  1. I didn't purchase a lot of new music this year. But three albums that I enjoyed that come to mind are Heartless Bastards' Arrow, Patterson Hood's Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance, and Alabama Shakes' Boys & Girls. Honorable mentions: Jack White's Blunderbuss, The Walkmen's Heaven
  2. Who was it that said "Bon Iver" is French for "even more boring than Iron & Wine?"
  3. I wondered the same thing as well, or if it's a tricky process figuring out royalties for Ken, Max, Bob and Leroy for performing on those recordings.
  4. I would too, but with the abundance of soundboard recordings of earlier shows already available (as well as some pretty good audience recordings), I'm not getting my hopes up. Perhaps if they do, they'll release some recordings of other shows that aren't already out there.
  5. The three-night run at the Fillmore in July is nothing short of spectacular. Those were some great setlists. Too Far Apart and I Must Be High, good rockers still representing A.M., maybe a little Casino Queen too. Love the Red Eyed and Blue > I Got You > Someone Else's Song medley, the transition of How to Fight Loneliness into Hotel Arizona, the latter of which had an awesome noisy ending with some crazy-sounding, really loud synth and keyboards. And all the Mermaid Avenue material sounded great. They need to bring back Secret of the Sea!
  6. Really into that era at the moment, specifically 1999-2000. That really seemed like the last tour where Jeff and Jay were getting along and were having fun playing together.
  7. I don't know, but what really stood out to me was my different perception of the music itself based on the context in which it would be heard -- and whom would be listening. I was turned off and somewhat disgusted with the idea of this stuff being the soundtrack to a yoga session, yet when I thought of this as something I'd leave on for my infant as he/she goes to sleep, I thought it was great.
  8. Turns out there's a Wilco lullaby CD. Turns out the lullaby album contains the EXACT same music as the yoga disc. Turns out, a copy of the lullaby disc arrived in my mailbox today, courtesy of a friend and colleague as a gift for my newborn, who arrives on or around January 5.
  9. While I'd love to hear all of the shows they've posted, I simply can't justify paying so much for getting a lot of the same songs. That being said -- I have the Red Rocks show and it's tremendous. I've also listened to the 7/25/12 show in New York quite a bit via the Roadcase stream, and it's also really good. Some great rarities in that one. Can't vouch for any of the others.
  10. Been messing around on this site the last few days, digging into some 1997-1999 shows. Maybe it's my internet connection, but I often find songs stopping in the middle of a stream. Sometimes a quick double-click in the play meter to jump ahead a few seconds fixes it, other times the stream seems to freeze altogether. Just a minor issue -- otherwise, really love being able to listen to these shows. I particularly like the old Lounge Ax gigs and the Tweedy/Bennett duo stuff.
  11. Why not just do yoga to the drone? It's just as effective.
  12. Perfect for those experiencing Wilco burnout!
  13. Love that version. There's also a terrific recording of Jeff & Jay performing "I Got You" with the same feel, but the tempo is faster -- more bluegrass than country. 7-25-1999, I believe.
  14. Spoon is terrific. Girls Can Tell, Kill the Moonlight, Gimme Fiction and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga are all terrific and made for a solid run. Transference is still growing on me. I love everything Neko Case does.
  15. Remembering how much I love this stuff. It was my earliest introduction to The Beatles -- silly, playful, imaginative psychedelic songs that had me spellbound as a child.
  16. Was looking for fresh commentary...nope, just copied/pasted ads for Roadcase downloads from two other threads.
  17. Is it strange that the first thing I thought of when I read the title of his book is high above / the sea of cars / and barking dogs / in fenced-in yards
  18. I had a roommate in college who was really into them, and got me interested as well. An underappreciated band.
  19. Beautiful country. Spent my honeymoon there. If you get a chance, I highly recommend ziplining above the treetops. You get the tropical vibe, but there's a lot of lush, dense forest, plus you can see wildlife (monkeys and birds) and the ocean. Pretty much the coolest thing ever.
  20. Are you buying every single one of these? How can you afford that?
