  1. I wonder how much more play a story like this is going to pick up. I see Huffington Post picked it up, but beyond that nothing (yet). I skimmed the article, it seems like some damning stuff, but nothing illegal. LouieB is right, it ain't gonna change anyone's mind. It is funny though, the rights attacks on PBO are rooted in half truths or down and out lies. Whereas the attacks on RR seem to a bit more truth behind them.
  2. Agreed. I laugh at all of these ads blaming PBO for the economy, etc and they tend to leave out the far that the GOP has blocked most any measure. I would also have to say beyond Gover, absolute worst thing to happen to the republican party is the rise of social conservatives in the 80's.
  3. Meaningless? Granted it won't be like every law passed by the GOP will be straight from the platform. But the platform is the core beliefs of the party. It is the goals on how they want to govern, not how they will govern. If you are a member of a party you have to at least acknowledge that a platform is the core beliefs of your party.
  4. The GOP is strictly antiabortion, even in the case of rape and incest. As show by the official Republican Party Platform of 2012. http://thecaucus.blo...party-platform/ I am glad the republican party is so focused on the economy. Yes I know this wasn't the only thing in their platform, but compounded with the Todd Akin comments this puts another spotlight on what the GOP is all about. The GOP doesn't care about fiscal responsibility, deficit spending, and all the other BS out there. They want to push their moral agenda. ***Update*** found this link with more highlights of the GOP
  5. Correction on my previous post it appears that the new season will start on Sept 1st rather than the 8th (per the Doctor Who Facebook page). Which is weird, since there is 20 weeks or so between now and Christmas, and I thought they were going to show 5 episodes this year with the 5th being the Christmas episode. So unless they will be showing one every 4 weeks (which would suck) there is going to be some long breaks in there (which also sucks).
  6. Out of all the parks I have been to, Kaufman was the best (post improvements). In terms of price, views, stadium amenities, food. It was all around the complete package. It really is a gorgeous place to watch a game. It is unfortunate that the baseball is not very good there.
  7. New season starts (on BBCAmerica) September 8th. The BBC has not announced a date for the UK, but it will probably be the 8th or before. http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/08/doctor-who-episode-701-asylum-of-daleks_20.html
  8. Wrigley Field (Chicago Cubs) Miller Park (Milwaukee Brewers) County Stadium (Milwaukee Brewers) Turner (Atlanta Braves) Target (Twins) Metrodome (Twins) Coor's Field (Rockies) Camden Yards (Oriels) Kaufmann Stadium (Royals) Citizen's Bank Park (Phillies) I have been to too many minor league parks to even count.
  9. The guy behind it all is Grover Norquist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grover_Norquist He came out with the Tax Payer Protection pledge. Which in part pledges anyone who signs it to: This is very big in the TEA party and was one of the driving forces to the GOP/TEA party surge in 2010. 238 of 242 House republicans and 41 of 47 senate republicans have signed the pledge. Those that have signed the pledge have held firm. It is seen by many as the main reason for the obstructionist ways of the GOP. It is also away to have a single issue that defines a candidate. I am not sure if the GOP i
  10. There is only one party that has come close to that line of thinking and it ain't the GOP. The GOP has been taken over since the mid 80's by the religious right (so you are not gonna get any rational debate on abortion or marriage equality). And in recent years Gover Norquist and the TEA party has taken any real chance of sane tax reform off the table. And with the GOP being pushed so far to the right, it pushes the Dems to left and the cycle continues to divide the country.
  11. I agree with bleedorange, this conversation has gotten ridiculous. People hear what they want in music, some can divorce an artist with their politics some cannot. So anyone want to turn the conversation to rape and abortion? This is what Mo. Republican Senatorial candidate Todd Akin said on the subject of rape and abortion: Maddow had some interesting things to say about this and the relationship with Akin has with Ryan. http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2012/08/20/13375158-the-larger-significance-of-todd-akins-ridiculousness?lite There are a couple of things that really struc
  12. Is it bad of me to think that Paul Ryan's love of RATM is probably solely limited to "Bulls on Parade?" I mean he probably has Evil Empire on his iPod, but "Bulls on Parade" probably get's him pumped up when he does his P90X.
