  1. This documentary about the distribution of wealth in the world is currently streaming on Netflix. I'm no economic scholar, but I did learn a thing or two from watching it.
  2. In just a few hours, fittingly, he'll just be "Florida man."
  3. I'll be celebrating while wearing my Joe Biden socks and perhaps a campaign button. And I'll be breathing a huge sigh of relief that a certain delusional narcissist no longer has valid nuclear codes. Since I'm working from home I may mix myself a stiff drink while following the inauguration ceremony on TV.
  4. There's a signifiant chance that someone will discover me dead beneath a ginormous pile of books some day. Death by books doesn't seem like a bad way to go.
  5. Thanks so much for sharing and for this particular episode. Dale Murphy was my boyhood hero. I discovered him, the Atlanta Braves, and baseball when my family got cable in 1982. I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times, and he's such a great, genuine guy. On the last occasion I had to meet him, I started our conversation by asking him to name his favorite Wilco album. He was so surprised and delighted by my question that we talked for about ten minutes about music. This episode was a real treat. Listening to my sports idol thoughtfully break down an album by one of my all-time favori
  6. I discovered Snail Mail by accident last night. One of her songs was playing on satellite radio during my weekly grocery store excursion. It was impressive enough that I listened to Lush last night. Count me as a fan now.
  7. Well said, Donna. Happy New Year to you and to all VC'ers.
  8. Meh. I nearly turned off the move after the first hour and in hindsight I kinda wish I would have. It just didn't do anything for me. .
  9. Just finished watching this film and enjoyed it tremendously. Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman were incredible. Lagniappe: The Ma Rainey House and Museum in Columbus, Georgia is open for tours. Its curator is Fred Fussell, the father of Solid Sound alumnus and opener for several Wilco shows, Jake Xerxes Fussell.
  10. The holidays aren't as warm and fuzzy for me as they once were. Most of the people in my family who made it special are dead. That includes my dad, whose birthday is Dec. 23 (which serves as a strong reminder of his absence). The pandemic certainly doesn't help. So I'm working a good bit and reading, listening to podcasts and watching movies during my down time. Given all of those factors I've still been in a mostly upbeat mood and listening to Christmas music a good bit. As the big day approaches, however, the whole holiday season thing is getting a little more depressing. No big gift wishes

  12. Ah, thanks for the explanation and for upping the ceiling on uploads.
  13. I'm pretty sure unless the locals in Woodstock spoke with very heavy Cajun French accents. Thank you for the kind words. I'm so glad I was able to get the Cajun Mardi Gras experience before everything went nuts.
  14. I have no idea. The venue is named the Red Dragon Listening Room. It's a very unique place (in a good way). I hope to attend more shows there in the future.
  15. I had a few more pics to share, but I can't figure out how to do so. I keep getting a message indicating I'm only allowed to share a certain amount of bytes. Oh, well. There have been a few highlights in an otherwise "meh" year. I'm very appreciative for them. And for everyone here. Hope everyone's enjoyed a wonderful, safe holiday.
  16. Happy Thanksgiving to you, our fearless leader, and to everyone at Via Chicago! It's certainly been a trying year. Before all hell broke loose I managed to squeeze in a few concerts, including a Bottle Rockets/Robbie Fulks show at a very cool venue in Baton Rouge. Although the annual barbecue cookoff/festival benefitting pediatric brain cancer in which I participate didn't happen, we did meet for the plot draft. That meant free beer and a brewery tour which led to an interesting discovery. I was also fortunate enough to experience my first Cajun Mardi Gras with family. I had so much fun I orde
  17. I'm sure I'll fail to recall some but off the top of my head: Mavis Neko Case Courtney Barnett St. Vincent Rhiannon Giddens Loretta Lynn Caroline Rose
