yeah... Attack & Release quickly became my fave Keys record... esp. after the somewhat disappointing Magic Potion (if i had to pick a "least" favorite Keys album that would certainly be it, felt like a rehash and was kinda mellow). prior to A&R tho it was def Rubber Factory. that said... after 5-6 listens now i think this is far and away the most impressive album they've made to date. it may not end up my favorite, but i think it's a huge step forward for them.

some of it may be tongue in cheek, but i think for the most part the reason it works so much for me is that they're all embracing the influences on the record 100% and you can tell how much fun they had recording it.

happy GAYNGS day album is streaming at http://www.gayngs.net

yeah? i like it a lot, but def not enjoying it as much as '59 Sound or Sink or Swim yet. it not quite as rockin' and a bit more generic lyrically it's not BAD by any means, it's just i love this band and it's not kicking my ass yet. hoping/guessing it grows on me though. the off-key vocals on the last track make me have to skip right past it almost every time sadly. i think i'm too infatuated with the new Black Keys to give it my full attention right now anyway. as for Gayngs, i can't really be impartial regarding that record considering my relationship, that and that it basically consis

it's truly worth it. as tough as it is... i waited a few weeks on the early shitty rips of Veckatimest and i'm glad i did.
-
ditto... i won't be surprised either. my favorites have gone like this... Big Come Up was my first taste, still preferred it to Thickfreakness when that one came out, Rubber Factory became my fave, Magic Potion is my least favorite of theirs (still pretty good tho), and then Attack & Release quickly became my favorite.

just FYI, the version that leaked today (even the V0) is a terrible quality rip (transcoded from 128kbps), if you can hold off until the NY Times streams it in high quality on Friday, i'd def advise to do so.
-
they really have taken it to another level entirely with this one... it's gonna surprise not only huge fans but critics alike.

this is blowing my mind through track 4... Dan's falsetto on the first track is a total trip! this is some funky funk stuff

Someone Great & All My Friends were both in my top 5 songs of 2007. sure All My Friends is monotonous, but sometimes drone-y/repeated songs that build-up work well i like the new album quite a bit, but def not as much as Sound of Silver, as there's 2 songs on the new one i don't care for at all (Drunk Girls & You Wanted A Hit)

yes! such a cool & nice band

i made a pretty good haul: Beach House – Zebra 12” The Black Keys – “Tighten Up” b/w “Howlin’ For You” 12” (new tracks) Bon Iver/Peter Gabriel – “Come Talk To Me” b/w “Flume” split 7” (cover song swap) Built to Spill – “Water Sleepers” b/w “Linus And Lucy Live” 7” Julian Casablancas – “11th Dimension” (live) b/w “Long Island Blues” 7” Drive-By Truckers – “Your Woman Is A Living Thing” b/w “Just Maybe” 7” (picture sleeve, songs exclusive to this release) Fanfarlo – “You Are One Of The Few Outsiders Who Really Understands Us” b/w “What Makes You Think You Are The One” 7” Hold Steady – Heaven I

btw, as someone who was lucky enough to buy a copy of the new album at Record Store Day on Saturday, i can tell you that the vinyl rips going around online are AWFUL sounding

besides 1-2 songs, ditto. not as great as Sound of Silver and certainly borrows strongly from Bowie, Iggy Pop, etc. in spots, but if it's truly the last LCD Soundsystem album, it's not a bad one to go out on.

as great as that performance is, last time i saw them a few months ago they just slayed that song... with the crowd all singing along at the end. check out their old band Simon Dawes as well, 2 of the same members (one being the singer). some of the songs on North Hills actually started out as Simon Dawes songs: http://www.daytrotte...134-110748.html

awesome. they're SOOOO freakin' good live

8.5 + Best New Music from Pitchfork: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14110-the-wild-hunt/ kinda shocked actually... but it's well deserved
-
minus 1 song i'm absolutely LOVING this one right off the bat... production is so much more my style than the self-titled.
-
i'd put it behind We All Belong for sure, but about on par with Fate. i love all but 3-4 songs so far, hoping those other ones grow on me.
-
bunch of promos were sent out last week... i won't be surprised if it leaks in the next 2 weeks

i didn't say it was my main appreciation, not at all, but it certainly doesn't hurt, as i'm a Lifter Puller fan first and foremost, thus why i hold Almost Killed Me in such high regard still. musically a lot of things on Stay Positive annoyed me (the harpsichord on One For The Cutters in particular) too, so it def wasn't just the lyrics. but the plethora of Twin Cities lyrical references can only be fully appreciated if you've ever lived or spent time here... check out this Google Maps thing i created a few years ago, that explains all of the Twin Cities lyrical references through Boys and

Stay Positive is my least favorite Hold Steady album by quite a bit. a few great songs, but overall it's not my thing. the songs are a lot better live. i think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Craig stopped writing about the Twin Cities with SP. Thankfully he is again with the new one some.

another new song 'Barely Breathing' http://stereogum.com...-premiere/mp3s/ verrrrrrry interesting song for them... i don't love it or hate it at this point, but it's certainly interesting. i actually do dig the clarinet solo and sax towards the end tho. this line RULES however: "Summer 88 of was all heat & intensity, saw the Youth of Today at the 7th Street Entry, there were skins in the pit, some of them tried to kill me" edit: after a couple more listens i'm def digging it

such a great local band! glad that album finally came out, it was supposed to come out nearly 2 years ago