  13. As cool as it would be, I don't think the Reds are going to the World Series.
  14. It is a pretty tricky situation here. Since Citizens United corporations are protected under the first amendment and we don't want to start taxing speech. Really Citizens United needs to be overturned, in order to have any affect on campaigns.
  15. Stewart talks about Voter ID. Pretty much what I think is the biggest problem in this upcoming election. I do see the GOP trying to steal the election, or at least try to make it easier for their side to win. It is pretty sickening. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-august-16-2012/daily-show--democalypse-2012---cockblock-the-vote?xrs=playershare_fb
  16. For a fun dinner head to the Safe House. It is a spy themed restraunt it is by the river walk area
  17. Apparently Jules is right not to care anymore, because Obama is a freaking wizard! Or that's what FoxNation wants us to believe is the agenda of the AP. http://nation.foxnews.com/president-obama/2012/08/15/ap-does-it-again
  18. So this 700 billion the GOP is screaming that Obama "cut" from Medicare, really not the case. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/15/paul-ryan-medicare-debate_n_1785454.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009&utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false The fundamental fact is that Obama wants to keep Medicare for everyone, whereas RR wants to change it to a private voucher system. The GOP has consistently lied and twisted the words of the president in this debate.
  19. Yeah it is funny when a Dem is control all of these GOPers tend to spend like drunken sailors. But now, we have to tighten the purse strings. Oh and now lets cut NPR and the NEA, cause that will balance the budget. The sole economic plan of RR is to cut programs for the poor (and now middle class) and let the wealthily have huge tax breaks. And the plan is all based upon some fuzzy math.
  20. I am not saying you are guaranteed to have zero in SS if you managed it yourself. But you have to realize there is a possibility of it happening and if that happened to a lot it would be disastrous. Right now you will have social security when you retire (we both could find articles stating each of our opinions, I am going to say it is solvent you can say it will be gone). I will say it again and I think GoGo said it as well. SS is a socialist program, it takes money from those that are currently working and pays those who are not. The money you pay in every month goes to pay gramma an
  21. This is what got the last thread closed. Do I think all conservatives are racists? No absolutely not. Are there more racists that identify as conservative then that identify as liberal. Yes, yes I do. (when I originally said all conservatives are racists I was trying to make a point about stereotypes, but the thread got closed before I could respond so I let it go.) I honestly think Joe's comments where not meant to describe enslavement of anyone. He was saying that the RR budget wants to unchain (i.e. remove governmental restrictions) on Wall Street and Banks, and chain (or put restric
  22. But the larger point is that there are people out there that actually believe that's what Joe meant. I was listening to Rush today (not sure of who his guest host was) but he was going off like it was true, that Joe thinks RR want to enslave all back people. The partisan rhetoric has gotten out of control.
  23. Yeah not so much. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57493319-503544/joe-biden-clarifies-in-chains-remark/ Admittedly it was a stupid thing to say, but it was a misspoken turn of a phrase. Joe is known for those. If you honestly believe that Joe think R&R want to enslave blacks then you are just a plain silly ideologue. But this is what this campaign has turned into, any little thing, any misstep is over blown by the media, internet and the talking heads on TV. Obama is gonna have gaffes, Joe is gonna have gaffes, Mitt is gonna have gaffes. Ryan is not gonna have gaffe
  24. The surefire way to make sure social security is not there in 30 years is to "privatize" it or allow people to manage it themselves. The current social security tax rate is 4.2%, not that much. There are options for people who want to use the stock market for retirement (401K) why not use that?
  25. So give people the option and another financial crisis hits. Your investment guy fails, you end up losing all of it. Millions of others lose all of it. Think of the havoc that is going to bring down on the system. You will have people millions and millions of old poor people who will need other forms of government assistance. If you think paying for social security is hard and messy imagine that. You have the option to put away money form your paycheck into a retirement fund, what is wrong with that? What is the problem with having a small safety net beyond your savings? Social secu
