  1. I have an old Pioneer from the 1960s and it works great on vinyl old and new. None of my Wilco stuff has messed up at all, including A.M. or Summerteeth. The best sounding ones, at least in my mind, are my original pressing of Being There and YHF.
  2. That leg of the tour is "An Evening With Wilco," so no opening act. Just 2.5 hours of face-melting Wilco. http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/42851-an-evening-with-wilco/page__p__1397531__hl__Evening__fromsearch__1entry1397531
  3. I wouldn't want to hear someone's sh*tty cell phone recording anyway.
  4. I love the Who, but thought that was a pretty weak performance. Roger's vocals were dropping out before he could finish a phrase, like he was out of breath or choked up. Same goes for Pete's vocals, but his guitar playing is as perfect as ever. The drummer had a sweet mullet, though.
  5. That always happens, but I think it has something to do with the higher amount of fans who aren't freaks like many of us that are making requests. I always see "Handshake Drugs" as one of the top requests, and as much as I love that song, why waste votes on it? They're gonna play it. Same with "I'm the Man Who Loves You." Go for the rarities!
  6. Strathmore. Bethesda. March. Also just looking forward to geeking out here on VC, reading setlists and hearing about everyone else's experiences at the other shows.
  7. Yes, yes, yes! Or "Tomorrow Never Knows," turned into a stretched out, epic jam like "Spiders."
  8. I'd be curious to hear more about it...did they sing any Patterson tunes without him onstage?
  9. "Kingpin," in the old days, Tweedy and Bennett would make some noise on that during the breakdown towards the end of the song. And Bennett/Bob Egan would play harmonized leads during the intro to "I Must Be High." Dueling guitar work aside... ...I love the shredding just as much as anyone, but I'm also a big proponent of the "less is more" school of guitar playing. Tunes with good, subtle guitar work. I think "You Are My Face" is a tremendous example of Nels Cline finding a balance between technically-impressive playing and something tasteful and melodic. The very-similar in tempo an
  10. I enjoyed the bulk majority of Don't Believe the Truth. And The Masterplan, while not an official album but a B-Sides collection, is pretty solid straight-through. There are enough good tracks from that to make an album on the level of Definitely Maybe or What's the Story Morning Glory.
  11. If you can, you should listen to it on vinyl. I almost always listen to Paul Simon's self-titled debut as a companion to this record for some reason...I just love the vibe of these records.
  12. Agree on all points except for Tupelo Honey. Love this one.
  13. I don't think it's flat-out "bad" or "terrible" per se; there's a handful of tracks I enjoy, but nowhere near the level of the other discs. I fall in the "it's just ok" category with others.
  14. I am trying this as I type this message and I'm nearly crying with laughter. "Bull Black Nova" is indeed insane, and "You Never Know" sounds like an outtake from Muppet babies. I've gotta try this with all of the other albums, just for fun.
  15. I went to a Catholic high school back in the day, and in one of my theology courses, our teacher incorporated a segment on this into class one day. We spun "Stairway to Heaven" backwards and there is a part where the lyric sounds like "there was a toolshed where we suffered...my sweet Satan." Robert Plant's voice sounded really creepy.
  16. In "Not for the Season," he mentions the other three: "Springtime comes and the leaves are back on the trees again" "Summer comes and gravity undoes you" "Winter comes and the days all start late" And others: Summerteeth, "One summer, a suicide, Another autumn, a traveler's guide." "Heavy Metal Drummer," "Oh I sincerely miss those heavy metal bands I used to go see on the landing in the summer." "Hell is Chrome," there's "the air was crisp, like sunny late winter days...a springtime yawning, high in the haze." And I suppose these lyrics could count as 'references' to seas
  17. I guess I meant that I can't think of any other clavinet playing on Being There outside of "Kingpin," but then I realized that "Monday" has got a little clavinet action too. As for "Shake It Off," that could very well be a clavinet, but it sounds more like a Wurlitzer to me.
  18. I'm a guitar nerd too, although I experiment with playing Wilco tunes in different keys. Or tuning down a whole step and playing the songs in their right keys with different chord fingerings...makes for some interesting sounds.
  19. Which tunes are you specifically referring to?
