  1. :/ that show is a top 5 show of all time for me
  2. i kind of wonder if Jim's forwarning about the record maybe taking some people off guard or having to take a while to sink in was mostly based on those first 3 songs being 3 of the 4 more "experimental" songs on the disc as that's what people will all hear right away when they listen to this album. but yeah... i didn't expect it to be THIS good honestly... i'm not gonna say it's an amazing record yet, but it only solidifies their already stellar catalog
  3. man that performance with Yo La Tengo kicked major ass!
  4. besides Highly Suspicious, which is this albums "Into The Woods", it's a fantastic record. tracks 4-12 are stellar and all very much classic sounding MMJ minus maybe Remnants, which rocks hard. is it as amazing as At Dawn? hell no... i don't think they'll ever touch that one songwriting wise... it was a completely different band then, only 2 people who played on that album remain in the band today. I'm enjoying this more than Z right out of the gate though, and could possibly see it surpassing It Still Moves (which while it has higher highs, isn't as consistently great). i think starting off
  5. prolly similiar to the band i saw at the 400 Bar in Mpls in December i'm guessing
  6. i saw the Pixies 4x on the reunion tour (the very first 2 shows back and latter on the fall tour), it was very much noteworthy musically. in fact they often played better than they did back then (which i'm betting the Mats' most certainly would too, all things considered)
  7. great band/record saw them a few weeks ago, new stuff doesn't quite work as well live for the most part though, but still very good live band.
  8. i'd obviously go if it happened, but part of me kinda hopes it doesn't
  9. god, i've always thought Scott Shriner was a douche, but that confirms it
  10. yes i have... and yes they played quite a bit those 3-4 years... but in the grand scheme... compared to other bands who were around nearly 10 years, they didn't play a LOT of live shows, and didn't have the reputation as a live band, that's all I was getting at. but even during those first 4 years, i've seen way more grueling touring schedules over the last 20 years than that.... like way way more. this is totally true...
  11. robots dude... robots but no, i kinda agree... i mean i LOVED Daft Punk in college from '97 to '99, but haven't cared for much else they've done since
  12. RADIOHEAD TO APPEAR ON "LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN" IN "GREEN PERFORMANCE" WEDNESDAY APRIL 23 Band's Exclusive Pre-Taped Performance Greener Than Live Appearance NEW YORK - April 17, 2008 - One of the biggest bands in the world, Radiohead, will make an exclusive appearance on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" Wednesday April 23 (12:35-1:35am ET). The band - who made their network television debut on "Late Night" and were O'Brien's first-ever musical guest in 1993 -- has recorded an exclusive live performance from their critically acclaimed and record-industry-paradigm-shifting re
  13. haha well, Chuck did this speaking event here on Saturday over in St. Paul, called the Fakebook. they pair up authors/musicians/etc. with musical performers and it's basically a live talk show w/ musical performances. past ones included Chuck Klosterman w/ Tapes n' Tapes, Laurie Lindeen w/ Paul Westerberg & many other musical guests, Amy Sedaris (i forget who the band was... Bound Stems i think?), Griel Marcus & The Mekons, etc. this one was Chuck D & Slug from Atmosphere, with Brother Ali as the musical guest. Chuck and Mary Lucia (the usual Fakebook host, who happens to be
  14. i'm just saying that overall, they never made a truly GREAT great record post Exile for me. they made a few good and a few passable records, yes.
  15. Some Girls and parts of Tattoo You, i'd agree those albums don't suck ass (i was saying for the most part, at least compared to their 60's and early 70's output). but there's only a handful of songs i consider great between Goats, IORAR and B&B. and Voodoo Lounge suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks/ed.
  16. besides a a few songs per record in the mid to late 70's and the rare song throughout the 80's & 90's here and there, the Rolling Stones studio output post 1972 has sucked ass for the most part
  17. ^^ yup... have seen Langhorne a bunch of times now, he's fantastic. loving the new full length
  18. the beef of the record is definitely I'm Amazed->Thank You Too->Sec Walkin' for me at this point i'm not a huge fan of all of the string treatments on the record though, i think they give it this cheesy 70's lite FM vibe and aren't really necessary
  19. i saw Chuck D speak on Saturday night (see Avatar ) and he mentioned that he was talking to Kris earlier in the day and told us about the bottle throwing incident/broken hand. KRS One played in the Twin Cities the previous Saturday night.
  20. liking this quite a bit so far... not quite loving it though. doesn't really flow very well and seems kinda like a rollercoaster. was hoping to be blown away by it, but ah well. Z took a while to really sink in for me too, just hoping i like it more than that record in the end. some really amazing tracks that's for sure don't think i'll ever be a very big fan of Highly Suspicious... fun song but shoulda been a b-side or hidden track
  21. caught them live a few weeks back, VERY good/interesting live show
