  1. Just got the bug to watch a few highlights of Jordan from the championship years here. And you know what? Not that it needs to be said, but nobody, and I mean NOBODY can hold a candle to the guy. No matter what you think of him as a person, as a basketball player, the guy was freaking untouchable. And he probably will be for many years to come. That is a once-in-a-lifetime talent. I'm just glad that A) I got to see him; and he played for my team.
  2. I am going on Thursday night and, while I am not expecting it to happen, I really would like to see k.d. give Joe Pisapia a little solo spotlight. Most of you have seen me raving about his 2002 album Daydreams on here. And now, Joe is a member of k.d.'s band (and he produced the new album). So... did she let him have a song or two? And, aside from that, how did the band sound live? Because k.d. is a helluva performer. (I've seen her once before.)
  3. And how could I forget Mojo Nixon?!?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7NWXJ8iPQw&feature=related
  4. I think that a lot of you are missing the point of the thread. This is not JUST about Beatle v. Beatle, but the whole A v. B debate within bands, in general.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHqR1Rql5r8Larry "Wild Man" Fischer dead at age 66. Although maybe more of a blessing for him. May your torture be over, Larry. http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/ ... vrit=53008
  6. And, let's keep Harry Chapin out of this one, eh? As good as that song is, it is faaaarrrr too cliché by now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIs_YRaOXzA
  7. Listening to Nova Mob's The Last Days of Pompeii for the first time right now. Loving it. I always considered myself to be a bit more of a Bob person, when it came down to the Hüsker arguement. But then, the more that I listen to Grant's post-band work, the more and more I become a big, big fan of his. I used to consider myself a solid John person, but it's pretty hard to say that now. When it comes down to it, I think that I really love George's stuff just as much as any of the John or Paul's? UT: Again, I was a firm Jay guy. And the first Son Volt and first Wilco records only made me mor
  8. I love Harry! And yeah, I forgot just how much of his stuff is really funny.
  9. That is a good, and pertinent question. I did not ask him what part he was from. But the owner was the only one in the store that spoke much English at all.
  10. Done. And, if you live nearby (or even not so nearby) it is worth the trip. It's BYOB, too.
  11. I don't know how many of you will get to Cicero. I don't imagine that most of you want much to go to Cicero, there's not much there. And it can get a bit sketchy. However, if you are in Oak Park (which is nearby, with lots to do), and you love Mexican food, here is a tip (copied from my other thread that may sink to the bottom soon): Los Chilaquiles in Cicero. It's just a little dive with about 7 or 8 little tables. Looks like a typical taqueria, but it's anything but. I walked in with my son, and the owner greeted us and told us, "I am going to sell you a LOT of food tonight!" He walked us t
  12. For me (and a lot of folks, I think) it just doesn't really hold up well. However, there are one or two exceptions. The number one, for me is: THE BONZO DOG BAND. I can listen to these guys just about every day. And this song, in particular, makes me laugh every single time. And I've heard it hundreds of times. Still chuckle -- audibly -- every single time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuklqJD3v0c Also, they have a song called "Death Cab For Cutie" which is, of course where that band gets their name. (I was disappointed to find that Death Cab were so serious.) Other than the Bonzos, th
  13. After searching for years for a Mexican place near me that serves huitlacoches (corn mushrooms), I finally found one: Los Chilaquiles in Cicero. It's just a little dive with about 7 or 8 little tables. Looks like a typical taqueria, but it's anything but. I walked in with my son, and the owner greeted us and told us, "I am going to sell you a LOT of food tonight!" He walked us through the menu which, despite my familiarity with Mexican food, had a lot of stuff that I had not yet seen, including a bunch of different salsas. (One with roasted chipotle peppers and tequilla was especially amazing
  14. Linus of Hollywood - Let Yourself Be Happy Nothing more of less than perfect pop. Think if Belle & Sebastian were from Southern California, and had less of a politics of sexuality focus, lyrically. A lot more playful, too. Oh yeah, it's twee!
  15. Listening to disc one of the Box Set right now and... I GET IT! Damn hell, do I get it! Okay, so this is what folks were talking about. YEAH!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRuTRp4k_MQ
  16. I used to have one of these, but with a blue, metal-flake finish. Even the (D'Armond) pickups were a kind of sparkly blue: Sold it for $100 when I was unemployed back in 1997. Thing played like shit and wouldn't stay in tune anyway. Still, it looked hot, and those were pretty great pickups. The guy that I sold it to took it apart and used the pickups in a baritone guitar that he was building.
  17. Very nice. Like the more-country side of Wilco. I'm really digging the pedal steel, too.
