the setlist on paper does look great, i agree... but we'll see how they actually sounded. the Pumpkins were ALWAYS very hit or miss live, and in my experiences, more miss than hit. even the best show i saw them do wasn't really up there w/ the best shows i've seen by any means either.

i liked Zwan too, even though the album was a big letdown... they had so many more songs that were way way better than about 70% of what made the album. they had somewhere around 40-50 songs i believe, maybe more.

the guitar tone on the solo for Tarantula is pretty asstacular also, that super quiet bridge thing doesn't work for me at all, it sounds super out of place. lyrics are awful, vocals are pretty dry and banal, guitars are good at times, drums are the best part of the song. can't say much for the melody really either, not that memorable. not a terrible song, but far from great too. i'm less afraid of hearing the full thing than i was before though, so i guess it's a start. and much more promising than the first taste from Adore or Machina as well... 6.5/10

more of the same... but even better than the first

i don't see these shows selling out instantly honestly...

love it honestly... went in with very low to no expectations like w/ this new Spoon album, but even still, i think it's gorgeous. i can see why some might find it "boring" or a "retread" somewhat, or are disappointed that Nels or Glen don't "freak out enough" for them, or they miss the "weird noise", but i could give a shit about any of that, i just think it's really well written, flows extremely well, and it fits my mood/mindspace right now.

well.. and i'm not saying you're in this camp, but... most of the people i know who think that record is as great, if not better, than Girls, Sneaks, or KTM (depends, as KTM was a lot of peoples intro to Spoon), were first introduced to Spoon via Gimme Fiction. but yeah, that's it for me, and Cryptique as well... it's not that Gimme Fiction is BAD, but for both of us, as much as we loved the previous 3 full lengths (and in Tom's case, 4), Gimme Fiction, as great as it is (solid 8+ album still), was a let down as an overall record. killer singles, but didn't quite flow for me, seemed more l

yeah? i think they're pretty myself... sometimes they're a bit more obscure or dark, but it's not total stream of unconsciousness/meaningless like Interpol at least.

at first i didn't like it much at all, which is too bad because i loved Wind In The Wires. saw him open for Amy Winehouse though and was totally converted into a fan of the new one. i still don't like it nearly as much as Wind, but yeah, good stuff.

good god this could be epic...

Sufjan plays piano on 'Racing Like a Pro' and 'Ada' as well

Andrew is my #2 as well, but Boxer is definitely above it. those are the only 2 that stand well above the rest for me this year though Neon Bible, LCD, Dino Jr, David Vandervelde, Wilco, etc. are all close behind.

yeah, that's what i was thinking myself, solid 7.5 for sure. and i also am liking it more because of my lowered expectations after GF too.

am i wrong? that keyboard tone and riff is pretty damn similiar

best album so far this year, no doubt. don't forget Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers either!
-
oh shit, the Obey guy very cool for him
-
wonder if Aidan Hughes did it

actually THIS is what i was thinking of way way more than Journey:

really? i'm finding it's not nearly as hooky as your average Spoon record... not in a bad way, but ther's only been 3 songs so far that the refrain stuck in my head after the song was over. super short tho, 36 min, and good to know that The Ghost Of You Lingers is the only "odd" track. overall this isn't a very rockin'/uptempo affair either... but yeah, while not blowing me away (Spoon records rarely do tho, especially at first) and it's super early to say, this is more encouraging than my first listen to Gimme Fiction, so that's a good thing.
-
only on track 3, but You Got Hr. Cherry Bomb is the hookiest song so far. prolly be a single. the horns are a nice touch.

it's pretty decent so far... not amazing or anything, but not Gimme Fiction Pt. 2 at least either
