  1. A friend of mine made a mix for me of 10 songs from this Billy Connelly/Gerry Rafferty band and it was amazing. I've since lost that collection to computer upgrades, but I've been on the lookout for this record: Sadly, its out of print, and all copies that I've seen have been a fortune. Any of y'all fans? Can you help me out with where to find a reasonably priced copy of this thing. "Her Father Didn't Like Me Anyway" is one of the greatest songs ever, and the rest that I've heard ain't too shabby, either. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMw2h4NORx4 Thanks!
  2. Sadly, that is an album that I am not familiar with. Listening to the title track on YouTube now. Sounds pretty cool; I'm gonna have to check it out. Damnit.
  3. Do I really need an excuse to post this magnificent, transcendental piece of music? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3ueIweuUvo&feature=related Well... happy birthday Mr. Cale.
  4. Oh... I am by no means a great singer, and I have never (and will never) consider myself to be such. However, I apparently have a skill that others find difficult to master: the ability to slip into and out of falsetto on the fly. Yes, sometimes it's a yodel (a la Chris Issak), but, as I am not a totally confident vocalist -- that kinda technique sounds a bit showy to me and I would never want to intentionally call attention to my vocal technique. Still, there are songs that require it, the way that they were written. I just thought it was something that anybody who could sing falsetto at all
  5. Nice, Lam. I like your songs. They good. (And, have you noticed that in "Strawberry Fields Forever", only the title PHRASE is in 3/4. The rest of the song is 4/4. And it's seamless. Fucking Beatles.)
  6. I've seen folks use that capo technique, too, but I've never attempted it, myself. Just like I don't really fuck around with open tunings. I'm enough of a guitar retard (please pardon the term) without any deviations from the norm, that the thought of fucking with that kind of thing makes me cry. I guess the "unusual" thing that I've gotten complimented on that I didn't know that I was doing was writing songs with unusual structures. There have been times that I have done it on purpose (a song on the new album was purposefully written as a linear composition). But, apparently, I've written t
  7. I think the one in the photo is somewhere around $750 - $850. Not bad for what you're getting.
  8. Friend of mine is now building Telecasters from various Tele parts and custom-hand-wound pickups. J2K Guitars I want one so badly! Here's some more:
  9. I could never forget those albums. I love those albums. They are also among my favorites. But Up on the Sun is their masterwork.
  10. Up on the Sun is essential; better than Meat Puppets II, IMO. (Although II is considered their masterwork.)
  11. I agree. I thought the same thing. Looks like it was designed by a middle schooler. Wish that Curt had done the art for this one, as usual. Still, let's see what the MUSIC is like.
  12. Okay, so nothing that the Pups has done since the millennium has really grabbed me -- at all. But, they were my gateway band and I will ALWAYS pay attention whenever the guys put out something new. As always, I am taking a wait and see with this one. Hopefully, I won't be too disappointed this time.
  13. Just saw the documentary and it was really well-done. Wouldn't recommend it for anybody who is not already a fan or does not already have an interest in Harry. But for you fans, it is a pretty interesting look at the man, his life, and his music. A pretty sad story, for sure. But still a good view and good insight. Sad that it seemed like he died just as he finally got to a happy place in his life. But, that's what years of abuse will do to you, I guess.
  14. That looks positively face-melting!!! Thanks for the follow-up!
  15. This is my dream acoustic: The Collings 001 Wish that I could get one for less than $4500 or so. Sound like no other guitar that I have ever heard. So gorgeous!
  16. Report back on the Ty Segal set. I really like Melted and am curious as to how he does live.

  18. Another lightbulb joke. (Best if told by somebody who has actually had brain surgery).: How many brain surgery patients does it take to screw in a lightbulb? I don't know, how many? How many brain surgery patients does it take to screw in a lightbulb? I don't know, how many? How many brain surgery patients does it take to screw in a lightbulb? I don't know, how many? How many brain surgery patients does it take to screw in a lightbulb? I don't know, how many? How many brain surgery patients does it take to screw in a lightbulb? I don't know, how many?!?!?! How many brain surgery
  19. How many hipsters does it take to screw in a lightbulb? It's a pretty obscure number; you've probably never heard of it.
  20. I forgot about him. Wife would kill me! So, I guess that I could also add Brent Mydland (Grateful Dead) to the list, too.
