  1. Says who? Tonight's movie on Lifetime? The latest drunken rehab autobiography? It's simply bullshit. I have personally and seen many creative bursts come from an uncluttered life, from peaceful, contented people.

What you say is blather. Nothing more.

    actually it is science

  2. Check out the Wilco Archive; show from 10-29 1997.. Jeff said something about "I'm glad this is an all ages show so I can cuss".. And then he cussed up a storm the rest of the show. Hilarious stuff actually..

Not trying to make a point or anything, your post just made me think of that.

While I don't want Jeff to return to his boozing, toking, pill popping days (disclaimer) his unpredictability during those shows is hilarious.

  3. edgy-

via chicago- dreaming about killing your wife

she's a jar- not beating your wife

ashes of american flags- taking on the popular sentiment of your country's manifest destiny during a time of war

war on war- speaks for itself and time of war

shot in the arm- being so fed up that you are prepping a needle

on and on and on- opening yourself to the public about a recent death and death in general, that takes guts

and musically, using the experimental jazz notion of putting people on edge, much like Bitches Brew

  4. The whole "tension" argument is pure fanzine pap. It's something so-called rock afficianodos babble about when they can't come up with honest criticism on what's actually on the grooves. It's spin, the "tortured soul" struggling for his/her music. People can create art working through their pain, but if they're not working through their pain, it doesn't make any difference what sounds they put out, and to critique their absence as woes as not living up to your standards, that is behavior less than human. Wishing someone struggles, or throwing musicians together like bugs in a jar, and giving it a shake to have them entertain you is the sickest, silliest crap. Shame on you.

I think it relates to life in general...w/o proper amounts of stress, eustress specifically, the mind/body will not perform to its ability. Sometimes negative forms of stress enable mind/body to strive beyond perceived capacity- creativity is enhanced.

equilibrium is pretty boring....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm; kind of like the droning noise on AGIB song #8 or whatever that is.

  5. Define edge. An addicted puking sick Jeff? Tense rivalry within the band, arguing about the drum in Heavy Metal Drummer? Edge seems like a generic term.

I don't think you can blame Jeff's migraines entirely on Jay Bennett. That ain't fair to do someone. Jay (the scapegoat)

  6. Yes, Nels appreciates a steady paycheck. Yes, Nels like creativity and it might be time to fly. Glenn needs to hang out w/ people his own age; forget these old fogies. It's time for John and Jeff to move out to the sticks and write a country album. The Flying Burrito Bros. revisited.

  7. Maybe they leaked it to gather a critique from the fervent fans. So far they have gleaned:

    1) it is the best Wilco album ever cuz it's, like, a mix of everything they've done so far

    2) it is not produced very well

    3) even though it is not produced well, it is still good

    4) where is Nels? Glenn?

    5) it's kind of short in length

    6) they better ask Harrison if they can use his bit

    7) they better footnote the one song with reference to "on and on an on"

    8) I am not that fond of it, but I am just one person, so forget me.

  8. HAHA...yes I didn't buy any beer in there because of it, but they had these areas where you had to stay whilst drinking a beer.

    that sucks...talk about control.

My two best beer experiences w/ Wilco shows have been:

KC Crossroads- 8 kinds of good beer to the left, 8 kinds of good beer to the right, or go inside and choose from 30 taps.

Tulsa Cains- 6 pack of cans for a decent price. Get a 6er, go watch the show. Awesome.

  9. KK was excellent. It was just him, an acoustic guitar, his harmonicas, and his songs/stories. It's hard to believe he is 72 years old. He has a very commanding stage presence. His voice sounded excellent. A few times in the middle of a song he noticed he had the wrong harmonica and made sure to let us know, once humming the harmonica part instead. It appeared he is battling a cold, as he frequently blew his nose into a handkerchief. He kept apologizing for it, remarking, "You didn't pay all this money to see an old man blow his nose." He hit the stage sharply at 8:00pm, so make sure you are there when your tickets say the show starts. He basically played The Essential Kris Kristofferson with songs from This Old Road, A Moment of Forever, and some new stuff he's working on sprinkled in. Made some political comments here and there. Played straight through for a little over an hour and a half. Came out and played a three song encore. All in all a wonderful evening.

Cool, looking forward to Friday. No comments about Koby Teeth?

  10. Ouch.

I'm going to see him this weekend. I've been on a huge KK kick as of late. Spooky Lady's Sideshow, Kristofferson, The Silver Tongued Devil and I, and Jesus Was a Capricorn are pretty amazing albums in my humble opinion.

Please pm or post a review. Next Friday for me. Getting pretty stoked about it. Saw Bruce in Tulsa Tuesday and KK is next.
