Micah P. Hinson has a new record out next month. He doesn't seem to get much love but is an amazing artist. His albums have a beautiful, timeless quality to them. His new one is called 'All dressed up and smelling of strangers' and is out on the 21st September. Its a covers album and it looks a bit tasty. Can't wait to hear him have a go at 'Suzanne'. Don't know if anybody here has heard of them but there are a great U.K band called 'Archive' who had a track out titled 'F**k You' a couple of years ago. Definately worth checking the band out. They started out as a trip-hop type outfit and have kind of morphed into a progessive/electronia outfit. Their latest tune 'bullets' is awesome and is on youtube for anyone interested.

Not sure if anyone's interested but I have an anxiety disorder and periodically suffer from depression. In that frame of mind Sky Blue Sky is one of the most inspiring albums ever. Alot of the songs seem to relate to issues regarding a poor state of mind/mental health and looking for positives or a way out of the darkness. 'Please Be Patient With Me' is exactly what I tell my wife when I am struggling. Songs like 'Either Way' and 'On and On' have a similar resonance. Hi chaps. Looking on Amazon there looks like another Sparklehorse record due next month. The album is called 'In The Fishtank' by Sparklehorse + Fennesz. Anyone know anything else about this one? There's nothing on the offical website. Sounds promising. Still loving the 'Dark Night of the Soul' record.

I love 'the lamb' but I do agree we could trim it down a bit. I could live without 'The Grand Parade Of Lifeless Packaging' and some segments on side two. It wouldn't really interfere with the 'concept' as I never really understood what it was about in the first place!!. Great album though, as was Foxtrot and Selling England.

Just thinking about 'Double albums'. Most double albums I have would have made a much better single disk album. Can anyone come up with a genuinely classic double album that wouldn't benefit from a bit of editing or quality control. A great example would be the two Gun n Roses 'Use your Illusions' albums back in the day. If those two disks were condensed into one album it would be amazing. Its also a draw-back of the cd age. When artists were limited to 45 minutes of vinyl they had to be really selective. With the advent of the cd most albums became 70 minutes efforts and the quality suffered.

I agree that Abbatoir Blues/Lyre got way too much praise when it was released. It can be condensed down into a good single album (as indeed can 90% of double albums).

That is a freaky photo. I hope Joe Perry isn't aging as badly as Stephen. Anyway, I'm going to say it.....I love Aerosmith. Old And new. I love the power ballads and cheesy stuff. They seem to have lost some respect since the 80s resurection, and the early stuff is superior, but 'Permanent Vacation' and 'Pump' are great.

I went through a big Nick Cave phase a few year's back. He is very intense so I can't listen to him all the time, just in little phases. My favourite records are: 1) And No More Shall We Part; 2) Let Love In; 3) The Boatman's Call; 4) Dig, Lazerus, Dig; 5) Murder Ballads. The Grinderman record is also pretty good stuff. Nice and rockin'. Lyrically 'No More Shall We Part' is absolute genius, especially the first track 'As I Sat Sadly By Her Side'. That songs gives me goose-bumps its so powerful.

Yeah, Derserter's Song's is a real classic album. The opening track, Holes' is beautiful. I'm not overly keen the the albums that preceded Deserter's Songs. 'All Is Dream' is another top record.

I picked up the most recent Mercury Rev album, 'Snowflake Midnight', the other day and it is seriously good. It kind of passed under my radar last year. Its kind of a different style to the recent albums, very atmospheric with plenty of nice beats. Tracks like 'Dream of a youong girl as a flower' and 'Senses are on fire' are top-draw. Anyone else here loving this record? I can't believe it got so little coverage last year when it was released.

Theres too many to mention but, in my opinion, Bjork's 'All is full of love' is undoubtably the greatest. Is the video with the two robots in an embrace. It's a really moving piece of work. Other than that one of my favourites was the video for 'In The Neighbourhood' by Tom Waits. Nothing technically brilliant but I just remember it as it introduced me to the wonderfully weird world of Tom Waits.

I'm not sure what they are up to these days by Queensryche were a top band back in the day. 'Operation Mindcrime' and 'Empire' were two great albums. Prog Metal I suppose you would call it. Are they still going?

Looks like the long mooted 'Monsters of Folk' project is going to see the light of day. This is an album by M.Ward, Jim James, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis. It features new songs by all involved. There is a website up now and the album is due in September. The Prog Thread. Just wondering if there are any Progressive Rock fans out there. I lost contact with the genre recently and wondered if there were any good new bands to pick up on. I love early Genesis, Floyd and also Marillion (Pre and Post Fish). The only 'proggy' band I pick up on these days are 'The Decemberists', whose latest record I am loving a lot. Anyone heard of the U.K band called 'Cherry Ghost'? They're worth checking out. Their single 'Mathematics' was great. Lead singer is a big Wilco fan.

Toms a genius. Probably the only 'legend' I can think of who has never put out a bad record. If you compare 'Real Gone' 'Alice' 'Blood Money' and 'Mule Variations' to the recent output from Dylan and Neil young you'll see who the main man is. Personal favourites: 1) Rain Dogs; 2) Mule Variations; 3) Swordfishtrombone; 4) Heart of Saturday Night; 5) Real Gone; The Orphans set is also pretty amazing. I believe he has a new album out at the end of this year.

Looking at that anthology I'd forgotton how many great tunes the Jayhawks put out. Looking forward to hearing disk two and the bonus disc. Whats everyone's favourite jayhawks record. I'm a massive fan of 'Sound of Lies' but it doesn't seem to get as much love at 'HTH' and 'TTGG'.

Picked this album up yesterday and I must say its a bit disapointing. I have given it two or three listens and it is really doing nothing for me. After reading the review in Uncut I was (foolishly) expecting something really special. If you beleived that review this new album was as good as the 'Basement Tapes' or 'Musc From Big Pink'!!. I think that as The Felice Brothers have a silimar sound to Dylan and the band, and Uncut love Bob Dylan very much, it must follow that they would rave about this album. It doesn't have the standout songs that the previous two records had. Maybe its a grower.

Have listened to the new record a couple of times now and it's really good. There are a couple of tracks I am not warming too ('Everlasting, Everything' and 'Deeper Down') but everything else is top notch. I actually love 'Wilco - The Song'. It s a great opener. 'I'll fight' also sticks in the mind. I was a big fan of SBS but I think this is more consistant. Infact there are no songs on the new record that I really dislike (Shake it off, What Light, I'm a Wheel etc), unlike previous releases. It's all good.
