  1. Giving Summerteeth a fresh spin on some brand new noise-canceling headphones after a long spell of not listening to it...
  2. I like Nels' interviews. Lazy journalist, to some extent -- citing Wikipedia as a source for research...
  3. 40 Easter Bunnies more terrifying than a crucified man coming back from the dead http://www.happyplace.com/15235/the-creepiest-easter-bunny-photos-ever-taken/page/1
  4. I'd think not, since the Bragg/Wilco tunes are Woody Guthrie tunes. And "When the Roses Bloom Again" is an A.P. Carter tune.
  5. Streaming/previewing the new Black Rebel Motorcycle Club record. Didn't even know they had one coming out. I kind of fell off with them after Howl... http://blackrebelmotorcycleclub.com/specteratthefeast/
  6. Somehow, I missed the very first post in this thread. That clip with the dress-wearing bass playing Tweedy is GOLD. I think that's him on the background screams at the end too.
  7. Yeah. Pretty much the whole Vol. 1 is stellar.
  8. I recommend you check out two downloads available at the magnificent Owl & Bear Wilco Archive. Not all covers, but good compilations to start with before you go to too much trouble... Someone Else's Song, cover song compilation The Collected Jeff Tweedy, 1997-2003
  9. I like a lot of the non-Tweedy Golden Smog and Loose Fur tunes, so I usually listen to the band's work as a whole and not just Tweedy's material. But those types of playlists show that he has written some really great songs outside of the Wilco canon.
  10. I don't listen to music with just one headphone in.
  11. For some reason, I sometimes feel totally overwhelmed by ST on headphones -- too much happening, like I'm over-saturated in sound. Or buried in sound... Maybe I need better headphones. AGIB just sounds warm and intimate to me, more so than any other.
  12. Also in The Beatles thread. I did not care for some of the newly recorded versions, but it's a cool concept! http://viachicago.org/topic/41706-the-next-beatles-thread/page-22?do=findComment&comment=1520012
  13. +1 on Story of the Ghost. My hands-down absolute favorite record of theirs.
  14. I gave "People, Hell and Angels" multiple listens when NPR was streaming it, and thought it was great. I'm also not one of the hardcore fans who has a lot of the bootlegs and previously released stuff -- so I may not be the best judge.
  15. Agreed 100%. Surely he figured a lot of people might want to pick this up because it would be chock-full of Uncle Tupelo goodies. I'm glad I read this before I considered buying it -- because that's what I would like to have read. It's my understanding Jeff and Jay have spoken every now and then over the years, but don't really do much beyond that. It at least sounded like they were cordial, so I think it's a total chicken sh*t move for him to simply refer to Tweedy as "the bass player" in the few Uncle Tupelo mentions in the book.
  16. The Onion A/V club gives Farrar's memoir a big, fat D. http://www.avclub.com/articles/jay-farrar-falling-cars-and-junkyard-dogs,93492/
  17. I think TWL is the best-sounding of the three records made by this lineup -- closer to the sound of what drew me to Wilco records in the first place. YHF has some really nice touches and is a great headphone record, but AGIB, to my ears, is a real feast. Always finding new little sonic details. I think BT is pretty good on headphones, but I prefer the first three Wilco albums played loud through big speakers or in the car.
  18. AGIB = best-sounding Wilco record? I think so.
  19. Let's hear a review of that live Son Volt set. That's something I could get into.
