  1. I'd love to be able to attend the screening at the Davis. Another (among a billion) reasons why I wish I lived in Chicago. I'm very much looking forward to seeing this film, and I plan on supporting the Kickstarter campaign when I next get paid.
  2. Hard to believe it's been 10 years since they called it a day. Ten years ago today.
  3. Well dang. Has this already started? I really need to pay better attention.
  4. I'm so out of it these days that I didn't even realize it's already playing. Thanks for your review. It's inspired me to go to the theater for it. Plus who knows how many more times we'll have a chance to see a new Eastwood movie?
  5. The Connells. First time I’ve seen them since April 18, 2002. So excited!
  6. I was nonplussed when I learned that some people don't find him funny. I always thought he was a comedic genius. On Mondays my high school and college friends and I always talked about his Weekend Update performances. For the last couple of days I've spent a few hours watching his standup routines and late night appearances on YouTube. If laughter's the best medicine then I should be recovering from this sinus infection I'm battling in no time. Norm left us way too soon.
  7. It appears that those of us in South Mississippi will be spared from the brunt of the storm. I sure hope so. Memories of last October's post-Zeta cleanup are still very fresh. Unfortunately it looks like family in Southwest Louisiana may not be so fortunate. When I was a kid I thought hurricanes were great because we didn't have to go to school. Then I had to help my parents with cleanup without electricity and air conditioning for several weeks in early September after a particularly big hurricane. Not fun at all!
  8. Roll On, last year's limited release final album by Water Liars. I still marvel at this album and am so sad they called it quits before this album saw the light of day. Water Liars - Roll On - Bandcamp
  9. My only complaint is that it's too short. Especially considering the event was three days in length. Seeing country blues giants like Bukka White (B.B. King's older cousin), Sleepy John Estes, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and Furry Lewis was pretty amazing. Those kids in the crowd were so fortunate to have that experience! I bought the DVD because Fat Possum had a great sale in July, but it'll be streaming free YouTube soon: I also watched the new PBS American Masters episode on Buddy Guy last night. Highly recommended!
  10. It was a fun way to go into the hiatus. Thanks to the above named VCers for their efforts to recap the shows for us. And for those who'll be seeing Wilco on the road, enjoy for me!
  11. They've released another song off the new album. Hear The Connells’ “Steadman’s Wake” From First New Album In 20 Years
  12. Last weekend I saw pics of my group's new place and the list of my housemates, and I'm already excited. It can't get here soon enough!
  13. They're one of those bands that reach some people when seen and heard live. I associate them and their shows with making great memories with college friends.
  14. That's a solid record as well. I like all of their albums except Darker Days. They hadn't really developed their sound at that point, but by Boylan Heights they'd found it. One album that a lot of people either don't know about or have forgotten is Old School Dropouts. They released it after being dropped by TVT, and it's been out of print for years. I thought it was pretty good. Apparently some of the songs on it were unfinished, and updated versions will be on the new album. They also recorded a great cover of Nick Lowe's "Cruel to be Kind" that was supposed to be on a movie soundtrack but n
  15. If you're interested in exploring their catalog, I recommend starting with the album Fun & Games. If you like that one then I'd move on to Boylan Heights, One Simple Word, and Ring. It's always boggled my mind that these guys weren't huge. During my college senior year both my roommate and I had our cars broken into on the same night. The first thing i did when I discovered that one of the windows in my car had been broken out was to check on whether my Boylan Heights CD was still in the car. It was!
