And this is why we need to rethink the way we value teachers in this country. If you paid teachers more, the job would become more competitive. The more competitive the less you would have this "skating by" aspect.
-
Our priorities in this country are so out of whack. Yes, it will cost money, but the job they do is so important. I want the best and brightest to be teachers, it can only make things better. Of course reforms will be needed. You know this is just a pipe dream and will never happen, but our school system is a mess. It is a sad commentary when schools have to close because they don't have air conditioning, or teachers have to spend their own money for school supplies. We in this country put such a stress on education but yet continue to take away the the tools for education to be great.

yes, that is true to pay teachers what they are worth would take a boatload of money. Can't argue with that. But there is money out there.
-
It is my opinion that teachers are drastically underpaid. Teachers should be among the highest paid professionals out there. The job they do is far important than most jobs out there. They are more important than any CEO or medical professional. The competition for a tech job needs to be fierce and we need only the best and brightest to become teachers. Teachers should be revered and honored at every chance, not vilified as takers. With that being said schooling for teaching should be hard and rigorous. Teachers that come out of college need to have the tools to mold the minds of child

yes, but what does that matter? http://www.lakelandtimes.com/main.asp?SectionID=9&SubSectionID=110&ArticleID=15195

Which is a shame because in the Big Finish Audio Dramas Paul McGann's Doctor is quite cool.

Broadchurch is one of the best pieces of television I have ever seen. It is smart, compelling, and exceedingly well acted. Watch it.

This is slowly becoming my favorite album this year.

another fun thing with this, is the when you get a permit the signer is held liable for any damage, injuries etc. that occurs. Which wouldn't be all that alarming but the Walker administration also said that the damage to the capitol held during the protest of 2011 were in the millions of dollars when it was only in the thousands.
-
I don't know if you have been following the current state of affairs in WI, but there is an interesting little free speech issue occurring. As you are probably aware 2010 Scott Walker was elected governor of WI. One of the first bills that was pushed through in his term was Act 10, among other things limiting collective bargaining rights of public sector unions. This caused massive protests and a recall election of Scott Walker. The recall ultimately failed. After all of this a small impromptu group has been gathering at the state capitol at noon to sing protest songs. The "Solidarity Si

That is a bunch of pure gobbly gook right there. First off you are comparing a legal transaction with illegal ones. It is illegal to buy cocaine, it is legal to buy an assault rifle. Second possessing a fake ID for the purchase of alcohol or a gun is illegal. So again you are comparing two completely different transactions. Yes anyone with enough money can get what they want does make it legal. And my points while being assertions are fact. Why doesn't any want to answer my questions? 1) In many states it is legal to buy a firearm through a private party sale with out an ID 2
-
It is useless because two sides can't agree on the facts around the debate. It is like two players playing a game with two separate rules.
-
It is true. I have proved it is true. We will never agree that is why the gun control debate is useless.
-
Just wow. I am at a complete lost for words. This is why I find the gun conversation so frustrating. When there are people that just cannot admit to facts there is no chance of understanding. You are being willfully obtuse and it is madding. It really amazes me that you simply refuse to admit that you can buy a firearm through a private sale without an ID legally. So congratulations, sit in your world with your own facts and go on with your guns. I am done with you and this gun thing. But remember you are the one who flat out refuses to admit a simple fact. Sad really for someon
-
Why can't you actually admit to yourself and be truthful that these statements are true? 1) Through PRIVATE PARTY SALES you can buy a firearm without an ID, LEGALLY 2) In most states you have to show a valid form of ID to vote Why is that hard to admit?
-
Your ability to leave out key information from your statements is amazing. Nuclear weapons are illegal to own or sell. You can buy a firearm without an in A PRIVATE PARTY SALE LEGALLY. Comparing those two things makes absolutely no sense.
-
I really wonder if actually read the article or are you willfully ignoring the main point? What the Salon article states, several times, is you can buy a firearm without an ID through a PRIVATE PARTY SALE. You always need an ID to vote. Simple as that.
-
From what I understand, currently if you are felon you cannot register and purchase a fire arm. However if that same felon sets up an organization or trust that Entity can get registered to "own" a fire arm. So if this loophole where closed would that not prevent a felon from purchasing a gun legally. Yes this is not going to deter crime, but it is something that will keep some people who shouldn't have guns from having guns. Is it going to infringe on your rights as a gun owner? Though I don't know why I am even asking.

Ran across this today from Salon.com. Apparently I am not the only one who thinks Clinton was telling the truth. http://www.salon.com/2013/08/29/clintons_line_was_true_the_sad_facts_about_assault_weapons_and_voting/ So if the line is so untrue, can you let me know why it is untrue. I think the article make a pretty compelling case for the validity of the statement.

In this country is it harder to vote now then it was in 2008? Are there more voter ID laws and restrictions to early voting? I don't care what you think if the laws are just and necessary, but you clearly have to admit it is harder to vote. Also do you have a problem with the two new gun control measures PBO is suggesting? Curbing the import of military style weapons and requiring members of a Trust or Organization to pass background checks etc to own gun. Seems sensible to me, but I am sure there is a problem with it.

I was on vacation last week and missed the news that my favorite author (Elmore Leonard) had died last week 8/20/13. Not only did Leonard write some great crime fiction (Cuba Libra, Maximum Bob, and Rum Punch being my favorites) his works are responsible for some great movies such as Out of Sight, Jackie Brown (Rum Punch), Get Shorty, 3:10 to Yuma, etc. Also his short story Fire In the Hole spawned one of the best TV shows on the air, Justified. Here is a nice piece from NPR's Scott Simon on the man. http://www.npr.org/2013/08/24/214864797/remembering-elmore-leonard-a-writer-who-hat

You understand the nature of rhetoric right? Did he say in America it is easier to buy a gun then it is to vote? No he did not. He said a great democracy does not make it harder to vote than to buy an assault rifle. You said that statement is not based in fact and was hot air. Factually we are making it hard to vote. So the statement (which is an opinion) has a basis in fact. It maybe hot air but still factually accurate. You may not like what he said, you may disagree but the statement that it has no basis in fact is misleading and wrong.
-
You may not agree with what he said, but to say it has no basis in fact is ridiculous. In this country we have made it harder for people to vote, if you agree with the current crop of voter laws or not, in this country we have put obstacles to let people vote. This is simply a fact. Whereas it might not be easier to buy an assault weapon we have made it harder to vote. So just wondering other then a then the guttural reaction you gave, why do you think this this hot air with no basis in fact?

And a congress that is so hell bent on stopping him at every turn.

Since on this board we can't agree what constitutes rich and poor, I don't think that will ever happen. I am all for the President's plan to make college more affordable for all.
