Who are the 5 best live bands you've ever seen?
solace replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
Neil Young Prince Bruce Springsteen Pink Floyd Pearl Jam -
Kristian Mattson (aka: The Tallest Man on Earth)'s earlier rock band... it's fucking AWESOME too
-
oooh, yes, for sure. good call
-
he seriously reminded me of a muppet! and they did a spot on cover of Prince's 'When You Were Mine'
-
why do you hate fun? do you also hate freedom?
-
meh, he's just the drummer anyway, they have no say in matters
-
that was also their last proper US tour while they haven't been headlining shows, they've played Chicago way more in the last 2 years than Minneapolis
-
i saw him open for AA Bondy on Thursday and enjoyed it a lot. then again i've been digging the record a decent amount too. it's in a similiar vein as Jens Lekman or The Magnetic Fields, but a bit more tongue in cheek/goofy.
-
great photos!
-
retiring from touring maybe, but ?uest and Black Thought just played here in Minneapolis on Saturday night
-
considering how bad Conan was starting out, i think Jimmy will do ok in time.

eh... disagree on these ones... March 21, 2009: RAY DAVIES (encore)The legendary Kinks frontman Ray Davies makes a rare American television appearance, showcasing classic songs from the quintessential Brit band as well as new tunes from his eagerly received solo record Other People

yeah... while i wouldn't put 'Keep It Hid' up there with Attack, Rubber, or Big Come Up, that show last night was better than any of the half dozen or so Keys shows i've seen... DAMN. Dan definitely works better with a full band, no question. and yeah, Hacienda were awesome. Those Darlins were pretty good too. Great musicians, bit cutesy vocals, but still fun (and cute )

have heard that M. Ward was on a tear on his short European promo tour... can't wait to see him in Austin
-
yes it is. can't f'n wait for that one either
-
cool, glad i'm not the only one

oh i'm SO not opposed to digital music... i download probably 90% of my music digitally before purchasing it, so i definitely enjoy that convenience. but when it comes time to buy, i prefer the physical thing every time. i don't see why i'd spend $9.99 on iTunes to buy an album when i can get the same thing in better quality for the same price (sometimes less) and have an archival quality copy with full artwork that will last me my lifetime likely. and with the case of my top 20-30 albums in a given year, if they are available on vinyl (which i'd say 90% are), i always buy them on vinyl inst

i will say that i wouldn't mind it being a bit more energetic on the whole than Sky Blue Sky. i like that record, don't get me wrong, but...
-
really? Atomic Bomb is my least fave U2 album by a sizeable margin honestly...couple great songs, but other than that.
-
supposedly the case with Pearl Jam was simply that they were past the deadline and couldn't decide on a title. it's funny that it's become known as Avocado now by fans (what a shite album cover that was too). i prefer bands who take a lyric from a song on the record for the title, it's a neat little point of discovery usually. perhaps it stands out because it's the only fast/short little rocker ala Wheel?
-
i dunno... i mean when they surprised us all by playing a 100% brand new and unheard of song on national Television, that excited me. and considering the title and lyrics, it seemed to fit the tone of the Colbert Report to me in it's goofy-sense. i honestly thought it was something that lyrically Jeff wrote specifically for the show in a total joking/tongue in cheek kind of way.
-
am i the only one who is kind of annoyed when bands put out self titled records on like their 9th album or whatever? just seems like they couldn't decide on anything so they gave up.
-
eh, i'm not writing off the album or anything, i was partially kidding but the fact that someone would call that song a "standout" on any Wilco record, without it having changed insanely since the Colbert version, does kind of make my head spin, that's all
