  1. mostly B, i don't give a fuck about A otherwise i'd never bother opening this thread but Chris is right, the last line just shows musical close mindedness and downright ignorance, which is fine, but i don't expect anyone to get their panties in a tizzy when i call them on their shit either. there's plenty of Rap w/ melody & harmony, but he'll never be privileged to hear it because of his inherit bias. funny thing is, here's what Frank Zappa had to say about Rap: which tells me he obviously has an appreciation for the artform. like i said, you can post all the crazy ass beliefs you w
  2. well i'm not saying there's not some vocals where Jim is reaching Prince-esque falsetto's, i was just saying that there's no song on here that actually reminds me of Prince's music
  3. again... i've never once listened to MMJ for the lyrics... not once
  4. i hate that high falsetto = automatically "sounds like Prince", it's a lazy ass comparison imo nothing on this record sounds like Prince per se
  5. despite the absolutely horrendous album cover, i quite liked that album... he/they were pretty terrible live however
  6. consensus? no... i'm gonna say that more people will like it than dislike it when all the dust settles
  7. boy, you sure know how to have fun! while there's been a ton of douchebaggery
  8. i just started using phpBB on http://forums.arcadefire.net recently, and have no real issues with Spam it looks like they may be running version 2.x of phpBB, so if that's the case, have them upgrade to version 3.x immediately, that may eliminate much of the spam.
  9. yup! posted the story behind it here: http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?s=&...t&p=1117994
  10. finally got to spin the Vinyl version the other weekend after having it for almost 2 months sounds wonderful
  11. oh it's not blowing me away either, but the last album of theirs to do that was At Dawn, so i still love the last 3 records, regardless tho and am spinning the hell out of EU, more than expected actually for me it's hard to be blown away by a record of a band i'm already very very familiar with these days, it seems like the stuff that really gets me going and excited is usually new to me (not always the case). as for the backup vocals... depends on the song, some are ok, some are completely awful (Highly Suspicious obvs) and yes there was a better ripped copy posted the other day (but h
  12. i think Like A River suffers a bit w/o Oldham
  13. you're taking that line out of context: "oh, you really saw my naked heart, you really brought out the naked part" i think that's a pretty cool line actually. nowhere near as "silly" as a kitten on fire or a baby in a blender... look, Jim's never been the greatest lyric writer ever, we can all admit that. he's got a really odd/warped sense of humor that carries over into his songwriting (for better or worse), so to get all up in arms over poor lyrics now just tells me you haven't paid much attention to his lyrics in the past (there's some AWFUL lyrics on TN Fire & It Still Moves too)
  14. where do i begin... the terrible circus backing music? the absolutely HORRENDOUS, and i do mean HORRENDOUS lyrics? it's easily the worst song Jim James has ever written, that i'm quite certain about, and was the one pock mark on an otherwise great record.
  15. while i still prefer the prior 2 EP's, i've gotten over my initial disappointment and am REALLY enjoying this album now... it's very same-y, but packs quite a punch (11 songs over 28 minutes). now hopefully they win me over live in a few weeks, cuz the first time i saw them i was let down big time.
  16. ah! my bad man i own that record in like 3 or 4 diff formats, lol
  17. http://www.auralexploits.com/search.php?label_iid=511 they still have the white vinyl version too
  18. they've already played Highly Suspicious a handful of times live...
  19. Z doesn't have that great of flow.... so yes
  20. yeah... i don't buy this "new direction" thing either... Z was more "experimental" on the whole than this record is. certainly compared to It Still Moves before it as well.
  21. have you seen Something About Mary? Modern Lovers ring a bell?
  22. eh, her voice sounded very good on it i thought... considering she's probably at maybe performance #10 w/ She & Him, or just under, i'll cut her stage presence some slack for now
  23. really?? Georgia's drumming was fantastic i thought, and James added as well. having seen She & Him w/ their full band at SXSW, i can say that YLT added a much needed energy
