you keep thinking that... there's ALWAYS going to be a subset of people who will need to buy a physical medium, and i'm one of them. i don't buy digital music, sorry. i listen to digital music that is created by ME from my own physical media. sure digital music will surpass physical and physical will be a small portion eventually, but the fact that vinyl sales are up 800% over the last 3 years tells me something... that's a format that's been around for over a century. and i guess if you think that people are going to forgive the concept of artwork for albums in the future, i weep for futu

kids these days

tone-wise, sure... lyrically? sorry, just never liked that song and I agree with Daniel it seems to fit Wilco (or just Jeff maybe?)'s idea of having one big dumb rocker on every record as of late. i'm fine with having fun with songs, but all of those songs with the exception of maybe HMD would have been better served as b-sides imo.
-
then why do artists even bother spending time and money putting together artwork? i mean seriously... artists have just been wasting their time and money the last century!!!!
-
100% OTM. i'd have picked those 3 examples perfectly. we're like the same person! the last of which ends with Jeff screaming WILCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOO WILLOVEEEYOUUUU WILCOOOOOO WILLLOOOOOOOOOVEYOU for 17 minutes

check out their last record, All This Time, it's amazing. i dig the new one a bit tho
-
fair enough. i just asked a simple question, no need to get your panties in a wad. i guess i reserve the word great for only a smaller amount of things . as in i'd probably say Wilco has like 30-40 truly GREAT songs, after that i'd probably settle for pretty good to good honestly i was a bit bummed the song even made the record myself, so for someone (granted it's Rolling Stone) to call it a standout, kind of boggles my mind a bit, but i'll take that comment with a giant grain of salt, considering it's source.

have they been playing it live lately since Colbert? haven't paid attention
-
like great as in fun great? or great as in would be in Wilco's top 20 great? otherwise, i wouldn't consider it, great. it was fun in the context of Colbert, but unless the song has morphed drastically on record, i wouldn't put it anywhere near Wilco's top 50 songs (maybe not even 100, i'd have to count)

Lollapalooza....would like to hear about it...
solace replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
I mean at least last year there were only two headliners past their prime (ok, three if you count Wilco ), and they were only 15 years past their prime at that point, not 20-25... -

Jane's Addiction, Depeche Mode, & Beastie Boys to headline Lolla this year Lollapalooza 2009... more like 1989 amirite? lame. and i LIKE all three bands, but come on. http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/tur...llapalooza.html -
Friday night is f'n amazing so far... seeing Dough Martsch & Duane Denison play the same night may just blow my mind. Sonic Youth & Blitzen Trapper are rumored too
-
yeah... saying that is a standout track does not bode well.
-
i guess i'd just really be curious how accurate the quotes from the Rolling Stone writer's blog are... not saying he didn't maybe talk shit, but what was the overall context is what i'd be curious.

re: Wayne, yes, he still is as of last summer re: Arcade Fire, no actually! they only did that on the Funeral tour
-
Wild Love is good too. the earliest one i enjoy is Julius Ceasar, and even then I only like a handful of tracks.
-
Knock Knock for sure... that has 3 of his best songs imo (Cold Blooded Old Times, Hit The Ground Running, & Let's Move To The Country) my faves: Knock Knock Dongs of Sevotion Supper Red Apple Falls The Doctor Came At Dawn A River Ain't Too Much Rain on Lens

slowly creeping it's way up my faves of the year too

can't wait to hear it... i liked the last one, but Underachievers is my favorite by leaps and bounds

like i said, i don't care if you hate Arcade Fire's music big time, i can just assure you they are all VERY nice and insanely humble folks. maybe Wayne had a bad experience, but in the nearly dozen or so times i've met/talked with them, they've always been very welcoming and made me feel at ease. edit: Win responds with class: www.arcadefire.com they've only met once before, so Wayne was exaggerating right out of the gate.
