  1. This may be slightly off, but I happened to be in Monroe WI for the weekend and stopped by the famous Baumgartner's. Had a beer and my buddy thought it would be a good idea to order a Limburger and Red Onion sandwich, for everyone at the table. While I know some people who love that stuff, but I took a bite and turned white as a ghost and nearly lost my stomach. It was by far the grossest thing I have ever put in my mouth.
  2. I was thinking about that. It seems every couple of years this same thing comes up. I remember it when Rush said somethings about McNabb on MNF and Imus, Hank Williams jr, and so on and so forth. Which then begs the question, why do people believe it was a violation? There is so much hate supported through right wing media (worse things have been said then what got Robertson fired). Maybe people on the far right actually think the first amendment also guarantees a forum to say what you want, because they hear it so regularly. Really, I guess where was Jindal and Sarah Palin when Al
  3. At risk of having this thread being moved off the front page, let's talk about Duck Dynasty. Unless you live under a rock or don't have a TV, you know what Duck Dynasty is and what it is all about. Personally I have never watched the show because it looks so stupid. Anyway Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the family said some pretty hateful things about homosexuals in a recent GQ article. In light of that, Phil has been suspended indefinitely form the show. Which in turn, brought several members of the far right (such luminaries as LA Gov Jindal and IRDB's favorite Sarah Palin) to decr
  4. I posted this article before and I think it got lost in your quest on how to respond to me. But I really am interested in how what you think here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-leadership/post/crazy-data-point-of-the-day-how-much-ceo-vs-worker-pay-has-grown/2012/05/11/gIQArUISIU_blog.html And to summarize worker wages has gone up 5.8 % form 1978 to 2011, whereas CEO pay has gone up 726%. Now, I am not saying CEO's or small business owners should be paid the same as their workers. Running a business is extremely demanding and business owners should be fairly compensated for the
  5. Sorry I don't speak in your one line snark. I don't expect my posts to be rhetorical, I am generally interested in what people have to say (unless of course I get bored with the conversation and then I give up). When I ask questions it is my hope they are answered. I often do enjoy a well reasoned post, even when I disagree with the content. I like to see thought around them and an engagement of others. However, Jules your post are pretty much worthless. To me the seem designed to illicit gut reactions and are on par with comments I read on youtube. They really are nothing more th
  6. By that logic anyone who has a job should really be grateful just to be employed. Oh my employer just cut my benefits, decreased my hourly wage and but yet takes no cuts for himself. Well thank you sir I may have another. Shouldn't the employer be grateful to the worker, who without he couldn't buy his Jags and counter tops? Not saying that all of his profits should go back to the workers, but isn't it frustrating when you see your take home page decreasing but yet the top management not sharing in that sacrifice? Take a look at this article. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-lea
  7. All of these anecdotes about my premiums went up/down, sure are interesting to hear, but really not what I was getting at, when I said ACA is actually helping people. It is a proven fact that millions of people will be able to get insurance (those with preexisting conditions) and stay on insurance (people under 26). Also the expansion of Medicaid is helping millions as well. These are good things. But really if all you have to complain about is a failed roll out (which I noted before enrollments are way up in November). Also it appears that 1.2 million people actually now have insurance d
  8. It shocks me that the line from the right is now the GOP got this budget deal down to put the focus on Obamacare. And the dems really wanted a shutdown so people would be distracted by the failings of this socialist albatross that is ACA. This has absolutely no basis in truth and is a stupid statement. It should be considered treasonous for any law maker to desire a shutdown to divert attention. Furthermore, the latest ACA numbers appear to be doing a lot better (I'd provide a link but I am on my phone so look it up yourself). Also, the Right seems to be really hammering on the implem
  9. Anyone care about the budget deal? I haven't had a chance to go into the particulars, but it seems impressive on the outset that something actually got done.
  10. The only person that can tell me to relax is Frankie. It is amusing to me that the right it's really focusing on the handshake rather than the part of Obama's speech where he condemned dictatorships. But that would require actually listening to a speech, whereas it is easier to rant about some snapshots.
  11. They don't, but I doubt the right wing media will make a distinction between Raul and Fidel. Not that in truth there is much distinction. But tomorrow a lot of people will say he shook hands with Fidel at the funeral. Obama's speech btw was pretty good. Got to listen to the whole thing driving to an early morning meeting in Chicago. As for the selfie, that is not cool.
