Agreed. And why wouldn't one consider it a Wilco album? It's a Wilco album.
-
It's not on her new album, but she's performed it live fairly often.

I just want to say that after being a bit combative in this thread yesterday, I listened to "Candyfloss" this morning and feel 100% better. -

Very well, then we're all in the same boat. I'm not bitter about it, though. I can play a large chunk of Wilco tunes on the guitar on my couch - I just can't come up with anything of my own that's worth the tightly coiled piles a dog leaves in the yard. So I've accepted the fact that I'm a couch rocker and am proud of it. -

And let me just add that by putting my job title in there, I was trying to say that it's impossible to compare the [what I assume to be the] challenging & exhausting but creative and gratifying "occupation" of singer/songwriter/bandleader to that of a "communications coordinator" like myself, who stares at a computer and writes copy. F*ck me running, I'd take a grueling tour, playing music, over sitting on my ass in a cubicle any day. -

I'm being grossly misunderstood here. I am not saying Wilco have it easy, and I am not saying they don't earn their keep. I agree with you and everyone else that says they work hard to make a living. I was simply clarifying for another poster that when on the road, Wilco's pay doesn't exclusively come from ticket sales. In no way was I accusing them of not working for it. And to enhance that point, I simply quoted a section of a published book to illustrate a fact about how much money the band was making at one point in their career. Friends? Friends. -
Patterson-less, eh? I wouldn't even call that a Truckers show. I'm looking forward to seeing this lineup; I saw them once when Isbell was in the band and loved it (most of my favorite DBT songs are his) and have been itching to see them again. Funny you mention the Baltimore show - just today on Facebook, my older brother posted the picture of the new album cover and made a little announcement about the album release date. A friend of his has the nerve to say that she saw the Truckers in Baltimore last year and compared them to a Damn Yankees cover band. And so the dialogue continued

My God, that's awful.

I guess I'll take that over no show...was just about to plan a road trip to Charlottesville when the Towson date popped up. At this time, I'll take a weeknight gig that's 30 minutes away over a weekend gig that's 2.5 hours away.

PRIME EXAMPLES. I don't think the clavinet appeared on any other Wilco tracks.

Well, I'm certainly not as good a songwriter, but I don't know if you can compare singer/songwriter/bandleader to "communications coordinator." -

An excellent point. When touring, Wilco doesn't just make their money from ticket sales, though. Most artists - at least those the caliber of Wilco - typically have a performance fee that comes before they even hit the stage, a deposit of some sort that's paid in advance to secure the booking. It's a "no pay, no play" concept that helps the band shape a tour, in part that is. Regardless, there was the bit in Kot's book that mentioned during the Being There era, band members were taking home between $60-$80K annually, and Tweedy was making even more from songwriting royalties. Yes, Jay Bennett used to use the wah-wah pretty heavily on older takes of "Kingpin," but on the record the driving instrument behind the funky sounds of the tune is actually a clavinet...

Wow, that's pretty sad that he was wearing a Poison shirt. You should have asked him why Bret Michaels is such a huge douchebag, how he keeps getting work, and why he has to have some sh*tty show where skanky girls compete for his "love." Didn't he get laid enough in the 80s? Anyway, meeting some of the Ramones is way cooler.

Albums with a narrative

I find this to be one of the most difficult DBT albums. It's good though. -
At first I thought this was incorrect [double albums counting as two] but this article clears things up a bit: http://idolator.com/5051293/toppling-the-wall-the-farce-of-double+counting-in-the-riaas-all+time-platinum-list

The Gimmecaps. A bunch of John Stirratt tunes recorded after the Hilltops broke up. Recorded in 1991, released in 1997. Another version of "It's Just That Simple" included. http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:h9fexqejldje

What Song Did Scott McCaughey Say WTF to...

Thanks Analogman. I did a search, but of course "Ashes DVD" and/or "Scott McCaughey" turned up an interminable series of pages... -
Here's a pretty solid review of the record from the folks over at popmatters.com: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/review/119136-spoon-transference/

Watched the Sunken Treasure DVD today for the first time in a long while, and there's a scene where Tweedy is putting together his setlist before a show. Scott McCaughey is sitting there with him, looking at the list, he points at a particular song and says something like "what the f*ck is that? do you play that?" What do y'all suppose that tune was?
