  1. While I'd take Manuel singing, the JGB version on the '91 live double CD is pretty phenomenal. I'll pass on the Cocker version though.
  2. I'd definitely put AGiB above LF s/t, but it is much closer than the clear advantage BAitUSA has over SBS in my book.
  3. Fair enough. I do think McCain's need for the evangelicals at this point was the reason Palin was picked over other candidates that have the other qualities you mention. If pandering to the evangelicals was not the top reason, I see a number of other candidates that better align ideologically and represent a decision based on governing rather than election politics, but we can agree to disagree. There's plenty I'm not thrilled about with Obama, but McCain has just totally lost the (great deal of) respect I had for him.
  4. But that base is the evangelical right, no? The fiscal conservatives I know are none-too-happy with the selection. Some of your earlier posts lead me to believe you don't like that the GOP has been hijacked by the evangelical right (correct me if I'm wrong). I, myself, describe myself as a Lincoln republican, but see nothing resembling that in today's GOP. I was hopeful that the nomination of McCain might be a step back in the right direction, but this clearly shows me that is not the case.
  5. Do you think she was chosen to help with the evangelical right that McCain has struggled with? I do.
  6. I don't know what the hell "Alt.Country" is but Steve Earle is on Letterman on Friday. Rawk!
  7. This is ridiculous. I don't care whether Palin's daughter is preggers or anything else. I don't even really care about the seemingly shoot from the hip mentality that got her on the ticket (although that sort of leadership hasn't fared very well for the past 7.5 years). What i do care about is that McCain sold his soul to the evangelical right with this pick. It is pure Rovian tactics and that is not something I wish to see continue. To me, it's not about Palin and her personal life; it is about McCain and his willingness to put election politics above sound leadership and government.
  8. Sorry if it came across as that particular graph was the best way. I was saying that if you want to look at the "race," look to electoral college numbers and not national polls. That is all. I think I was very clear in saying that things change, todays' number reflect post-DNC bump, but not post-RNC bump, etc. As we move forward, electoral races are what matters not that McCain picked up 5,000 votes in Nebraska.
  9. I believe I said this in BOTH of my previous posts. I'm merely stating that the national polls that were being talked about earlier aren't, in my opinion, the best indicator of election results as we have an electoral process. No one is suggesting Obama has it locked up based on today's polling numbers. But to say that McCain has made huge gains in national polls, misses the point that those numbers aren't how Presidents are elected.
  10. Well that's the point. If you look at the forest (the national polls), as you say, it is impressive (and I'm not denying McCain a successful campaign so far). But on an electoral basis, he hasn't really done much. Of course it is early and things will shift, but Obama hasn't lost his strong support in states that add up to almost an electoral victory. Again, that could change, but electorally McCain hasn't really gained much. What he HAS done is make up a lot of ground in battleground states. BUT he still has to win almost ALL of those states as it stands now. A tall order.
  11. As we all know, Presidential elections are decided by electoral votes not the popular vote. National polls just cloud that issue in my opinion. Keeping in mind the post-DNC bump (although it seems to me McCain tanked with the Palin choice more than Obama got a post convention bump), right now (excluding too close to call states) Obama is very close tot the needed 270 electoral votes (2nd graph at the link below). That means that -- provided Obama doesn't LOSE his strong support in some of these states -- McCain would have to virtually sweep the battleground states. We're still a long way off,
  12. I am supporting Obama, but I like my Dead politics free. I love the Garcia quote from when they did the Rainforest Benefit back in '87 though: "Somebody needs to do something. It's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us."
  13. I concur with these fine gentlemen. Pretty Sparks is really the only song on BAitUSA that doesn't really grab me (although I like it). There is only one song I really love n SBS (and a few that I kinda like).
  14. I've always liked Dean Ween's take on it, ""People think that having a song on a commercial is a sellout. They are really underestimating how bad we would sell out if given the opportunity. I don't mean by making sloppy music, but I've been in Ween for 20 years coming up in April and I have like $1,400...We'll play for fucking Coors for two grams of blow. I mean really, I'll dance the fucking jig for $100.."
  15. I've always been happy with George L's.
  16. Yeah, the window design on them (the way the window goes down a bit when you open the door and back up when you shut it) is asking for trouble.
  17. I'm probably not the best one to provide an opinion here because I'm not the huge fan that some are (I have a real problem with some of the overly reverb drenched sounds). But a good (perhaps) description that occurred to me is to think of it like Panda Bear's Person Pitch but with a CSN bent instead of a Beach Boys bent. But again, that's just to my ears and I'm not particularly a fan of either album.
  18. I'd be really surprised if this is true. My fiance has an '06 Mini Cooper and it gets about 35 mpg combined (hwy/city). I have a friend who has a Prius (he runs a solar company so it goes with the job) and he at least claims much better mileage than that. Edie, what broke on your Mini?
  19. Agree 100%. I thought that, while her speech was great, it was very calculating in that it set her up as looking like she is doing all she can for party unity, but I felt she was also very purposefully choosing her words for a possible 2012 run. She talked about either Obama or McCain and on the issues, Obama is better than McCain. But she seemed to take credit for Obama's platform. Also, I never heard her emphatically endorsing Obama as a leader. She more said that his platform was more like hers than McCain's. I dunno, I thought it was a good speech, but she could have done more. I don't thi
