  1. I'm also trying to think of a flaw with: Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs but I can't think of one, off-hand. Probably the only Clapton album that I can still listen to, but what a helluva album! I've brought it with me today and will give the final verdict (my final verdict) on whether or not it is actually without flaw.
  2. Not sure. But if you find one, could you share?

  5. I can't say what you're "missing' in it; you just don't like it. As for what hit me so hard, and why it's so perfect all the way through: The melodies are nothing short of miraculous... and the consistent feel that the band (Brian) maintains throughout, from beginning to end, very simply sucks me in and won't let me go until the final note has faded. Plus, (and this is a rarity for a Beach Boys album) the lyrics actually strike a chord with me. Yes, they are simple and straightforward.. anti-poetry, perhaps. But, the way these straightforward, even simplistic stories are communicated, is just

  10. I am a guitar player and I have made my fair share of drummer jokes in the past. But, the fact of the matter is that there are drummers out there who DEFINE the sound of the bands that they are in. Say what you will about Ringo, but The Beatles would not have sounded like The Beatles without Ringo behind the kit. (And yes, I know that Paul played on a couple of tunes and that they had a studio guy on another song early on. Nonetheless...) And in this thread, I just wanted to post video evidence of another drummer who here, without the band that he became famous with, proves that it was HE wh

  12. Let's see, my top 10: 1. Purple Rain (kinda a no-brainer) 2. Lovesexy (a controversial choice, but every song on there is ace, except maybe one) 3. Dirty Mind 4. The Love Symbol (underrated) 5. The Black Album 6. Sign o' the Times 7. Chaos and Disorder (also underrated, and Prince's best guitar album) 8. 1999 9. Controversy (maybe I'm just not familiar enough with it) 10. The Gold Experience

  14. Just listened to that tour CD-R and it's pretty much all kinds of awesome. Like My Bloody Valentine doing girl group songs with Kim Deal on vocals. It makes me happy and summery.
  15. My sister and I pitched in to get my father a 75-minute deep-tissue massage. (Hold the bad jokes, please.) My wife got me a Half-Price Books gift card (already spent). And my kids got me this t-shirt: Love it!

  17. I have been REALLY into The Harder They Come soundtrack, but did not know where to go next with any of that rocksteady stuff. Thanks for giving me direction!
  18. Mrs. PopTodd and I just heard a song of theirs over at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Sj5_WITMpA We liked it and are thinking of going to see them at EmptyBottle while Pitchfork is going on. Any fans? Info on the band? You all going? Thanks!
  19. Dan, here is my review: Brown Recluse - A New Paradigm This is a downer of a record. But not in a bad way. There are shades of both Jeff Tweedy's and Jay Farrar's quieter, more pensive moments on here. But it doesn't sound like an Uncle Tupelo record, rather it sounds like a record that the two of them made together, after they had moved on to Wilco and Son Volt, respectively. Some really excellent songwriting and good hooks. A good command of dynamics and jagged guitar lines punctuate the downer melodies and themes to draw the listener in. Kinda like those two guys that I mentioned earlier.
  20. That was fun! If you wanted to hear it, there will be archived audio at The Official Razor and Die Site by sometime early next week.
