  1. Thank for the pics (and to all the other photo-posters, too). I don't know which is more fun to see, John singing, or Jeff on bass. rcb The Middle 8 Last entry: The Ain't 8.
  2. I'd pay $100 right now to hear > I Am The Walrus.
  3. Somebody must've hit the wrong part of a keyboard. That's the phone-ring that they used in Hate It Here at the right line at least once or twice during this run.
  4. Man, they are ripping through the tunes. 35 songs should be no problem before half-past. Unless, of course, they do a 15-minute, one-song, Less Than You Think encore.
  5. 7 - the thanks i get 8 - just a kid 9 - red-eyed and blue > 10 - i got you
  6. Pretty sure that was Jeff, and more sure that was a Lawrence Welk impression. (I'm sure even he has a Wiki page.) He's a bandleader from another time. Used to have a show on Saturday evenings for the older folks (my grandmother watched it), and that's what he'd say on the show, coming out of a performance by some of his musicians ... "Beautiful, beautiful ....". I feel old now. rcb The Middle 8 Last entry: The Ain't 8.
  7. Got an e-mail about Crowded House's upcoming tour dates, and this jumped out at me: "Support on the European dates except Spain will be Cherry Ghost. All tickets go on sale June 29 except Amsterdam and Oslo June 30" Huh, and here's confirmation on their Wikipedia page, because if it's on the internet it must be true. A band named after a 3-year-old Wilco song opening up for another favorite that broke up 11 years ago ... weird. I could see Neil Finn sitting in and enjoying a Spiders or something similar. He's known for his songs but enjoys the occasional rude solo. Maybe the folks at A
  8. Didn't Edward Norton, Jr.'s father (um, I guess that'd be Edward Norton, Sr.) have a hand in designing that community? Amazing the random crap that can stick in the brain sometimes. Sounds like it was a great show. Given how fun it is to get from here up and across the DC area after work, I rolled the dice that they'll come back around the east coast later this year, at least NoVA or Richmond if not Charlottesville. I think Jeff had a good time at his solo gig, maybe he'll bring the whole band. Anyway, congratulations to all the winners and folks who got to go. And thanks to the tapers of
  9. I'm not sure that I'm comfortable enjoying Helvetica on THEIR terms. rcb, Book Antiqua guy, generally
  10. I have the deluxe, and the CD "extras" file got me to the little window where I could open up the player for the webcast, but that is all. I wonder if the .mov file is more a .mov file in name than in actual movie-ness. Based on the wording in the official announcement (words like "updated" and "downloads"), I assume that there may be a way to use the disc to access goodies they put forth later. But that's just me. rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Last post: Of Jealousy And Joe
  11. Lighten up, Francis. It was an observation, not a complaint. From a setlist perspective, it marks a new era in a way. I'm sure Jeff is happy to have enough later material to be able to do that when he wants. Just a little observation about live performances, not meant in any way as an offense to Mr. Fay. rcb
  12. Is that the first show since Being There without a single song from Being There or earlier? Not complaining (at all), but from a setlist-watching perspective, nothing pre-Summerteeth really jumps out. And ALTWSS / Shake It Off ... wow, there's some serious guitar. rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Music, politics, culture, food ...
  13. I live about 20 minutes from the MusicToday warehouse in Crozet. I got an e-mail Friday reporting it had shipped (USPS). I still have not received anything. All I ordered was the CD/DVD. From now on, I'll preorder nothing from them unless there are extra goodies involved. Does the flaming-bag-of-dog-poop trick still work? rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Music, politics, culture, food ...
  14. Yep, yep, that's it, thanks. While it's great to hear the whole evening unfold, especially at first, it's also very nice to have the music-only tracks set off from the chat. I do that sort of thing for myself now and then, but it's quite convenient to be tracked that way from the start. rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Last post: New Yorker Caption Contest - 5/14/07.
  15. Thanks, y'all! This is the second '07 living room matrix to come out, right? Can't recall the date offhand, but seems like one was on the BT site before it left us, too. (Need to go look around for a FAQ about what happened there ... it is missed, for sure.) Looking forward to enjoying this very much - rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Last post: New Yorker Caption Contest - 5/14/07.
  16. So I tried to write a conventional review for this disc. Didn't really work. I wound up primarily looking at the album through the lens of selecting the first track. Then, I also made a list of a dozen favorite moments on the disc (I do this Dozens thing, but usually with songs from artists' catalogs). Anyway, here's the page, where you can choose either the "Sky Blue Aside" part or the Dozens part, or both. Or neither. anyway, rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Last post: New Yorker Caption Contest - 5/14/07.
  17. Also note that the band is confirmed for the Austin City Limits fest (holy lineup, batman!) on Sept 14-16. No DC date, either, so I'm hoping that'll get tacked onto the end, too (if not something closer to C'ville, since they are on ATO now). rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com 2nd post down: Wilco - Sky Blue Sky.
  18. Great. Went ahead and did a fresh link in case it gets popular and the first one does expire: http://www.yousendit.com/download/WUJiK0dxU1BubVUwTVE9PQ Hadn't seen the post from Owl yet, but anyway. And by the way, a quick big thanks to Owl for their site. I just discovered it last month, have been enjoying the music and the photos. rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Music, politics, culture, food ...
  19. Sorry about that -- can't be expired yet, hopefully that'll clear up. Lemme if know if it doesn't. In the meantime, well done! ... rcb
  20. The Lonely 1 as played on Morning Becomes Eclectic, and then as torrented superquickly on Dime by Nibbler. A couple of nice comments by Tim as intro, too. Extra fruit cup, of course, for everyone who knows the one degree of separation between the coverer and the coveree. (Shake it, shake it, coveree ... nevermind.) 21. Excellent article! That is a lot of work for something that makes a lot of sense spiritually but next to no sense financially. If enough people made enough of that kind of nonsense, the world would be a much more sensible place. Thanks for sharing. rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Music, politics, culture, food ...
  22. Tweedy is easily the only member of the top 35 who is younger than 40, and generally MUCH younger than the names around him. Nice compliment. Anyway, greetings fellow serious Springsteen fan. Unless you just hate Tweedy's voice, I would proceed to YHF after Being There. It's pretty much impossible to judge Wilco on just one disc anymore (unless, like i said, his singing bugs the crap out of you) because the sound has changed so much. Much is made about the effects and the longer tracks (which are beautiful in their own way) on YHF, but I dare anybody to find another album with as much "catch
  23. Sweet, but melts away eventually, like, you know, a sno-cone. Doesn't a "cherry ghost" sound like some treat you'd buy for $0.75 off the ice-cream truck, or at the snack bar at the pool, or on the landing in the summer? In fact, it is my understanding that the working lyric spurred quite a flavor debate within the band and referred originally to a "grape goblin." Or was it "blue ghoul"? Or an orange ... oh, nevermind. rcb
  24. Like Scalzunfield, I would like also like to add Pot Kettle Black. And Not For The Season. And Pot Kettle Black. rcb http://parenthetical.blog-city.com Music, politics, culture, food ...
