the next few months, it would enhance my enjoyment to get familiar with the music. Now I've got one more thing to be excited about! And yeah, I'll be stunned if Nels doesn't come out for a song or two on tour.

Quick--somebody grab that as their band name!

Have they announced opening act/s for Wolf Trap? I don't see support info over on Wilcoworld. Yeah, seems like it would usually be a good idea to mix it up with opening acts for back-to-back shows for a band like Wilco. But maybe given the size of the DC metro area, they figure there won't be a high percentage of hardcore "both night" fans.

I'm not overstating when I say that The Band was really the soundtrack of my youth. It was my go-to music when I just wanted to hear something that would always make me feel good. (Much the same place that Wilco occupies for me now.) That's why it was like a dream come true to have Levon at last year's Solid Sound--I can hardly remember being as moved as I was to just watch that joyful grin on his face as they played their glorious set. I thought Robbie was the sexy one but it was Levon's voice and drumming that were the heart and soul of the band. My favorite song was always "Up On Cripple

OMG!!! I just called Wolf Trap and got a chatty representative who confirmed that they're coming July 18 and 19. Tickets won't go onsale to the public till May 5, I think she said. And supposedly the official announcement will be made on April 24. Whoo hoo--FINALLY one within driving distance. You heard it here first!

Yes, it would be interesting to know who bid the lowest and still got tickets. I said all along that I would bet a really low bid would still get you in, but like others, I wasn't willing to risk doing that. (I paid $113 during the member presale.) I assume that a lot of us left some significant money "on the table," as it were, but since it's a benefit, and since the museum is so great, and since Wilco's ticket prices are generally so reasonable, yadda yadda, I didn't mind the additional expense this time.

I got an email from them today, but I already knew I had the ticket since it was the member presale. Hope everyone who wanted in got in. Also I really hope the museum did well with this auction idea.

Drive-By Truckers tonight in Norfolk at the Norva. Really looking forward to this. I missed them the last time they came to town because of Solid Sound last year.

I've always loved Reservations too, and I've thought of it as a statement of faith in love--messy, complicated, confusing and sometimes contradictory, but ultimately true love wins. I personally think that Jeff's voice on that song perfectly fits the tone. I'm not musically sophisticated but isn't the song in sort of a minor key? Interestingly, Jeff has called this a sad song (I think he said this at the recent Chicago solo show) but I think he's just using shorthand and referring to the melancholy sound of the song, rather than the overall intent of the lyrics.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I had already joined Mass MoCA a while back, thinking it would be a good way to stay on the inside track for future Solid Sound/Wilco events, so I was just balking at the $113 price. But after taking everything into consideration--including the total price for getting there from Virginia, hotels, airfare, car rental, etc.--I decided the ticket price wasn't such a big part of the overall expense anyway. So I bought one at the end of the day yesterday during the member presale and am glad I don't have to wait, biting my fingernails, to see if a bid gets accepted.

I'm not sure where's the best place to post this, so I'm doing it here as well as in the Just a Fan forum. I've got my ticket for Hartford on 8/1 and I really want to do Mass MoCA on 7/31, but haven't got my ticket yet. I'm planning to fly into Providence on 7/30 and rent a car so that I can get to North Adams that evening and spend the next day enjoying the town before the show there on 7/31. Then I would leave the next morning for the drive back down to Hartford for the show on 8/1, and fly home from Providence on 8/2. I'm planning on doing all this alone and would LOVE to find someone t

Wow, I just called the museum box office, since I also am a member, and just for everyone's information, the price of a single ticket for members is $113. No additional fees, but still, $113. For anyone else who has a membership, apparently you have only until 5PM tomorrow (Friday) to buy at this price. After that it's the lottery system, where all bets are off in terms of price and availability. Yeesh--I know it's a benefit and all, but still, this is going to turn out to be a very expensive little jaunt. I haven't bought my ticket yet. What to do, what to do. . . .

Whoo--got sec. D, Row D, seat 208 for Hartford! Now on to the Mass MoCA lottery. . .
-
I'm pretty sure it's not included in the price of the festival itself, though, since that is a 2-day event starting on Saturday. It's the night before, which looks like an add-on. Not saying it isn't still great, but just to avoid any confusion.

I'd suggest trying to call them but I did that earlier today and spent a little over 30 minutes on hold. When someone finally got on the line the only information they could give me was that yes, there is a presale tomorrow at 10:00 Eastern time. I was calling about Hartford on 8/1 but I think the answer would have been the same for any of the shows. And yes, it was Front Gate, of course.

Umm, I thnk that $100,000 bid is a severe case of Wishful Thinking! By the way, there's now presale info on all shows, including Hartford. Just received this from Wilco Ticketing Hello Friends, Below is the pre-sale information for Wilco's recently-announced shows. I hear you, Bosco. And I agree they're being a little disingenuous in the way they're positioning this, but it is a fundraiser, so this will probably net them more money. And for what it's worth, my bet is that a bid in the range of $75 will put you in the top 500.Sure, there will be some big spenders, but I'm betting not more than a handful, leaving plenty of room for the rest of us. What I'm pleased about is that they're apparently not going to award seats up front to the highest bidder--that will be a case of pure democratic "who's going to get in line the earliest". And it's great that i

I forgot about that! Now it seems even funnier that Jeff singled out Randy as the most annoying of the Idol judges. -
Jim Marshall (Marshall amps) RIP
Magnetized replied to Ghost of Electricity's topic in Someone Else's Song
I can't be the only one today who's got these lyrics running through my head: "There's a guitar leaning on a Marshall stack. . . " There was a nice piece on Jim Marshall on the BBC news hour today. I hadn't realized he was British. -
Yes, he was there. I saw a picture posted on some blog.

For anyone interested, the package deal is still available, and for anyone traveling in from out of town who needs to book lodging, I think it's a good deal. GA tix for 2 people, both nights, 2 nights at a great hotel, transportation to and from the venue both nights, 2 posters, 2 t-shirts, and a few other little goodies. They are doing the presale--it started today at noon.
-
Yes, but it also says (under FAQ): This is why I'm confused, 'cause I saw the same thing you posted as well, Hinko. Unfortunately, there's probably no way to figure this out completely before tickets go on sale tomorrow, so I guess it's just going to be taking the leap of faith. My friend and I are in for the package deal, and hopefully there won't be any hiccups getting that. Yowzah! Always wanted to go to Red Rocks, and I can't think of anything much more blissful than this.

The package is not a bad deal if you figure $100 or so for tickets to the two shows, poster and t-shirt maybe $75, shuttle service to and from the venue so no need for a car rental, and lodging for 2 nights at, granted, a way fancier than necessary hotel. But still, for just a little over $500 per person all in, that seems like a pretty decent price.
