If there is any good that has come from PSH death is that it sheds a light on the terrible growing heroin epidemic. My hope is that something is done about it. My fear is that this will be in the news for another day, maybe two and then forgotten about, until the next famous person dies.

that in itself is weird.
-
Any game in which the first play is a safety can be classified as weird. If you would have told me that Manning would have a record setting 34 pass completions. I would have been pretty sure they would have crushed Seahawks. So in that aspect it seems weird.
-
If the score 17 to 3. I knew the Broncos would score more than 3. Didn't manning get some sort of record for pass completions? What a weird game.
-
Wow, I was sure wrong. But I think you mentioned sacks, which haven't happened.
-
I did not expect this at this juncture

Yeah Bill O'Reilly, lets just ask PBO about the same right wing conspiracy theories, rather than anything of substance. Also I am glad the liberal media decided to have someone so even handed interview the president. I am sure if Rachel maddow interviews the pres, no one would complain.
-
I make no bones about being a progressive and my progressive tendencies. I also make no bones about my dislike and distrust of the GOP and their false outrage and hypocracy. So ran across this piece on Maddow's blog. About the official GOP rebuttal to the STOU. http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/bette-spokane. It points out the ACA horror story used in the GOP rebuttal, was proven to be false with little fact checking. The right have gotten in their mind that ACA is so bad they will run with any story from anyone who says it is bad. Really don't you think you should actually
-
Shit, you are right. Well I always get those two guys confused.

I don't know what it is but the rebuttals of the STOU since Obama have been really f'ing weird To Jindal's channeling of Kenneth Parcell from 30 rock, Ted Cruz Marco Rubio and his amazing thirst, to Michelle Bachmann's crazy eyes. It used to be to highlight the up and comers and now it seems lets put the craziest person we can. The GOP is such a stupid party.
-
Which one? There were five. The "official" GOP response was atrocious. Not necessarily the substance (though I do have some issues) but her tone was just odd. It is tough spot, PBO is a very good orator and McMorris just could not follow it up. As for the SOTU, it was a good speech as speeches go, the regular laundry list of we should do this, we need to that, etc. What was interesting to hear was PBO's plan to get things done via executive order. Many people have a problem with it (and to me it bothersome for the precedent it sets.) But PBO was put into this position because of the

I'll eat my hat if that happens.

didn't mean to point you out as not watching it, I actually quoted your post, but had some others in mind. Back in my post college days, me and my politically inclined buddies would watch it like a football game (beer, snacks, etc.) It was fun.
-
I am really surprised by the level of apathy towards the SOTU. Sure it is political theatre but there is no denying the importance of the speech. Sure it is a bunch of promises that will likely never get fulfilled, but it is an expression of a vision that our president has for our country. Like PBO or hate him he is the president, wouldn't you at least like to hear what he has to say about our country? Furthermore, wouldn't you like to hear the words straight from his mouth before they are distorted by the various talking heads? It is that reason why I think it is important to watch th

It is kinda sad that people don't pay attention to these things. It is the fault of the politicians not using the platform correctly, or not delivering on the promises made. But at the same token, more people should pay attention and hold the politicians accountable for what is said. Apathy is never good for a democracy. Yes it is political theatre, but it sets an agenda, this is what is going to be talked about.
-
So tomorrow is fifth Obama's State of the Union Address. It will be an interesting one for sure. So just wondering if y'all will be watching (and whose coverage). Also wondering if you have any hopes/expectations of the speech. And what about the rebuttals? Apparently the GOP has decided to do 3 different rebuttals to the speech (Cathy McMorris, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul). It is funny to see that there is a need for three different rebuttals. It is indicative of the fragmentation of the right. The GOP official, TEA Party, and whatever Rand Paul is now. Anyway, I of course will be

Why? Denver and Seattle have very similar temps in January/February (high 40s).
-
Richard Sherman effectively took all talk about any other Seahawk off the table for this first week. If Denver effectively holds lynch to an average game (100 yards and a Touchdown) there is no way Wilson will be able to score more than a touch down himself. Also he is the one who will be sacked 4 plus times.
-
I am gonna have to disagree with you on that one. Best defense in the league does not necessarily mean sacks. Let me throw down some knowledge on ya. Manning has been sacked only 18 times this year (tied for 34th in the league), which is at the bottom of QB's that played all 16 games. Denver's O line is nothing to be scoffed at. Passing and offense is not all about the skill positions, a soild O line is what makes Denver so good on offense. Although they have an impressive 44 sacks this year, they only have 6 this postseason 4 of which coming in the San Diego game and Philip Rivers sp

Do you care that Beck has a new album coming out
KevinG replied to KevinG's topic in Someone Else's Song
Really? At least on VC, I couldn't find anything about him (I always do a search before posting a new topic). I guess if I was more of a fan, this media love for Beck wouldn't seem so out of left field, but to me it is. Whenever I discuss about Beck, I always think about Wayne Coyne and him saying that "Beck is a dick" or something. Or at least that is what my college roommate says about him anyway. It is kinda fun to say, syllabically anyways. -
Would you mind voting for my son's violin teacher?
KevinG replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
It is all Lilting Banshee and Nail that Catfish to the Tree here. -
Would you mind voting for my son's violin teacher?
KevinG replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Very cool, I voted for her. Good luck. On a side note (albeit a personal one), how long has your son been playing violin? What kind of music does this teacher focus on? The reason I ask is my son who is 9 has been playing for about two years and we found a really good teacher, who does a combination Suzuki / Fiddle teaching style. He will give his students a Suzuki tune and then "balance" it out with a bluegrass tune. Also he has started a fiddle group with some of the students, which end up playing a small coffee houses and bars (Sunday mornings) a couple times of year. It has gi -
The song that started my discussion with my buddy was Pearl Jam's Even Flow. But then again that would not necessarily be considered a "good" song.
-
Having a similar discussion with a buddy of mine. I would say 95% of all the songs that are considered "good" have some pretty terrible lyrics if you just read them on paper. It is the nature of songs. Lyrics just sound stupid when read.
