  1. Yep, get yourself a programme that records sound and just record it off playback. Simple! I use one called Sound Tap. Works well.
  2. Agreed. 'Highly Suspicious' sounds like Cheap Trick or some crap 80's hair band. Not quite sure where they're going with that, but the rest of the new stuff sounds very nice. More electronic/hip hop beats and very soulful - touch of the Marvin Gaye's about it.
  3. Those New Puritans eh? Saw them supporting BSP last month in the UK- not bad, though their name betrays the fact that they're gonna sound like The Fall (and Gang Of Four IMO) And talking of The Fall, saw them the other night. Mark E Smith never cesaes to amaze really, out on his own, a true orginal, but he looks asthough he'll be dead sooner rather than later. Old, booze ravaged and ill. But 'Reformation' was brilliant.
  4. It was taped I know that but haven't seen it anywhere.
  5. Seem to remember Glenn telling me in Dublin that he didn't think it would be this year.
  6. Not having a go here in the slightest. Just what I hear.
  7. Okay, have only heard first few songs, but what I have heard doesn't match up to the residency night two matrix.
  8. Have listened to this recording and have to admit that it doesn't sound like a soundboard matrix, the vocal seems too distant and there's not much depth. Anyone shed any light? Comparing it to the Residency matrix it doesn't stand up so well. Could it be a matrix of two aud recordings? Sounds like it, either that or the soundboard part is buried way too low in the mix.
  9. Hmmm, have listened to this and have to confess it doesn't sound like a soundboard matrix. Vocal sounds too distant to be off the board, sounds more like a matrix of two AUD recordings.
  10. Bloody hell! What's wrong with converting FLAC's to WAV and then putting them onto Ipod. That's what I do. No quality lost, the only downside is each show is near on a GB of space used up.
  11. In case you didn't spot it in the 'After The Show' section, Val Air Des Moines gig is up as a matrix on etree with great setlist.
  12. Very nice recording of this on etree. The new songs sound wonderful. Hope they get across the pond to UK some time over the summer.
  13. My Flac Frontend programme doesn't want to know either. Tells me the files are not flacs when they are! Have tried to right click the files and change the cap F to a lower case f but it won't let me. When I right click it just tells me '01 -Track -01' and so on but no mention of Flac in the title. Then when I call it into Frontend for decoding it IS listed as Flac in the title '01 Track -01.Flac' (with a capital F) but from there it can't be changed. Anyone help? ps I can play the files are they are through Wavepad via windows Media Player but can't convert them to WAV for Ipod etc.
  14. In answer to your question I don't dislike the record, I just find it a little bland, and in all honesty I don't think the tunes are Tweedy's best. I had the good fortune to talk to him about it for a little while in Dublin back in November and mentioned that the response had been lukewarm and he seemed a little taken aback. He told me he thought it was some of his best work, and I can see what he means in terms of it being 'accomplished'. I suppose it's because the regular Wilco audience wants the band to go to new places and be 'challenging' and in terms of the overall sound and feel of the
  15. Sorry, thought you were referring to Chicago shows. The NPR show is not that great I don't think, so the audience stuff may well be better.
  16. Yes I'd say without a doubt the FM stereo version on etree (bt.etree.org) of the fourth night of the residency sounds best. Note there's also a mono version up there which is not as good. But that's not saying it was necessarily the best show. Night 3 on the Monday was great as was night 2 but these are audience recordings (still very good but not quite as dynamic)
  17. Great film even if you don't like Wilco. Bonus discs also very watchable with Magazine Called Sunset etc and very touching live peformnace in that empty hall of Pieholden Suite. Sweet indeed.
  18. Hi Welsh Rich, You must have been in the photo pit with me at Koko if it was you who took those photos. Some slow shutter speeds there, it was practically pitch black the whole show and with no flash for the permitted first three songs nigh on impossible to get anything decent. You did well. I was fortunate enough to stay in the pit the whole show sitting in front of the barrier/rail so had a fantastic view right in front of Ben. First time I've seen them and was surprised how 'country' they were, which is a good thing in my book. Look forward to seeing them at Shepherds Bush on July
  19. Not disagreeing with that at all. I have torrents of all the nights and theyre all good. However 'professional' recordings tend to have the edge given the access they have. Would love to get hold of the webcast from the final night - listened to some of it live here in the UK middle of the night and it sounded fantastic. I know its compressed and all that but if there's one thing that the soundboard/webcast recordings have that the audience ones don't it's the 'closeness' of the recording. The vocal in particular on the aud reordings is that litle bit more 'distant' for obvious reasons. Bu
  20. 'Double Fantasy' is shite. Utter tripe. 'Nuff said.
  21. No? Then you've just contradicted yourself
  22. Agreed, thought the sound was good for Sunken Treasure but then gets worse. The stereo version of the WXRT broadcast from night 4 of the Riviera Theatre residency is the best quality recording available I reckon. It's up on etree.
  23. Well, to me YHF and AGIB are 'alternative' albums and SBS is more 'classic rock' or 'AOR' which could be interpreted as nudging middle of the road territory. To my mind most discerning Wilco fans listen to 'alternative' music by choice, hence the lukewarm response to SBS. And another thought, Tweedy is in a mellow place these days in contrast to the demons and turbulence of old. And history tends to show that the best rock music comes from dark places/troubled souls. Happiness brings a dearth of creativity, no?
