The sheer number number of amazing people on Deadwood that went on to other great shows is simply mind boggling.

There is an important distinction between what Cruz did and Wendy Davis' filibuster. One was an actual filibuster and one was political grandstanding. The media comparisons are apt.

Any thoughts on what Ted Cruz is doing? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/25/senate-obamacare-vote_n_3987726.html I see it as political grandstanding with no real point. He is not blocking a vote, he is not urging his colleagues to reconsider their position, he is not talking policy, he is just talking. I don't know if it is just because he likes his voice or what. What really is his purpose here? I think he is doing more harm to his cause, wasting time and giving the House little opportunity to counter whatever the Senate offers. The metaphor of a child holding his breath un

Jesus that finale was terrible. Just freaking terrible. Worst finale of any show I have ever seen. Terrible, terrible terrible.

TEA party stands for Tax Enough Already.
-
Unfortunately, she is a big name in the TEA party. Her words and statements still carry a lot of weight in the TEA party circles. She is often seen as the de facto leader of the TEA party. So when you have someone making these statements and some of them so blatantly wrong it is important to point them out. I think people will move on from Palin when she herself shuts up or she becomes even more of a joke than she already is. But until then if she wants to put out political fundraising emails and urge people to call their representatives she better have her facts straight or be prepared t

I answered calls in a Senator's office. I can tell ya, it really doesn't mean a whole lot, other than a check mark in a log. Sarah knows this too.

The only reason to let Dale Sveum go is to get Joe Girardi. The Cubs product is not the manager's fault, he is not been given the talent to win more than 60 some games. The Cubs are still 2-3 year form being good (and really good at that). Though to be fair something has to be done about Castro. Castro should be hitting like .290 plus but only a paltry .240. If you can't get him back on track it is time to make a change at manager.

so there is sentiment in Palin's comments and the GOP in general that if the Senate does not pass the spending bill from the House it is the Democrats and PBO that is a fault. Really? That is how they are playing this? Is there anyone that thinks that is true? Yes on the surface that may appear to be true, but really a ridiculous thought. Hubris at the highest order.

Yep, the debt ceiling, shutting down the government, these things should not be played with, (and I reiterate everything Mr. Heartbreak says) Voting for the repeal of ACA, 40 some odd times, while stupid and pointless would not put our country in serious jeopardy. So I asked the question, so why harm the country in this way? Do they really think the law will harm the country more than playing with the debt ceiling and our fragile recovery? I seems to me the ACA is more a fund raising tool and being against it will put more money in your coffers and play to a radical base. Just thi

10 days, ok not the time to panic, but the time to be concerned. http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2013/09/government-shutdown-getting-much-more-likely/69561/ But the hubris on the part of the GOP to try to defund ACA as a part of this. Or to use the debit ceiling as bargaining chip to get rid of ACA. This is what get's my goat. ACA is not perfect, but it is law. It just seems to me that the GOP are acting like little children holding their breaths until they get what they want.
-
well our Congress is at it again. We are 10 days from a government shutdown and the GOP contingent is adding a measure to de-fund ACA in any spending bill to keep the government going. So the Affordable Care Act is really that bad they you are risking a full government shut down? Really I know the GOP doesn't like it and think it is bad, but is really that bad? To completely screw over the country. Just imagine if the Democrats put in a measure to ban all assault rifles. The GOP would go ape-shit. So good job Congress, good job.

Sounds like they will play something in Minneapolis, or at least that is what Paul told a fan. http://blogs.citypages.com/gimmenoise/2013/08/will_the_replacements_play_a_reunion_show_in_minnesota_paul_westerberg_video.php

guns and money
-
that is implied. So you are ok with people getting shot and dying as long as the government doesn't turn you into a "felon" (whatever that means).
-
screw it. I just typed out a sound and well reasoned response on this gun debate. I then re-read it and deleted it, because it is just a waste of time. No one's mind is going to change and it will just get me all riled up, with the obtuse nature of both sides of the argument really. This is my prediction, this will be debated for another week or so, then we will move on to something else. Then in 4 months time someone else will shoot somebody else (or many people) and then we will talk about it again. People will get all keyed up and then it will die again. Nothing will get done. Peop

In his remarks about this incident President Obama said this: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57603344/obama-urges-congress-to-act-in-wake-of-mass-shooting/ Which is about as true as a statement I have ever heard from a politician. A shooting will happen, people will comfort the victims, one side will push for gun control the other side will push back, it will lose steam and then repeat the whole thing over and over again. We live in a world were mass shootings are a part of lives and they will continue for the foreseeable future. I have become resigned to that fact. Nothing wil

no what she did was right and justified.

And unfortunately I can't imagine Cranston playing any other role. Had a large discussion with my brother on why Bryan Cranston would not be good as Lex Luthor. My chief reason was that is is absolutely brilliant as Walt, it would make Lex Luthor look like a parody. I have a small hope that after Breaking Bad is done, Bryan Cranston does no interviews and just walks off into the sunset and is never heard form again. He is so perfect I feel that anything else he does will pale in comparison and ultimately tarnish the shear beauty that is Walter White. But I am selfish that way.

So a deal has been reached between the US and Russia in regards to Syria. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/14/us-russia-agree-deal-o_n_3925636.html So do you think it will work? For those of you actually care out our standing in the world, does this completed (successful?) diplomatic option help our hurt our credibility? Do you think now PBO and congress can no start focusing on not shutting down the government in a couple of weeks. Cause it is looking more and more likely that it will. http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-09-11/a-government-shutdown-just-became-more-li

Yep. Really why do we have to be the policemen of the world? All it does is waste our resources and make people pissed off at us.
-
I don't like to double post but I had another thought on this statement in particular. So are you afraid of an attack by another country or another terrorist group or what is the point here? Terrorist groups are going to plan an attack on us no matter how we strong or weak we look in our foreign policy. It only matters how strong we are at home to stop and defend it. Bombing or lack of bombing Syria has nothing to do with that. Who cares what other countries think? F them all, we got our own shit to deal with here.
-
But again, what does that matter? Maybe it is a good thing. Maybe every time there is some little skirmish half way around the world we won't have to use our money and our solider's lives to stop it. Maybe it is time we stopped being the policemen of the world and become the neighbors and maybe the rest of the countries will realize we are in the shit all together and the US is not there to always help.

Wow, I guess I am in the minority here thinking this album is Neko's absolute best work. It is densely layered and exceedingly dark without succumbing to its own weight. I found an interesting article, not so much about the album (though there is a review at the end), but about the new alt-folk bands that have been popping up in the last couple of years (Avett Bros, Mumford and Sons, Lumineers, etc.) and what they can do to learn from acts like Neko Case and Richard Buckner. Interesting read http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/music_box/2013/09/the_lumineers_and_mumford_sons_what_they_c

I trust in Gilligan, that is for sure. I can't think of one bad episode.
