speaking of Mr. Weir - justcaught this while studying up w clive davis' (in the news lately...waht) wiki profile: In 1972, Davis also signed Earth, Wind & Fire to Columbia Records. One of his most recognized accomplishments was signing the Boston group Aerosmith to Columbia Records in the early 1970s at New York City's Max's Kansas City, which was mentioned in the 1979 Aerosmith song "No Surprise", where Steven Tyler sings, "Old Clive Davis said he's surely gonna make you a star, just the way you are." Pavement: I remember going through a heavy Dead phase, having a kid, doing the career thing, and slowing my new music roll, At a family reunion in Philly, I was chatting up a favorite nephew who was in his early 20's at the time and well versed in music,He stoutly regarded Crooked Rain Crooked Rain and Slanted as some of the greatest records ever...... I'd guess this was 1997, and I remember the picnic benches where we hung out, rapping about artists and bands for a couple hours. I went home and checked it out, and have never looked back. Even today, I am a huge Malkmus fan, and pretty much -

i don't believe the rangers will win 93 this year- not hatin' but i just don't see it. that said i'm a diehard phils phan, and, well, my fingers and toes are crossed for ALOT of things to fall into place..... rangers/ phils WS = OK w me. no matter- my freshmancollege boy and i are off to clearwater beach for the training of the spring on 3/1. 3 games 3 stadiums, all phillies. we went when he was 10. we went when he was 14. now he's 18. and we will observe some scientologists, too. i'm kind of obsessed with those, um, folks. and i'll cry like a little boy when we have a catch on the

seriously, like any body of work from any artist, in real time we're all probably toooo close to it. and whatever station we are at in life has a huge influence as well. in retrospect (not unlike relationships, winknod), perspective grows. I appreciate the bro or brotha who started this thread- great discussion, too. we all love music- that's cool- and there are few things better than being introduced to an artist or band at some point in their career, and having the pure pleasure to explore their equally awesome back/front catalog: example- my first clash record was London Calling in 79 o

oh my word, her new (ok not really NEW) record is absolutely fantastic. first record of hers i've ever purchased (5 buck amazon download thingee after hearing all the "buzz") i loved the song "criminal" when it came out, but only paid passing attention since, although all her records seem to garner positive reviews. can't wait to explore the back catalog. am i alone here?

todd- well done - i'm a crackbass player and the music sometimes overwhelms me with it' s intracicy ...actually Coposing/Writing is waay beyond my skill set though I'm less intimidated by lyrics. a song is a song, and it's value lies in the composers wallet. dollars n diamonds are never the inspiration, i bet. a good song will be passed around, a strong song will be pushed on highways and railways, campfires and rambles. let's hope for wings on this one, and many more from you- keep on songcrafting. the hell with Nashville. may they come calling on your terms.

wow. watching this now...came i during Bruces cant rememeber the rising records song title... and then btr with jon bon. in and out w/ sixers game, but lord jesus christ the sandler "Hallelujah" was priceless. roger waters was waaay good, with the city hip hop dance thing on "Another Brick in the Wall" was all WHATTTT?? led off w/ flesh, finished w $$ and us and them. clapton acoustic/ electric mmmeh stones: quick, yet polished and ferocious. alicia keys asked people to hold u their cell phones - 10 point deduction but still sexy as all get out now, Rog and Pete, I mean Pete and

nice post, lou - i was a fan through Another Grey Area, and then drifted. I bought Squeezing Out Sparks on cassette, and later had to replace on CD. Still great today. I need to catch up on his stuff since- not sure where to start. Howlin Wind is hugely under-rated as well, in my opinion. -
met up w/old friend at her house- did a little pre-show. hit up a brick oven pizza place a couple doors down from venue. free parking in front of police station ( my rams head go to) Ommegang Atlas on tap. Missed Tift - but that didn't cause a rift (sorry) upper levels closed- fairly packed yet parse Tues night crowd. No distracting chatter. JTE- opened acoustic with The Night John Henry Died, brought the band out after another number or two. A fine 4 piece with a young looking Levon on drums, alternating electric/ stand-up bass, and lead guitar/ slide guitar guy. TIGHT. Set- up soun
