  1. I'm really excited about this one. I think he really nailed with Here We Rest. I haven't picked up the Live in Alabama record yet either...gotta make that happen.
  2. Agreed. This photo also belongs in this thread: http://viachicago.org/topic/48931-hey-thats-not-the-guitar-you-normally-play/
  3. Jeff Tweedy = not a sideman in Uncle Tupelo. Even on tunes he didn't write, he and Mike Heidorn came up with a lot of the arrangements on those first two records.
  4. Wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in for a while. It's a hike, but it's absolutely gorgeous. Saw Wilco there in 2009, and Blues Traveler a few years before that on 4th of July.
  5. I had no idea "Mystifies Me" was a Ron Wood tune. I learned something new today.
  6. I already have a review waiting to go live on my blog after the next record comes out.
  7. I'm sure he was paid a one-time fee to appear in the ad. I don't think he would get paid for each time the ad airs -- I don't believe that's how it works with actors or musicians appearing in ads.
  8. My father introduced me to The Doors. They were his favorite group, among Zeppelin, the Stones, the Who, Hendrix -- all the pillars classic rock. I was blown away by their sound -- the organ, in particular -- from the start. I remember driving with my dad listening to "Riders on the Storm," "LA Woman" and many other Doors tracks, watching him play air-keyboard and air-organ solos. To this day, I can still sing/hum/vocalize along with Manzarek's solos note-for-note and play those same solos with my hands.
  9. She's a beaut. But I have a baby too, and no prospects of paying that much money for a new axe.
  10. That's what the tune originally sounded like when it was first performed in 2001-2002.
  11. I'd never heard of Magic Alex until I read Geoff Emerick's book...what a con man indeed.
  12. No great story, but I think I'm finally "getting" this one:
  13. I guess that might have helped them sell more basses -- but why not use a bass player in the ad? Dylan is about the last person I think of when it comes to Fender basses.
  14. I've seen them play it live three times. I remember losing count after 40 at Red Rocks in 2009.
  15. Probably so. Nice find on the Tweedy photo. What tunes did he play with a Flying V? Bob Dylan with a bass?
  16. No doubt laying down some tracks for Rubber Soul. He and George both got a Strat for those sessions. Lovely Strat tones on the "Nowhere Man" solo.
  17. I love The Beatles as much as the rest of you, but I gotta say, "Julia," "Across the Universe," and "Two of Us" seem better suited for a Jeff Tweedy solo set than Wilco. "And Your Bird Can Sing," "It's All Too Much" -- those make sense to me.
  18. Another new track from the upcoming One True Vine. http://www.complex.com/music/2013/05/premiere-mavis-staples-i-like-the-things-about-me
