RAPHAEL SAADIQ!!! Tonight, Park West, Chicago (with Quadron)

Serious writer's block. I do have to tweak the lyrics a little. And the arrangement will probably need some fine tuning. But this was a video that I made of me playing this very simple little Buck Owens-type tune on the night that I wrote it -- less than an hour after I jotted down the last note on a scrap of paper that I found laying around on my night stand. Maybe I'll record it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ON9uKHgOIM Hope that you like it. Let me know.

When the opening act blows me away. And this one: Yeah, that's a good one. I have a magnolia tree in my front yard and, for the 2 weeks or so that it's in-bloom, I love walking out my front door every morning, just to get a whiff of that tree!

I picked this up over the weekend, based upon the rec. of a trusted record store employee. First listen: not so hot. I mean, the sound of the thing is where it should be: nice old-school soul sound a la Bill Withers. But the lyrics (way too easily understood) are forced, kinda trite, and the kind of thing that can ruin an otherwise cool song. As evidenced by this tune, in particular: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR6oYX1D-0w Second listen: I didn't mind the lyrical content quite so much and am starting to enjoy the album a little more, if not as much as I wish that I did. I'm curious to g

Just found out that these are the guys that are opening for Raphael Saadiq on the 3rd at the Park West. The videos I checked out: (and another one, which the board won't let me post.) Sound pretty cool. Any of y'all know anything else about these guys (women)? I think that I will get there early to check them out, but more info is appreciated. Thanks!

Most Beautiful Songs that Break Your Heart
PopTodd replied to sgtpepper64's topic in Someone Else's Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jRLGE-TBBA Just about anything from this record, really. All so beautiful; and all so very, very heartbreaking. -
Yeah. I started easy. Come up with your own. Make it harder.

And this one.... Fucking kills me every time that I hear it.

A game, because it's fun. Post one single line from a song. Whoever guesses it gets to go next and post one song from another song. It may fail miserably, but what the hell. Oh, and ONE AT A TIME!!!! I start: "Buy me a soda?"

Here's a video of my performance, taken in the studio by Razor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH0AS7y_Ms0&feature=youtu.be Three originals, and then I finish up with a Jim Ford/Brinsley Schwarz cover. (The first one is one of the songs that I am going to record on Saturday for the new EP.) Oh, and I should say that I normally play standing up, and dance around. I just felt like sitting that day.

I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Made something very fun out of a topic that is pretty serious. And, I have to say, that Robert Downey Jr. gives what may be my very favorite performance of his. He is one of my all-time favorite actors, and his Principal Gardener role is dead-on perfect as a dad and principal who is just a person and is totally lost as to exactly how to handle certain situations. To use an overused critics' phrase: there is a lot of subtlety and nuance in his performance that just makes it so completely dead-on. He acts exactly the way that I feel sometimes as both a fathe
