Definitely Kiko, to start. Also, you should definitely not avoid La Pistola y El Corazon. Yes, it is traditional Mexican music, the sort of which you probably don't normally listen to. But it is also incredible and you will find yourself loving it a shocking amount. And, if you listen to that, back to back with, say The Latin Playboys albums, you can get a true appreciation for just how astonishing these musicians really are and how much ground they can cover so well.

Saw the movie yesterday and it was pretty cool. And, while I expected the soundtrack to be good too, I did NOT expect to hear a Tom Zé song in the middle of the flick! It freaked me out and I started dancing in my seat, much to the horror of my kids. Couldn't help it, though. Made me so happy. Fuck.Yes.

George Wendt ("Norm" from Cheers) was at a Gene Clark Tribute show that I played at. Although I was the first act and he got there after I was done. Although, Carla Olson (Gene Clark's duet partner on his last couple of albums) was there for my show. I also saw John Haggerty (Naked Raygun/Pegboy) and Larry Damore (Pegboy) at the last gig that one of my old bands played. Talked to them after my set and they had nice things to say about us. Larry was super nice. John just wanted to be left alone, I think.

Shuffle of some stray single tunes in my iTunes. Right now, it's this brilliant piece. Sheds a whole new light on both "Revolution #1" and "Revolution #9." I get it now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQDDfW2pMhk

They have John and Paul, but no GEORGE HARRISON? Also, a notable omission, as long as they did include several non-rock songwriters, maybe the greatest songwriter of the 20th century: Cole Porter. Other omissions: Robert Pollard Stephen Merritt Gene Clark -
As you may or may not have heard, I have been writing record reviews for New Zealand-based psych blog The Active Listener. Been doing it for about a year now and it's been cool getting free music to listen to and write about. So, yeah, I don't get paid in money, but in music. My ego tells me that you all are dying to read every single thing that I've written! Actually, I just want to share because I like to share. So, I'm setting up this thread to put in links where my reviews will reside. Check them out if you like (there is always at least one song sample at the end of each), and maybe you'l

Just released. Although, I'm not sure if it's technically out. But I contributed to their crowd fund, so I got my copy right away. (Also, the drummer, J. is a high school friend of mine.) EDIT: Wait! It IS out through their Bandcamp page. https://ashtrayboy.bandcamp.com
