A Wilco mention on the Onion AV Club's Random Rules
ChooChooCharlie replied to BigWheeledWagon's topic in Just A Fan
Thanks -- I enjoyed that. Then I went through 15 minutes of self-loathing as I scanned through all the inconsequential posts below the article looking for Wilco references. -
He has posted once under Sue's username, and I'm sure he has read some threads, but I highly doubt its more than a rare occurrence. Basically, I never post or read others posts and wonder what JT is thinking, whether he reads or not.

I don't think Jeff reads this. I love the literal and catchy lines of Casino Queen and love the aquarium drinker line. It makes sense to me whether or not it did to Mr. Tweedy.

http://www.rockbeatstone.com/rockbeatstone...081/wilco1.html Located at the above link is a review I wrote for Rockbeatstone Magazine. I actually hooked up with the editor of the magazine, James, through ViaChicago. Rockbeatstone is a London-based online rock magazine, and has some really great content. I'm not a professional journalist, and I had a blast writing the review. After one of the best weeks of my life thanks to Wilco, I just hope I did the band justice! -Sean

:lol :lol Brilliant!

My wife's best friend is getting married Aug 1-2. If Wilco and Rage join Radiohead and NIN I may have to get divorced.
-
Couldn't agree more. No. But I'm sure you are if you think Jeff opening for Wilco is a possibility with this lineup.
-
Don't get me wrong, I love Tweedy solo, but I don't think Jeff would do that b/c its not Jeff Tweedy & Wilco, its Wilco. Everybody in Wilco does solo/side projects and I be very surprised to see him draw extra personal attention at a Wilco show (though I agree, it would be sweet if it happened in a vacuum). My vote is for Arcade Fire -- though it might have to be a double-bill nowadays.

haha -- for sure kurt. i have a proximity infatuation with Residency's and the Millenium Park show.

:lol I couldn't agree more. I also think Scorsese ruined Goodfellas. :D I know that guy. He's always 'rockin' that super-cool "Your Favorite Band Sucks" t-shirt under his popped collar, and he signed my yearbook, "Have a good summer fuckface" Nailed it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I agree the newest incarnation of wilco has something to prove by putting out an album in the same category as YHF, AGIB, ST, and BT -- but they are quite possibly the best live band in the world right now (sorry Arcade Fire, you know I love you) because of this lineup. Just listened to a J

I too have questioned the veracity of mr. bennett with his side of the story. The story seemed completely offered to say what a great guy he was to comfort Jeff in his time of need. Given the timing of the interview it certainly is suspect, although still entirely possible.

I can't disagree, but on a given day its AGIB, YHF, ST, BT tied for first -- they're so different its not really a fair comparison. One thing I am certain of is that AGIB is their most underrated album. Kidsmoke is easily my favorite live Wilco tune, Handshake is a classic and 20 years from now will be a legend of a song. Fantastic pop at the end with Theologeons and Late Greats and Hell is Chrome and ALTWYS hit me over the head one day with their greatness. I used to detest Company in my Back and now I enjoy that too. Its the sleeper Wilco record and no album transports me like AGIB,

I think people's expectations were way too high. They were going to do two SBS songs b/c thats the last record, and they weren't going to sound their best in the SNL studios -- no band does. Its a more awkward venue that is basically removed from the fans -- most of whom are not there to see Wilco. No band is going to be as loose as they normally are with TV cameras all around them, only two songs to perform, and a silent, sitting audience watching. I thought the performance was just OK, but that didn't surprise or disappoint me at all (even though I just saw the band at the height of thei

I actually found that very informative -- thanks

I'm sure this sounds ridiculous to anyone not in my circle of Wisconsin friends and family, but today is in the top ten saddest days of my life. I was 11 when Brett came in the league and 13 when he took over for the Pack and never looked back. He's probably the person who has given me and my family and friends the most joy out of all the people we haven't met.

John Stirrat interview in Des Moines Register
ChooChooCharlie replied to dmait's topic in Just A Fan
I thought he mean SBS and the next album. -
That's so true -- I recently compared/contrasted Jeff's voice on 'Too Far Apart' live at Residency vs. studio. He sings 2-3 octaves higher now on 'Too Far' and the song is twice as good because of it.

It might not indicate that he's acting pissy, but it would certainly tell me he had that capacity -- if I didn't know anything about JT or his sense of humor, I would watch SNL last night and think he was probably a pretentious artist.
