  1. my reply: http://stereogum.com/archives/wheres-the-b...comment-3035571
  2. other than liking it out of the context of the record, i agree with you... it sticks out like a sore thumb even moreso than Vertigo did.
  3. i'd argue it's their best song since Zooropa for me... it's not perfect, as Bono's lyrics on it are still kinda poor, but musically it just has that great U2 feeling like you said.
  4. good performance of both songs, but Magnificent is much better on record than live (so far), yet Breathe is 10x better live.

  6. it's pretty awful, but there were certainly worse covers last year and not like MMJ's artwork has ever been great
  7. my fave songs on Evil Urges: Smokin' from Shootin Two Halves I'm Amazed Thank You Too Aluminum Park Remnants i'd put 3 or 4 of those up there w/ MMJ's better songs
  8. legit (watermarked) promo copy i gotta say, not a fan of the childrens choir on Hazards 3 (Revenge) really... might be my least favorite song on the album :/
  9. so far i've only really not been big on two songs (through track 10) The Rake Song sounds tacked into the mix here though honestly... not saying it was an obvious single, but it's segue from the song that comes before it is pretty abrupt and doesn't flow like the rest has so far. honestly I expected to not really care for this as they've been hit or miss since Her Majesty, but picked back up a bit w/ Crane Wife and this seems more of the same in that vein. edit: Hazards 4 (Drowned) is lovely! . they sure know how to end records well, that's for sure.
  10. liking it quite a bit more than I expcected honestly... not huge on some of the female backing vocals on here (particularly Beck Stark on Isn't It A Lovely Night), but Shara Worden is awesome on The Wanting Repaid
  11. any writer who thinks 'Shot In The Arm' is underrated is clearly a Wilco n00b that song is one of Wilco's most celebrated, especially live. as for Bon Iver, whether or not anyone in this thread likes him or not, he acts like it's a shock that people on a Wilco board dig artists like him and Will Oldham (esp the latter). Magnet is a great magazine, but their online stuff lately (that whole Wrens shit) has been tabloid-esque stuff just to generate hits
  12. good through 3 songs... second track was like some Tesla Unplugged type shit! and no it hasn't leaked (yet)
  13. yup, first two records iirc but yeah, both bands are insanely underrated over here in the US
  14. funny thing is, pretty sure before this latest Elbow record and their Mercury Prize win... they WERE bigger than Elbow in the UK

  16. oh there is. that's what b-sides are made for imo
  17. it's just a big dumb rock song with retarded lyrics. wouldn't sound out of place on a Ween record (hey i like Ween) it's placement doesn't exactly help it's cause for me either. musically it's fun, esp live
  18. while i do love a good chunk of Evil Urges... it's my least fave album of theirs by a decent margin. but it's nowhere as bad as many of the reviews it got. i think it would have faired much better if they'd just left off Highly Suspicious honestly... the band's studio albums have been on a slow decline since At Dawn for me, so i really hope they pick back up on the next record, as I'd hate for them to slide off my radar. live show however, they're still one of the best bands around.
  19. Pfork review is about dead on my thoughts/take on the record surprisingly
  20. Interview with the Tap from March issue of Vanity Fair: http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features...pinal-tap200903
  21. fuck. no Mpls date... might have to go to Chicago or Milwaukee :/
  22. yes... but sadly it's a vastly VASTLY inferior take than the one we've had for the last 14 years or so the lyrics are way different and not as good either. something tells me that someone in the band truly does hate that song.
  23. of Alive? i think the original in this case to be honest... tough to say Brendan's version of Porch is way way better though. i haven't heard all of the new versions yet, just 4 tracks
