if it came from the same version i was referring to above, which is highly likely, then yeah, it's legit

i saw Tesla open for Poison in '89

meh. disagree. the lyrics aren't very good, and i don't really like his vocals on it either. the chorus melody is really meandering/dull for me.
-
having heard the actual record now, the 128kbps m4a rip going around sounds pretty tinny comparatively, just an fyi.
-
he hasn't been much of a drinker for the last few years actually, mostly just weed
-
he always tends to keep things a bit more tight on record
-
it sounds even more incredible imo... the only difference is the main riff was drawn out and they jammed the song out, which i'm sure they'll continue to do live.
-
yeah, i would like Sadness way more w/o that yelp too also... after about 10 listens, i'm not that big on Rip Off either... thankfully it's short. actually a lot of these songs are crazy short, i'm sure they'll be way longer live.
-
yeah, i'm not totally sold on Off Broadway either... that melody is super cheesy. oh, and does the melody to "Tears of Gold" remind anyone else of Lu's "Concrete & Barbed Wire"?
-
not yet, just one song but i liked that... i really need to soon

29 is EASILY Ryan's weakest full length album for me... easily the only great song for me is Carolina Rain. there's a few OK songs, Nighbirds, and some others, but overall, it's such a total mixed bag and has absolutely no flow whatsoever, and the times where it feels like it might are mostly because they're slow/dull numbers such as the excruciatingly long Strrawberry Wine. it's far from underrated... it feels like a mash up of sessions (even though it's not) and lacks any focus. Demolition, which is a compilation of sessions, feels more cohesive and flows better even.
-
i'm just not super big on Ryan's brooding/mellow/darker piano driven work, that's probably my least favorite of all the styles he encompasses...
-
oof. of all the ones to pick as his top 2? especially 29?
-
it's not without a few flaws/missteps, but even with those i'm still pretty impressed w/ how great it is. looking forward to next week's show even more now, just hope it's a good one this time.

amazing record...
-
i love the album (and the previous EP) they are fantastic live...
-
musically it's not that bad, in fact i kinda dig the melody... reminds me of a track on Strangers
-
Halloween Head is a decent song with a dumb name/chorus, that's all.
-
us too! LOVE the Comas National tonight

i'm going to that gig here on Sat, i like all 3 bands i think Veils may be taking over for ESP very soon though

One Mississippi is dammit! being serious here... it's the best power pop album of the last 10-15 years for me... i won't defend Lapalco or Alternative To Love (they're both decent, especially the latter, but One Miss was something else) ah well... i suppose it doesn't help that I was a fan of Brendan before I'd even heard a single White Stripes song either...

excited to finally hear those TN Fire ones!

hey man, i loves me some killer Beatles-y power pop, what can i say? the opening trifecta on that album is one of my fave musical passages of the last 15 years i agree his last 2 records haven't lived up to that masterpiece (Jason Faulkner had a big hand in why it was so great though too), but he writes killer pop melodies, whether or not you like his music or not. as for meg, see: http://www.theonion.com/content/from_print...white_drum_solo sorry, i wish i didn't have to feel the need to rag on her (she has gotten better) but i know myself, growing up playing in bands, that was m
