  1. I recall hearing on a bootleg Jeff saying that "What Light" was written following the birth of John's daughter. To me, it's more about encouraging someone to persevere and stay true to themselves and their identity.
  2. I wouldn't say they're "recent" covers. The Rocket Man cover was on the 2004 rarities compilation. And the Band cover was on a compilation in 2007. To answer your question: I enjoy both.
  3. Isn't "Everlasting Light" a Black Keys song?
  4. I still maintain that my very favorite Wilco show was 10/13/2007 at CrossroadsKC -- a show that opened with Via Chicago and included four songs from A.M in what I considered to be a very well-balanced setlist. It's also one of the best live recordings out there.
  5. Count-in on "It's Just That Simple." One-two-three, two-two-three.
  6. I would agree with this statement, except that Strawberry Fields was available. Both that song and Penny Lane were the first to be recorded for the Pepper sessions, but I believe it was George Martin who made the call that the two should be released as the next single (the double A-side) rather than go on the album. What a difference it would have made.I'll always have a strong emotional connection to Pepper since it was the first record by The Beatles that I ever heard, followed shortly by the White Album -- but I do think Revolver is better than Pepper. I didn't come to appreciate Abbey Road
  7. My wife can't stand "Roll Over Beethoven." Drives her nuts for some reason. Allow me to rephrase my stance on "Within You Without You." It's like the drone in "Less Than You Think." Sometimes I think it's great and I'll listen to the whole thing, other times I skip right past it. But the length of the track is perhaps what really gets me; I dig the Indian music, maybe if a minute or two were hacked off I'd like it more. I think "Love You To" is George's best foray into Indian music.
  8. I second this. It stops the record dead in its tracks. There's no way it's better than "A Day in the Life" or "She's Leaving Home."
  9. Strange they'd leave those two tracks off. "Masterplan" is one of my favorites. Oh well...I'll probably get both -- particularly because the setlists are completely different both nights. Thanks everyone!
  10. So...those of you who have snagged one or both of the Red Rocks recordings...how are they?
  11. Nothing on Wilcoworld, but setlist.fm has one for 8-10: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/wilco/2012/slottsskogen-gothenburg-sweden-33dcc025.html
  12. I listened to TWL this past weekend. Twice. Through headphones. And it was magnificent.
  13. I'm sure this was probably posted last year when it was published, so admins, please feel free to remove this thread if an older one exists. I simply didn't want to go looking for it. At any rate, a friend sent this to me this morning and it gave me a good laugh. Explanation of each point here: http://www.thedaily.com/page/2011/10/24/102411-arts-music-xray-wilco/.
  14. I'll never forget my first Tweedy solo show -- Lincoln, 2006, Rococo Theatre. Amazing performance. He really raked some people over the coals who were running their mouths during the show. "If you wanna drink and be loud and rock out, go down the street to the rock show...don't come see the f*ckin' folk guy!"
  15. I just scored copies of those reissues....great stuff!
  16. But of course! My wife would never dip into a 401k so I could get a guitar. I'm just a little jealous...I'm just hoping to get my hands on at leat ONE of these someday.
  17. That's a nice ex! Very nice. I just spent a week with a friend's Tele -- the first I've ever played -- and that is a lovely guitar, I must say. I had a few Strats back in the day.
  18. In a strange Andy Samberg twist/connection, I got my day started laughing at this ridiculous Lonely Island music video:
