"This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff." - Carl Spackler, Caddyshack "So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the

Technically, the folks who attacked us on 9/11 are dead. True, there is an Al Qaeda presence in Iraq, but that is because we sort of lured them there. I think what Mr. Rain is taking issue with, and rightfully so, is the insinuation from the White House, and Lieberman, that Iraq was somehow involved with 9/11

That would be the naturalistic fallacy, or, the idea that what is found in nature is necessarily good. It is, in part, the basis or justification for Social Darwinism, the belief that helping the poor and sick would get in the way of evolution, which depends on the survival of the fittest. Nowadays, biologists denounce the naturalistic fallacy because they want to describe the natural world honestly, without people deriving morals about how we ought to behave -- as in: If birds and beasts engage in adultery, infanticide, cannibalism, it must be ok.

I just spent the better part of an hour looking, with no luck. They have a bunch of songs up on their myspace page, but, Shot Himself Up is not one of them. I'll ransack my car (where the cd is housed, er, I hope. Am I the only person here with a car full of cd's? It's getting to the point where you'd sort of think I was some sort of horder or something, which, I'm not.) and post a link to yousendit or something or other. Edit: Honestly, my opinion, the songs are similar, but not carbon copies - the riff in question sounds more like the Henry Mancini Spy Hunter theme or whatever it's call

Interesting, as "Hash Pipe" was pretty much ripped off from The Shods song - "Shot Himself Up" - Kevin Stevenson, lead singer is a close friend, and my wife's cousin. From the Throwing Music Message Board: "Before you run out and waste your money on the new Weezer album, I think you should know this. The new single for their new album, cleverly entitled Weezer, is a rip off of a song by Boston/Lowell band the Shods. The song

Yeah, I would be the first to admit his fiction is not for everyone

David Foster Wallace (being interviewed by Larry McCaffrey): I had a teacher I liked who used to say good fiction's job was to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable. I guess a big part of serious fiction's purpose is to give the reader, who like all of us is sort of marooned in her own skull, to give her imaginative access to other selves. Since an ineluctable part of being a human self is suffering, part of what we humans come to art for is an experience of suffering, necessarily a vicarious experience, more like a sort of "generalization" of suffering. Does this make sense? We al

Too funny. I wonder if they would have charged en masse, or, if like countless unnamed ninjas before them, would have allowed their teacher (sensei?) to pick them off one by one. This would have made one sweet YouTube video -
