  1. You are in the minority I think there. I think the right is overly gleeful at the struggles of the website and would like more then anything to have ACA fail. There will be growing pains, ACA is not perfect, nor has its implementation been perfect. But I find it amusing that all of these people complain that website doesn't work, when they want nothing more then ACA to go away. Obviously the website has the power to look into your heart and realizes you don't deserve a working website.
  2. Why? From what I gather you are against ACA. You should be dancing and cheering that the website doesn't work and 25 million people can't get insurance. That is what you want isn't it? I think every reasonable person knew that there would be issues with the website. Unfortunately the government underestimated the site traffic. BTW I went in today and was able to set up an account successfully. Also if you think website troubles show that ACA is a bad law, you may be couting your chickens before they hatch.
  3. You know what would have been nice, if the GOP instead of at every turn trying to defund, overturn, or generally stymie ACA, is they realized it was a law that was duly passed and upheld by the SCOTUS, and worked to make it better. Not every law is perfect, nor are major reforms implemented easily, but it is so hard to get things right when one side sole purpose is to destroy the very thing you are working for. I also laugh at Jules assertion that it has been 2-3 weeks of ACA.
  4. Yeah, I will dispute it. A couple of things, your failure to locate anyone who signed up for ACA has no baring on the law's success. I can find stories where thousands of people have signed up. http://www.komonews.com/news/local/More-than-9400-sign-up-through-health-exchange-226847151.html But even that really has no baring, either. It appears that when states set up their own exchanges the process has gone much smoother. It is those states that have refused to set up their own exchanges that are having problems. The federal website has not gone good. But a website has never gone do
  5. The Onion always funny. I guess when I said "...alot of people on the right..." I should have said the right wing talking heads. I drove through Iowa Tuesday mid day (along State Hwy 20 from Dubuque to Sioux City) and all I could find was right wing radio (Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Huckabee.) From the way they talked it seemed like the GOP was doing God's work.
  6. I thought it was really weird you quoted something from nearly a year ago? I just wasn't sure what you were trying to get at. At what point now will the pundits start referring to PBO as a lame duck president. I think a lot of people on the right see what the GOP is doing as something noble or really within the legislative process. Instead they are being petulant little babies who are crying because they did not get their way. Regardless if you think ACA is good or bad, it is a law. It has been upheld by SCOTUS. There are ways to deal with laws, but they are seriously damaging th
  7. which is the gold standard in what is funny. BTW you see what Jules has done, he deflected the substance (or point) of the letter and went after its humor. It is a perfect analogy of what the GOP is doing, distilled into terms that is easy to understand. Though to be fair John Stewart did the same analogy with the Giant's game a couple of weeks ago. So it wasn't that original, but the execution was tremendous.
  8. anyone else have any good food blogs that they read. I am partial to The Amateur Gourmet. It is good cause he has some really interesting recipes and thoughts on food. Also he takes photos that are not overly produced and fancy.
  9. regardless if you think it is funny or not, you do understand the analogy right? IMHO if you understand the analogy it makes it funnier.
  10. We have the best healthcare system in the world - John Boehner on Face the Nation July 1, 2012
  11. The "On my Grill Tonight" thread got me realizing it appears there are some people on this board who like to cook and we might as well devote a thread to just cooking in general. I personally love to cook and make and eat food. My cooking philosphy is driven by these four "celebrity chefs" 1) Alton Brown - can show you not only how to cook, but gives you the why and makes it fun. 2) Christopher Kimball (and the Cooks Illustrated staff) - showing relentless testing and tweaking of a recipe can make some really great food 3) Rick Bayless - this man loves food and wants you to love it as
  12. You know what Ryan prolly doesn't care about. What people on the Wilco message board think about what he thinks about country music.
  13. In what way is the cost of ACA mind blowing? Is it the cost of the insurance? The cost to the taxpayer? I don't understand the statement You later story about your finger, points out that the outrageous costs of our current health care system. Your 800 dollar bill was not actually for just you but I am sure it paid for the drunk without health insurance, who got bitten by a raccoon, and skipped out on his bill. The same with the 5 dollar aspirin, etc. OUr current health care system is the very definition of socialism. Those that have are paying for those that don't. ACA makes everyo
  14. Here is a list of all of the government shutdowns and why they happened: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/09/25/here-is-every-previous-government-shutdown-why-they-happened-and-how-they-ended/ So as you can see it has been a political football, but mostly coming from the president vetoing the proposed spending bills, or arguing on spending.
  15. The level of partisanship in the media is outrageous. I love the fact that the GOP is complaining about programs being shutdown, when they themselves causes them to be shutdown. Hypocrisy and hubris at the same time.
  16. decided tonight's grill meal is some skirt steak from Jordandal Farms with udon noodles, grilled mushrooms and bok choy, with a black bean sauce. nice to have a quick cooking meal compared to last week's 9 plus hour pulled pork.
  17. beware of the "stall" last week my butts hit 156 and stayed there forever.
  18. Democrats to introduce a discharge petition to end shutdown. The political nerd in me is loving all of the politics and procedural moves taking place. It will be interesting if the discharge plan works or even gets off the ground. If it does succeed it could really be the final nail in the GOP's coffin. On the other hand, I just wish the GOP would come to their senses and just pass a clean CR.
  19. Wow, someone has a lot of time on their hands, and a lot of misplaced anger. Seriously? This is the level of discord, now? There a lot of things wrong with ACA. But let's bring out the stupidest pointless ones. And by the way with the 1 in there it makes no sense. but yeah ACA is a big fuck you to people.
  20. well this ain't gonna help matters at all. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/03/capitol-lockdown_n_4038560.html
  21. I would guess the divorce. Which is too bad. I really liked him when he played in Milwaukee. But I never thought he was as good as the Tiger's contract said he was.