  12. Can't wait for the "outrage" from conservative media over PBO's handshake with Castro at Mandela's funeral.
  13. Why has no one mentioned Christian Bale? Take a look at his IMDB. Is there anything bad on it? The late 90's and early '00s there are some questionable movies (Cpt. Corelli's Mandolin is the only stinker, but I don't think that was his fault). Also I found this, which should be useful for a determination. It takes the average score of all of a peson's IMDB page. http://laserpanda.com/toys/imdb/index.php?show=all It doesn't have everything, and is a pretty shitty website, but it an honest measurable metric. And Ron Perlman is on top. Didn't even think of that guy.
  14. This should be the first, last and only words on the subject. http://youtu.be/CDIGaiNO270
  15. But regardless of that the "fact" you stated still has no basis in the conversation. Just because 50K people signed up for a gambling website and only 700 where able to sign up on a website that was not working is meaningless. It is an oversimplification of what is going on. Reports are that over 100K have signed up through healthcare.gov (this does not include numbers form State run Health Care exchanges which in places like CA are much much greater). But hey it is a lot easier and funnier to through out meaningless numbers. Also the correspondent tweets (and by the way it is sad when
  16. Wow talk about a distorted point. I mean really, this is what you have to offer to the discussion? We all know that Healthcare.gov was not working in October, so that number is meaningless. You are absolutely right. I love the thought process on this comment, though. Instead of either coming out against a minimum wage hike, rather you deflect and say they shouldn't be paid more than members of the armed forces. If the hourly wage for military were lower than the minimum wage, they still receive way more in benefits then most civilian jobs out there. Messing around with this Milita
  17. So it appears that Healthcare.gov is working pretty good now, and a bunch of people are actually signing up and getting healthcare. Also Iran has not used their new found lifted sanctions to build nuclear bombs and blow up us or most of the Middle East. And since the one year anniversary of Sandy Hook is 9 days away, anyone want to turn their thoughts towards the minimum wage? Or rather income inequality in general? FaceBook friend posted this the other day. Really quite surprising, disturbing, and telling. http://www.utrend.tv/v/9-out-of-10-americans-are-completely-wrong-about-thi
  18. I can think of several others, Burn After Reading, Oceans 13, Oceans 12, The Peacemaker, and less you forget he was also did a lot of TV that was not so good, Facts of Life and E/R (not ER this is the 30 min sitcom that ran for 18 episodes) to name a couple. I think the term for anyone who acts is Actor. It is only for awards do they break it down. Kevin Spacey has been in some terrible movies. Especially between American Beauty and House of Cards. I can't really think of a movie in that time frame that I would consider above average. Several below average (K-Pax and Pay i
  19. I am not sure what the big deal is. Does it effect your enjoyment of their music?
  20. Hixter, you are fing with us right? You can clear see that the non talking filibuster has been abused by the GOP. Of course it has been used by the Dems and it was in the rules for a reason to stop the tyranny of the majority. But IRBD's chart shows it has been abused during PBO's presidency. Either you take the 72 (which they got by looking at the number of potential judicial vacancies in the next 3 years and figured the GOP would block all of them, because they really have not shown a willingness to confirm anyone), or take the actual number (which is nearly 4 times as many as during Bus
  21. I actually quite like the rule, I felt it should have been used as a last resort kind of option. It does indeed prevent the majority from steam rolling whatever they want. With that being said, the GOP abused this the rule and did not use it for its intended purpose. The GOP used it out of spite and for no real reason and now they got it taken away from them. As I said I do not like the precedent it has set, which is the long lasting implication of this whole thing.
  22. So a very interesting political thing happened today. The senate voted to change its rules regarding judicial and executive appointees. No longer will a filibuster be allowed, thus ending the gridlock in the Senate. This is also known as the "nuclear" option. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/21/senate-filibuster-reform_n_4316325.html While I am pleased that senate can start moving on many of these nominees and do its job, I worry about the precedent it sets. Namely if you can't get things done within the rules just change them. Now the GOP has backed the Dems in a corner with this
  23. I wish everyone would wear a D or an R on their lapel. That way I would know who to talk to and who not to talk to. It is how I vote and a good model on how to live life.
  24. You know it would be a fair point if she supported tax increases, which she does not. The thing about the GOP is they decry the debt and the horrible things it will bring. But the only way they see to solve our debt crisis is to decrease spending, but really on things they don't like. And it should be noted that government spending is way down under Obama and yet the debt is increasing. So if you believe the deficit spending is bad you have to do a mixture of decreasing in spending and revenue increases (aka taxes). But you will never every see Sarah Palin or any GOPer say that. So reall
