  1. fair enough... wasn't saying you claimed it was the most amazing thing ever, just sharing my thoughts and yeah, Bixby is decent, at least compared to some of the weaker songs. i'm not too big on Ice Is getting Thicker though, sort of a dull way to end the record. at the end of that song i was shocked that it was over (and not in a good way)
  2. i'd have to disagree somewhat i think... first listen i thought it was hit or miss... second listen, it's way more miss than hit. there's only 3 truly great songs on here (Long Division (easily the best song on the record), Cath, Your New Twin Sized Bed (still a HORRENDOUS title though). these songs are just bad: Talking Bird You Can Do Better Than Me Pity and Fear (those drums/percussion wreak 1980's Genesis/solo Phil Collins) and the rest are either just ok or pretty neutral for me at this point. musically it's interesting at times, but i'm not big on a lot of Ben's vocal performan
  3. god damn that setlist is great
  4. it was prefaced as being a US tour a few months ago, so we'll see i guess
  5. pretty sure this IS a N. American tour announcement on Monday...
  6. me too... sounding pretty decent so far, still not too big on the single at all though edit: Talking Bird studio is just as boring as the Daytrotter live version was
  7. pretty sure that actually was done by the same guy who did the fantastic artwork for Shut Up I'm Dreaming:
  8. it's just terrible and not in an awesome way. this fanmade one is way better:
  9. the new Wolf Parade... and yes, horrendous horrendous artwork
  10. like take Death Cab... i don't think they sold out by signing to Atlantic whatsoever, it's just a coincidence that their worst album to date was also their major label debut... (or so i tell myself, we'll see with Narrow Stairs...)
  11. so pissed they're not coming back to Minnesota... his show in 2002 with Neko Case (post-poned from Sept '01 after 9/11) was one of my fave shows ever
  12. actually this is one case where i'd agree that them "selling out" hurt their music, that last record was awful. and the person above is right... when it changes a band and band members personality for the worst, that's not very good, which in their case it did same thing happened with Anti-Flag after they signed to RCA (even though their records had been going downhill for a while prior) i agree that the whole "Sold Out" phrase is overused today, but that's not to say there aren't plenty cases where it's accurate in the past. if you've never been part of a punk or ktight nit scene of sorts
  13. yeah... it's really hard for me to seperate the two, even if there's only 2 original members left i guess... it's not that i dislike them now, i just have a hard time getting that excited about it, whereas for a while there they were pretty much the premiere hip hop act for me. you're right though, compared to most mainstream stuff, the Roots are still top notch, can't deny you that
  14. well, Game Theory up until this point was my least favorite Roots album minus Organix... so there you go... their post '00 records have been solid, but don't compare for me. i prefer when they were just kinda ripping off Stetsasonic honestly, they've adopted a lot of the things i hate about mainstream rap/hip hop since Phrenology (which save for a few songs was still a killer album, their last truly great record for me). i'd say their peak was definitely from '95 to '00 and most of their live shows i've seen post '03 haven't been even remotely as good (still top notch as far as live hop go
  15. fuckers need to just stop with the guest spots, they don't sell records, contrary to popular belief. this is the first Roots record i outright have no interest in buying. granted the last 2 weren't amazing, but still worthy of my $$.

    Spoon

seriously... i haven't noticed a big variation between the crowds @ Wilco & Spoon shows over the last few years.
  17. i'd imagine their full fall US dates for late August-October will be announced sometime soon here
